Hey all! :wave2:

We have decided to have an at home reception upon our return from Disney. This is the problem:

We will not return home until March 17. March 24 is unavailable. Then the next weekend starts Spring break times, then we have Easter. So, it looks like our earliest option is April 14. We are getting married March 9. Is 5 weeks after the fact too long to wait for an at home reception? Is it tacky or poor manners? I want your opinions as if you were receving an invite to this reception knowing the wedding was 5 weeks before.

Also, we are sending the invites to the reception out with our announcements. Is that tacky too?

We're having our reception two weeks after we get married simply because I want to make sure we've got everything under wraps before the reception. I'd hate to come back from WDW and find twenty million things to do in just a few days' time.

I couldn't tell you what would be considered tacky or in poor taste as far as timing a at-home reception, but wouldn't it be better than not having a reception at all? :thumbsup2

I'm not a big fan of wedding etiquette. I feel like it they're snobberish rules that were written in the 1800s and some things are so outdated for society's complexities today! IMHO :goodvibes

Good luck!

I think everyone would understand. I had a friend a few years back who got married at Disney in November and didn't have her at-home reception until MARCH. That's five MONTHS after the wedding. And no one offended, as far as I know.

I don't think it's too late at all. We ended up canceling our at-home reception when my mom passed, but our wedding was October 20th and our at-home reception was scheduled for December 3rd. Same reasons - the hall was unavailable, interfered with holidays, etc.

I planned to invite everyone who would get an announcement to the at-home reception so I combined the announcement and invitation. It's been awhile but I think they read:
Because you have shared in their lives through your friendship and love
Mr. and Mrs. __ and
Mr. and Mrs. __
are proud to announce the happy news that their children,
Jennifer and Jonathan
were married in a small ceremony at Walt Disney World
on October 20, 2005
Please join us in a celebration of their marriage
on blah blah blah
at blah blah blah

And a response card was included so we had an idea of how many people to expect. We planned buffet style with open/casual seating. We would have had time to get some pictures back by then and have them displayed (we didn't do a video) and had an area set aside for kids with toys and coloring books. We were going to make a CD with our favorite songs as the hall had a built in sound system. Another big cake. I was making favors - little white boxes with 2 high-end tea bags, 2 Bischoff cookies, and 2 chocolates, with a note "Tea for Two for Us to You - thank you for celebrating our marriage with us!"

Best wishes - I'm sure it will be a great party!!

We are getting married in Disney on March 18th. Our home reception is not until May 5th.
I am sending out separate wedding announcements which will say "Come celebrate the Marriage of Daniella and Phil which took place on March 18, 2007 at Walt Disney World". I
n my first news letter to my guest we indicated we will be having a home celebration for those who could not make it to Florida. I didn't include the RSVP for the home reception because its way too early to send out, I sent my invites last week to get them back by Feb 1st.
