At WDW now and need advice ASAP!

Update to all you helpful disABILITIES posters,
Today on the bus from MK we struck up a conversation with another couple who had an ECV. They raved about Randy's and how much easier WDW is with an ECV. DH seemed interested so I decided to "strike while the iron was hot." We leave on Tuesday morning so I suggested that we try an ECV for just one day to see how he likes it. We can practice on the BW and the path to Studios and EPCOT. He said okay! So I called Randy. Normally they have a 2 day minimum but they said they would drop off an ECV within the hour, let us keep it until 8:00 on Tues. morning and only charge us one day! DH seems happy to give it a go. I am happy too. I sweat like a pig all day. The humidity is really high today and that transport wheelchair isn't that easy to push up the steeper ramps (like the one to the train in MK or up to the entrance of Land. Also I am finding some attractions aren't as easy as others. I was shocked at how POTC has the wheelchairs parked by the entrance, which is quite a ways from the exit of the ride. I know all of this is old hat to most of you but it has been a whole new world for us.
So, once again, thanks to all of you for your advice. Looking forward to trying out the new wheels tonight and tomorrow.
We are a little concerned about getting caught in a thunderstorm tonight. I am bringing a poncho to cover the vehicle and we'll try to get under cover. Hope we don't have any problem...

Aren't there some companies that will rent and deliver to the resort? It seems to the Boardwalk area would be a great place to practice. Use it to go to DHS and Ep
there is a list of companies that DIS posters recommend in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
All of them deliver to your reosrt.

:thumbsup2
Hope things go well for you.

Just FYI, for POC they will want you to leave the ECV at the entrance and either walk in or take one of their wheelchairs in to boarding.
It has to do with the fact that the boarding area is in one building and the exit is in another building and down one floor from where you started out. Very difficult for the CMs to get a personal wheelchair or ECV from the boarding to the exit.

Funny how fast a person's views can change. DH loves his scooter. He now realizes how much better he likes running his own vehicle rather than relying on someone else. For the first time in years he is the one going ahead and I am trying to keep up. I have had to chastise him for going too fast in the hallways. We have always needed a room close to the elevator at BWV (LONG hallways!) Now he says we should get a room far away so he can go wheeling. We will not be trying a bus this time, maybe never after the horror stories I have read. I think that we can get a scooter that can be put in the back of an SUV or minivan (when we return in March). But it surely was easy taking the path from BWV to Studios and EPCOT. Thanks again, everyone, for your advice and encouragement.

Jean--that is wonderful news! Glad that your last day at WDW is going so smoothly with the ECV and that your next trip will be even smoother!

Thought my angels on this board might enjoy seeing the smile you put on DH's face:

My FIL had the same kind of smile the first day after he tried an ECV.:goodvibes
