AT&T U-verse

Scripps networks are back.

Until this stupid move I had been VERY happy with U Verse. But they had until Wed to get these channels back... Comcast was returning then.

The big advantage is the much better quality of my internet connection then with Comcast.

We switched to Uverse about 6 weeks ago. We use it for internet and phone -- no TV (kept Direct TV). The change is saving us a bundle on phone/DSL service over what we were paying before. We're locked into...a 2 year contract, I think, and then we'll re-evaluate. We couldn't get the TV service we wanted from Uverse, so we kept Direct TV.

I should make it clear that Uverse phone service is VOIP. If you don't like the idea of VOIP, you won't like Uverse.

Things I like:

- upgraded internet speeds (there are different levels of service! If your speed is slow, call and check to see what you're paying for. You can always pay for better speed. They can also confirm that you're getting the speed you're paying for).

- unlimited long-distance in the continental US. I work out of my house and make a lot of phone calls. Now I don't have to use the corporate calling card.

Things I don't like:

- There's a technical issue with the phone systems (supposedly being worked) where, for "normal" numbers (not 800 numbers), I can't enter in a multi-digit number on the keypad and have all digits register on the other end. For example, I have to type in a PIN number to attend conference calls. For these conference calls, there's a regular phone number and an 800 number. I can't use the regular phone number because I can't get all the PIN digits to register. It works fine with 800 numbers -- go figure.

- The bills are ridiculously difficult to interpret.

Overall, I'm happy with the switch for now. I'm going to keep an eye on those bills, though.
