My husband and I checked in on Thursday. First time in a studio as we usually stay in a 2 bedroom. Surprisingly big, as compared to studios at disney world resorts. We do miss the kitchen and the washer dryer though. We are only here until Tuesday so I did not want to use the points for a 1 bed for this trip. Weather has been cool in the morning but warming up mid day, sun feels wonderful! This weekend is supposed to be high 60's may reach 70 on Sunday. :sunny:

It is sooooo quiet here this time of year. It is so cold back home we are just going to soak up as much sun and warmth until we have to head back home Tuesday. We will return the end of May for a week with the rest of the family, but we will be staying in a different resort for that trip.

We flew into savannah and rented a car, usually we drive. For anyone that wants to fly savannah is only about a 55 minute and very easy drive to the island. Probably the prettiest airport I've ever been in :flower:

We had lunch in Guiseppes the first day and One Hot Mammas last night ( always good ) today a late lunch at Frankie Bones is planned. We may try out the new Posidens restaurant in the new shelter cove mall area.

Anyhooo....

Any questions while we are here?

Dana :yay:

LUCKY YOU!:yay: Any respite from the COLD, SNOWY weather is a treat! CAN'T WAIT for our first trip to HHI in May! We will be in a 2 BR.. Excited to do some biking, walking, and just relaxing! ENJOY!:thumbsup2

I'm so glad you posted! I do have questions. I'm seriously considering trying out HHI next year in February or possibly March, depending on availability at 7 months. Having never been there, I'm trying to get a clear idea of what is available there in the off season.

Any onsite quick service dining available in the off season? (I'm assuming that the restaurants you mentioned are all offsite?)

Have you tried out the pool? Is it nicely heated for a cool time of year? Do they still run the shuttle to the Beach House during the off season?

Where is the refillable mug drink station located?

Do they do campfire activities at this time of year?

Anything else you can think of that I may want to know about being there at this time of year would be greatly appreciated. :) Most likely, I would be driving there with another adult and looking to stay about a week, probably in a 1BR.

If you go to Posidens I would love to know what you think. It is on our list for our April trip.

They have a quick service at the resort called tide me over which is open 8-11 for breakfast and 11-5 for lunch
Signals at the beach house happens to be closed for renovations while we are here, but they have a quick service there as well. We received a letter about a month ago saying that tide me over would be closed, but I guess the finished sooner than expected and moved on to signals.

Have not tried the pool or hot tub, I am told it is heated to 82. Kids are in it. Unfortunately we would use the hot tub but it would be a long cold walk back to our room once we are out and husband says NO WAY...

Refillable drink station is at tide me over.

They have the campfire but not every night this week it's sun, wed, fri

I am not sure where the 1 bedrooms are located but if I was going to frequent the pool I would ask to be closer.
Unless you don't mind a cold walk when wet. If we had bikes though we could ride to the pool which would be faster.

They put out fresh baked cookies and hot apple sider in the lobby at 3pm we had some and played a few games of pool one day!

Mostly just sleep in, have some breakfast, coffee in the room and get outside when it warms up. If you are driving bring some beach chairs and just sit in the beach. We brought towels from the room but not quite as comfortable.
It's great watching all the dogs run and play on the beach.

Today we are renting bikes for the day and riding on the beach. First brunch at stacks pancake house!

Emilymad, we may not try Posidens this trip looked online and it is mostly seafood ( which I expected given the name) which I don't eat. I usually can find chicken or beef, but I think we may wait until May because the rest of the family loves seafood. We did drive by and it looks fun. Kinda like a club upstairs and dining and bar with outside tvs downstairs. April should be beautiful!

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the reply. That helps a lot! Enjoy the rest of your stay. It sounds wonderfully relaxing. :sunny:

A few questions, and a comment. First, I'm so glad you're enjoying our favorite resort. Are you in the main lodge or in one of the 5 buildings that have studios? Also, since the renovations, I wonder what's on the balconies of studios. They used to have these tiny round tables-

Have you had any of the cranberry nut cookies and warm apple cider from outside Big Murgie's Den? If I remember, they put it out between 1:00-3:00 every afternoon. And would you please do us a favor-go to the Mercantile and say Hello to Gordon for us, and we'll see him at Thanksgiving again. If you need any recommendations on places to eat, he's the one to see!

:goodvibesI am glad you are enjoying yourselves and I wanted to comment that I agree on the beauty of the Savannah airport!

We are in the building adjacent to the main building 1223
They have 2 rocking chairs and the larger round table with the four benches same as the other balconies.
Love the cookies and cider they put them out at 3pm each day. Husband has beaten me at pool many times!

Thanks for doing this. We will be arriving on March 14 and have lots of questions!

I was going to ask what the hours are like at Signals at this time of year, and whether they have a refillable mug station there, but I see you mentioned they are closed right now. Do you know what their expected completion date is?

We're also wondering about activities at this time of year - is everything offered or are some activities seasonal? As far as wildlife goes, can you see Dolphins and blue crabs at this time of year, or are those more common during the warmer months? We'd like to take DS out on a shark fishing trip and are wondering if that would be offered, too.

I hope you picked up a serge group pass port to savings booklet. One hot mamas, Frankie bones, boat house and others are buy one get one this time of year. Until February 28th excluding vday.

I am local if you want any tips to anything specific.

A lot of activities are offered each day. Have not seen any Dolphins or crabs mostly birds, not sure if they are around more in warmer weather. I also have not seen any boats going out so not sure about fishing trips, sorry.

I was not aware of the serg passport savings ( I have used my Dvc card for discounts ) where would I find this?

You can get the SERG discount at any of the restaurants that are part of that group. Most are buy-one-get-one discounts. Giuseppi's, Poseidon, One Hot Mama's, The Lodge, Frankie Bones, Wise Guys, Skull Creek Boathouse, Marley's and Black Marlin - just ask before you order and your server will take care of you.

Here is some menu information for these restaurants - https://flipflashpages.uniflip.com/2/18214/329215/pub/html5.html

Enjoy! :)
