We checked into AKV yesterday with our group of 12. I hate to be asking, but I am in need of the member satisfaction phone or email. I know I have seen it posted many times on this board.

The good: our room is beautiful, was clean and ready when we checked around 3pm. We are in a ded 2BR, it is a LONG hike from the lobby, but we all have cars and won't be using the buses so not a huge issue. My early birds were up at 6am this morning and have really enjoyed seeing Zebras, Giraffes, Emus, Yaks (I think?) all wandering around eating. We are on the 5th floor, I do agree with those that have said request a lower floor for a better view.

The bad: Bell Services. Awful experience yesterday. We arrived at 3:10, had BS unload the van for us and were told to call as soon as we were in the room. I was concerned b/c we had been to Publix and I didn't want the milk, beer or lunch meats to go bad before they got to the room with them. I was assured they would be refrigerated. Okay so we drove the LONG way to the Pumba section and immediately called for our things. It was 3:30 and were scheduled to go to the Grand Gathering Safari adventure at AK which started at 5:30. I was admittedly nervous about getting our things in the hour before we needed to leave, but was told it would be 20 minutes. At 4pm, I called and asked where our things were, we needed the groceries, to change clothes, my camera and other park bag. I was told it was already on the way and would be there any minute. 45 more minutes and 3 more phone calls and I was continually told this.

We left for the Safari at 4:50, NO sign of BS,I was worried about the milk, and I was DYING for a water bottle but whatever. We had already paid for the Safari and weren't going to be late.

We got to the Safari on time and I was pulled aside and told I couldn't ride (I am 28wks pregnant and thought that would be the case). So my family went on the safari and I was taken to the Tusker House to wait. I figured I would call and make sure our luggage was taken care of during that time. Several frustrating phone calls and not getting in touch with anyone helpful caused me to have a *tiny* hormonal moment. Thankfully I was with a wonderful CM who offered to make the call and figure out our luggage so I could relax and enjoy the dinner. She came back and told me she ensured that our luggage and groceries would be in our room when we got back, and the groceries would be put in the fridge. AWESOME. All I needed to hear.

WELL.....we arrived back at the room at 8:30pm, exhausted from our long drive and safari experience. I was ready to shower and put the kids to bed. Luggage was there, groceries were there too. BUT...all 4 of my king size pillows (did I mention I'm pregnant? I have to have a lot of pillows to sleep) were SOAKED. My kids sleeping bags were wet, the beer was out on the counter and had NOT been kept cold. Open the fridge and the milk was put up but they had BROKEN the gallon and it was leaking all over the place! It looked like they had been playing soccer with it and just tossed it into the fridge after. It had been what RUINED my pillows and wet the sleeping bags. I called BS, was told a MGR was not available but would call me back.

I waddled my chubby self down the half mile or so to the lobby to see him directly. I thought the belly may help me out a little ;) He was wonderful and gave us a credit that will more than cover the cost of the pillows. He told me new milk would be sent up and 4 extra pillows. That was okay, I felt like he listened and was dealing with what happened.

Got back to the room and Mousekeeping brought new milk very quickly. They didn't bring the pillows though. 3 trips and over an hour later and finally we had the extra pillows. It was 10:30 by the time we could settle in and put the kids down.

My neck is killing me this morning from the pillows, but whatever. We will head to Target to get new ones this afternoon.

We had a few other slight issues at check in as well, there was no parking pass waiting for us, and all of our reservations were in the wrong name. Not arms and legs but certainly annoying. Plus I was called the wrong name 3-4 times in all my phone calls with bell services.

To sum it up, I would like to contact the member satisfaction and just report the experience.

I know I am pregnant and *slightly* hormonal, but regardless I was not terribly impressed with our first day at Kidani. We both layed in bed on the terrible tiny pillows wishing we were at OKW :( Thoughts? Anything else I can do?

So sorry you had such a bad experience. I do not know the address but you can use the contact section on the members site.

Did the other members of your party in the other room also have issues?

We usually stay at Jambo and have always had good service. We do usually carry groceries up ourselves though.

We had a few other slight issues at check in as well.....all of our reservations were in the wrong name.

The mistake in the reservations meant a mistake in the computer and this is likely what did you in. This is the down side of relying on the computer so much. When point "A" does not connect with point "B" they don't know what to do and don't care enough to figure it out. Your luggage probably did more mileage that first day then you did... I hope the rest of the trip went well.

We stayed at Jambo House for the first time 2 yrs ago. Before we'd always stayed at OKW, so I had no experience with Bell Services. I didn't realize there was a couple hours time lag between leaving our bags, and then a different porter bringing them to the room.

Live and learn. This time, I'll haul my own stuff.

OP, that is very inexcusable about the milk and pillows.

I poked around the dvcmember.com website, and the only number i see is the 800-********. I know that's not what you're looking for, and I'll try to see if I can find another one. I hope the rest of your trip goes better!

We have arrived at Jambo and had our luggage within 10 minutes of calling from the room.

okay, the site just blanked out the phone #. Anyway, it's also on the back of your DVC member card.

I agree with this. I know it wasn't your fault but I know when stuff goes wrong it helps me to know why.

When I was at Kidani we had a small issue with our bags. My DH and I went to check in while my father gave all the bags to bell services. Well not thinking he gave his last name, which is no longer my last name and thus not the name we were booked under.

So we got up called for our bags was told about 15 min and waited. About 15 min later we got a call from a confused bell services person trying to figure out the weird name issue. Then about 15 min after that we got our bags. Now it seems I had someone that was willing enough to care and call to check that they had the right bags instead of just ignoring the problem. Unfortunately it seems that didn't happen in your case.

Confused about something, if you had the groceries in your van, why would you leave them with Bell Services, :confused3

I am so sorry to hear about the issues. I would have been frustrated as well. I'm happy that management was able to issue you a credit, and hopefully your Target trip today is successful, and you'll get the pillows you need!

I hope the rest of your vacation is relaxing and stress-free. Have fun!

I am not the OP but have done exactly what the OP did: (a) I'd rather pay a tip to someone to bring all the stuff to the room than have to haul it from the car to the elevator to the room, (b) when you get out of your car and go in to check in, you don't know whether you are going to get a room or whether you are even going to be able to get through the check in line and complete the process in less than 1/2 hour. If it is 95 outside, perishables sitting in a hot car for more than 30 minutes face destruction.

Also, for the OP, what happened to you is out of the ordinary and should be reported to member satisfaction. Typically at Kidani, upon getting our room, we have not waited longer than 15 minutes after calling for the bags and groceries to arrive at the room.

ercrbc,
I am so sorry you had such a maddening and frustrating experience.
I hope the rest is all peaches and cream.
As the concierge castmember at AKL told me, most of the time (he may have said a percantage, but not remembering it, I did not want to misquote him) things go fine and well. But when something gets messed up, it usually gets really messed up and takes a bit of doing to straighten out.

Were you able to wash the sleeping bags? Milk on them would get stinky in double time.

Take care, and let us know how it all works out.

I guess so which is why I asked, we never bring perishables with us and I would never buy them before having a room.

But then I like staying at OKW and SSR and eliminate the long walks from the car to the room.

But thanks for the different perspective. :thumbsup2

Hotel has a manger. That's who you need not the DVC Member Services. Go find him/her and complain again and LOUDLY! Explain that the "make it right" took over an hour and was not "right" and that you are not happy. Then tell them what you want (A) Compensation for the pillows and (B) something else. (I would ask for a refund of one night's points if it were me, but you might want a free meal or something Be specific, but not greedy!)

Complaining to member services just adds more complexity. you need to compain, in person, to the hotel management!

I am confused about something, if you were headed right to your room, why on earth wouldn't you just take your cold items with you so you can refrigerate them immediately? Heck, I would have just taken up my luggage with me right then and there, not really sure why you relied on bell services. Were you alone, with no help?

Thank you for letting us know of your experience so we can avoid any such issues in the future. Sorry you had to miss the safari :( Better safe than sorry.

Glad you got reimbursement for the pillows and sleeping bag.

Relax and enjoy the rest of your trip!

VERY Disappointing!
I see that BS service's has not improved since our fiasco with them in Dec/09! They lost our luggage, transfered from Jambo to Kidani on a split stay. After trying to explain to BS we would just cart our own luggage and AFTER they insisted that they wouldn't lose it they lost it, had all of our DD evening meds in for her Asthma and my meds as well. We spoke with the manager and DVC, like you were given a "credit" to any CC we wanted and fast pass's for 4. They found our Luggage at 3:30 am and delivered it, a very disgruntled BS worker kept saying it wasn't his fault I explained to him I wasn't blaiming him but was disappointed in them. When we got in the next night all kinds of sweets had been delivered to our room for us, Only Problem I'm diabetic:lmao:...
To DVC's credit they called my DW and I once a week for a month after we returned home. Try to relax and enjoy the rest of your trip:thumbsup2

I'm not the OP, but from what I read, I think she did speak to hotel management. I don't read that she is contacting member satisfaction in order to get compensation, but to simply let them know about the issue and her disappointment.

I'm so sorry your experience was so less than magical! I'm hoping the rest of your trip is much much better.:grouphug:.

We also had a bit of trouble w/ bell services at Kidani last month, as well as confusion over room #'s and names (we had a 2 bdr lock off and separate studio). When we called for our Owner's Locker they said it would be 20 min. After an hour we told them we were going out - we would call back later. When we finally did get it later in the evening, they said they had knocked on the door of the lock-off earlier. Three days later we were checking out, and I noticed our bill had park tickets charged to my DS's room (the lock-off), instead of my sister's separate studio, and the names were just all in the wrong places. The CM behind the counter called a manager over, and they admitted that the 1 bedroom and lock-off numbers seemed to be reversed in the computer. Of course they couldn't explain how my sisters tickets(which were paid) ended up on our room charges. Because we didn't have a balance to pay, they just shrugged their shoulders and sent us on our way. I'm now thinking that part of bell services issues may not be their fault :confused3
