At the risk of sounding like a total weirdo...

That is hilarious because I told my son the SAME thing when he was biting his nails and he stopped COLD TURKEY:rotfl:

ROFL I think we've made a discovery! Parents everywhere will thank us! haha. I told a doc about it once and he laughed and then goes "wait, no, you're right, that probably IS what caused it..huh. I'm gonna use that with patients from now on" LOL

I'm the weirdo. I'm one who rarely worries much about germs. I figure it all boosts my immune system. So far, it has worked well for me. Hand sanitizer? Not for this cookie! I wash my hands but I'm not gonna run around with wipes in my purse.

I think a lot of people get sick at DL because of the extra rich food (plus probably more food than you usually eat at home) and all the rides as well. I don't think it's necessarily from germs.

I agree i wont go anywhere without sanitizer. And yes I will never drink from a hotel cup eighter! I worked at a hotel before its discusting I cant even sleep on the sheets or take a shower without cleaning it myself.

haha yay i just bought a big pack yesterday! goooood to know thanks!!:goodvibes

Last month, I made it a point to take Targets version of wet ones, between that and washing my hands with soap, so far so good, now the heat had almost made me feel sick, but then that is mother nature. Of course I suppose so are the germs, ugh!

I knew there was a reason I preferred the wet ones to purell! Thanks for the thread!

Oh.... and I am also the type that has those super-wipes that you see at hospitals and stuff and I wipe everything down within reach on the plane, and I bring the travel sized lysol to hit the phone and remote at the hotel with (sometimes I use the super wipes on the remote... ever think about who didn't wash their hands after what in the hotel bed and then turned on the tv? )

I'm not sure because Target/Wal-mart and other "off brand" wipes have benzolKONIUM chloride and I haven't been able to find much research on that. I pay a little more for the real thing just to be safe. Of course, wiping your hands off vs. smearing them with gel is always going to be a better bet. Of course, washing your hands is THE best way (20 seconds with warm water and soap!)

I just got back from Target, and I bought the Nice'nClean small 20-count packages of antibacterial wipes. They do have benzalkonium chloride in them, and the package is small enough to carry in a purse or backpack.

For the hotel room, I get the Clorox travel size packages of disinfecting wipes, and I bring a pair of disposable gloves to clean with. I've seen the news reports where they bring a black light and you wouldn't believe how filthy those rooms are. Plus I never let my family walk barefoot on carpeting. Yeah, I know I may be obsessive, but even though the room may look clean, I can't relax until I've wiped it down.

I was just about to add this. I heard a study where a hotel TV remote has more germs than the toilet. I brought wipes and the kids knew (on our recent 12 day road trip) that no-one touches anything in the hotel room until I get done!

I'm SO glad to hear I'm not the only Disney fanatic/germaphobe:lmao:

I am so glad ( and relieved :rotfl: ) to see a group of people who think about these things too! I try not to craze my family with it, but they definitely know that nothing in a hotel is actually clean until Mom gets a go at it! I also have a very hard time thinking about using anything in a hotel without knowing I cleaned it myself, from remote's to sinks to toilets. I got in the habit of always having slippers for my kids when they were very young, because we all know a toddlers foot is just as likely to end up in his mouth as his hands are!!! Now they are used to it and wouldn't walk barefoot in a hotel.

I love bleach. My primary cleaner is bleach water, there are very few things in your house that you can't spray or wipe with bleach water to sanitize! I have even learned that if I wipe my dining table and coffee tables with a light bleach water and then polish it, it is no worse for the wear.

I guess if we spread the word and we are the ones going to DLR all the time, we'll get rid of those pesky germs and viruses eventually! :lmao:

You scrub the hotel toities yourself? wow! I hate cleaning bathrooms at home. he he! ;) no, really seriously.
Now I did make it a point next to keeping an eye out for unwanted guests of the bug type, etc. to turn down the bedspread, so as not to be sleeping with god only knows what on top of me, as it were, if not literally, actually.

Wow. I guess I am the strange one. I don't go to that much trouble to avoid germs at DLR. I'm a big believer in not using anti-bacterial products as regular soap does just fine at killing the bugs. Otherwise I think you are helping to create super-bugs.

I just wash my hands every few rides and before and after each meal. I've never gotten a stomach virus there, but I do tend to get a light cold shortly after coming back home. IMHO, rather than sanitizing yourself, it's better to consciously avoid rubbing your eyes or putting your fingers in your mouth.

I agree, it is important to wash your hands, every so often, and to try not to touch your eyes, or nose, or mouth, unless one has a Kleenex to use.
I like my Target wet ones version, they clean my hands, and the wipes have aloe vera in them as well, so my hands become moisturized and smelling good at the same time, not that there is a fragrance fairy, that is going to be stopping me in my tracks, to sniff my hands, he he! ;)

*sticks finger up nose*

You know, the other reason people get stomach bugs could have a lot to do with swimming. *shudder*

Yeah...we avoid public pools for the most part. My 2 YO had ear tubes so that just makes it even harder. But we're going to be staying at Hojo's and I KNOW the kids are going to want to play at their new waterpark. :scared: ;
