At least 3 Things ~9/29/08~

Yep, it's official- I'm "Mean Mamma" today! DD is supposed to study a chapter in her social studies book. So I took the book and quizzed her on it. She kinda knew what she was talking about, but I didn't feel she really knew it. Plus it's for a test, to which she said, we get to use our books. Uh, no, you get to re-read your chapter missy. Ok, rant over. For now.

That's was DS has - the "bark" cough. DH and I just cringe when we start to hear it, because after 13 years, we know the drill. It always starts at night, coughs through the night and the whole next day. Ocassionally it will go 2 days, but by then I have him in the docs office and we get some predisone. .

Hugs for this! My ds has a history of bad croup. Are you able to get some prednisone to keep on hand? DS's dr gave us some and told us that if he even makes that barking sound to start the pred, so it doesn't get bad. Good luck!

Yep!! Gotta love those days!!!

I saved DsS's butt today by going to school and signing some papers that should have been signed this weekend...but I made him call his mother to call me and give me verbal permission to sign and I called his dad!!! Than I took the time to nicely lecture him in the office about already having had this discussion!!!:headache:

Way to cover all the bases Nan!!! Good for you calling his mom! I don't like all this junk! Now we are on to math- poor kid, she has my lack of math sense. :scared: And DH is not around at all this week. :scared::scared:

WOW, it's been a busy day!!

I know that cough for 20 yrs  My DS20 has asthma, and 2nd grade we had a terrible teacher. She ridiculed him for coughing in class...it was terrible. Poor kid came out in tears one day and said he couldn't go back to school because the teacher hated that he was coughing....and she said that she didn't know how his friends could stand it to be near him. I just cried in the car...what can you do? :confused3

DH went in and had a meeting with the principal, and things got better after that...she was told to apologize to DS. But really, a teacher that makes kids feel bad about something they can't help? What's with dat :confused3 I was in a fit, and so ready to have it out with her! Good thing DH was able to diffuse the whole thing and get it OK for DS... I wasn't happy

Hey Nan, way to go for DsS! You are an excellent sMom... Just wanted to say that because we steps get forgotten sometimes. :teeth:

HEHE, I'm the President of that club today! DS7 is ticked at me because he has not been doing his assignments so I made him empty his desk and locker today and bring all his workbooks, notebooks, binders, and text books.
His teacher thanked me as we walked out the door.

DS7 has "the cough". I can't stand it, I can only tune it out for so long!! But yeah his teachers toss me attitude about it too. He was officially diagnosed with Allergy induced Asthma last month. We start with the cough about Oct, although he has already started and it starts to go away in April. Of course he practically stops coughing over the weekend and gets fired up again at school. And he thankfully doesn't cough at night.

I vacuum the heck out of his mattress every weekend and have limited carpet to upstairs.

He takes Nasonex and Benadryl when he has symptoms. I don't like the Nasonex though because he gets nose bleeds.

Sue, sorry your DS is having such a hard time and misses so much school, it's got to be tough on all of you. Hopefully he will grow out of most of his allergies in the next few years.

I doubt that will ever happen. I asked the pulmonologist and he said probably not. Might get a little better, but will always have to deal with it. As long as he can play sports he could really care less until he misses a couple days of school and then freaks out because he has so much to make up. I soooo can't wait til high school next year - NOT!

BTW, Nancy, good for you today. Whether your the step or real parent - way to go :thumbsup2

The secret with the Nasonex is to make sure the nozel is tilted so it sprays the outside of the inner nose. If it spays the middle, that causes the nose bleeds quicker. We take a q-tip and put neosporin on the middle inner membranes to help keep it from getting the spray on it. It takes a while to get the hang of not spreading the neosporin everywhere :sad2:

That stinks! Maybe there will better treatments in the future.

I did start the switch to more natural cleaners too, and that seems to be helping.

that is really good info ann. thanks for that!
i can't believe that we were talking about this yesterday and we have had the night from hell. up all night coughing, coughing, coughing. at one point he was getting no air at all. neb'd him, opened up the window, puffed him. the whole thing is exhausting. i really wish i could do something to stop it. i HATE to see him gasping for air. do you know what that feels like? it has to be terrible. he goes from fine to airless in like minutes. the worst last night was when he had his neb mask on and said "mommy why do i get this? it's not fair"
yup you're right. it's not fair. my little man deserves better than this. i've done everything i can to prevent it. nothing works. i swear. all the meds, all the vacuuming, all the preventive meds....i get so discouraged sometimes.

sorry for the rant. i just could not believe that we were JUST talking about it and there it was last night.

:grouphug:

Our poor little ones with the asthma!!!

:grouphug:

Holly, give that Littleman an extra  from me. I need to go to Walmart today for sticky stuff, I'm going to do the Cincy shopping today too. Maybe a box will cheer him up, because I don't have anything to make it all better.

:flower3: thanks Ann! I really wish you did have something that would make it all better. You really are the best!

Holly, that is just terrible! I am so sorry for all the little guys that have asthma. DH has it but it is gotten better since I have known him (14 years). I have been watching both the kids to see if they have inherited it, but so far so good. DD used to get croup pretty badly, in fact we thought she had asthma a couple of times. She still gets croup now even though technically she should have outgrown it. Holly, give little man extra hugs from his DIS Aunties!:hug::hug:
