I took driver's Ed when I was 16. My parents had a car (used) picked out to buy me. I HATED driving. We lived where there was a good public transit system. So, I asked my parents to please keep buying me bus passes instead of buying/insuring a car.
My college town did not have much for public transit and I wanted to take Horseback riding for a PE credit sophomore year and could not get to the stables without a car. DH (he was my boyfriend then) taught me to drive the summer between freshman and sophomore years--I was 19. He taught me on his truck and let me take it to lessons from the dorms that fall/winter. True love at its finest

Great storyI was either 21 or 22. I was in the Army in Germany and a Sergeant told me to move a truck from one location to another. I asked him "How?". He said to just drive it like a car. I told him I had never been behind the wheel of a car or truck in my life. So I learned to drive in Germany in an Army 2.5 Ton truck with a five speed transmission.
