At what age could your kids roam the ships by themselves?

What you believe and what you KNOW are two very different things. Kids BELIEVE in Santa...just saying...and you do indeed have a right to say whatever you believe, keep in mind, if you are seeking the respect of adults on this board, ensure you are speaking from experiences and facts instead of simply acting like the stereotypical, entitled, know it all teen that you do not want to be accused of being.
Exactly. You don't have the experience of parenting so really your opinion on what a parent should or should not do is not valid. Your experience as a fellow cruiser and your knowledge from the cruises are what you should be sharing.

I'm of the same mind, especially now when I find myself often responsible for my GD on vacation. Wouldn't dream of letting a young child (definition - not old enough to babysit younger children) roam solo @ home or vacation, yes, even onsite @ WDW in resorts/cruise.

Let your kid of a certain age get off the school bus alone and you can be reported & charged with endangerment/neglect. Yet people let their guard down on vacation where they think it's safe.

A group of kids with said 'babysitting' elder child is fine as long as the older child knows they are in charge & will be held accountable by the parental units. However, we've all seen groups of kids running the halls late into the night on cruises, nobody ever thinks it's 'their kids' lol.
Dropping off from school bus and walking. Where?

I kind of had a reflection and just read it over. Im terribly wrong. Y'all have kids, I don't. I don't understand responsibilities. I would like to say sorry. I should let the parents talk parent stuff, and let a cruiser talk cruises. My apologies.

I think your problem was admitting your age LOL, you have given good advice. Some people on here are unnecessarily blunt with opinions that are not facts, ignore them as much as you can.

Found this gem of an answer on a recent post about Alaska on a budget.

Ok, Excursion are probably out the window. Is it a 5 night? I saw that you won it as a prize so I'm assuming it's a 5 night. If I were you, Palo is a must. Buy a little gift for everybody and an occasional drink for you and your husband. In the ports, just walk around. There's plenty to see, it's Alaska! Disney is great with not nickel and diming you. Pretty much everything's included. (MDR, room service, soda, shows, you name it. Disney might be the only cruise line where you don't have to have any extra money to use onboard. Good Luck! You and your family will have a blast!

@chaseg03 Are you really 13? How do you know Palo is a must? I'm starting to wonder about you... :magnify:

If I had to guess I would say because their parents went and they they were jealous, I was that way at that age

I have tried some of the deserts off of recipes I found online. Chocolate soufflé for example. Good stuff. My parents talk about it all the time. I would also like to apologize to you directly about me acting like the "third parent".

Don't worry about it. I appreciate your apology. Not so long ago, I was a teenager, too. Albeit not as mature at your age as you are because I would have never apologized to an adult for overstepping, especially to a stranger on the internet (unless my mom made me!)

You sound like a good kid with a level head on your shoulders.

It's tenderloin. Not filet mignon. But it is delicious.

Chase03, I think you are a very well spoken young man, and I think that you apologizing is a mark of a well adjusted and respectful teen.
I do hope you understand that I was speaking as a parent with a couple of teens close to your age AND not far away from your age in the case of my son. :) And that was exactly what I was saying, you are not a parent (yet) and have no experience except from what you see on your side of the fence.

I always tell my two that they should not be afraid of expressing their feelings and thoughts or even debating...but they need to have factual information and even better the experience to back those up.

It's interesting to me that everyone mentions not going into staterooms or even stateroom hallways. I was cruising as a kid in the late 90s when it was just becoming popular for families to cruise. Not going into a stateroom or the hallway never crossed my mind. I remember going into my friends' staterooms all the time, mostly because we were doing a scavenger hunt and they had something in there we needed. Of course, it makes a lot of sense. Not sure why it didn't occur to my parents to make that a rule. I did it on many many cruises and thankfully nothing happened.

Were these people you just met or people you knew prior to the cruise?
