After 6 years at Royal Pacific, I can't say I'm overly impressed. The room is supposed to be bigger but seems smaller. The bathroom is incredibly tiny. The room needs to be refurbed bad. To think I could have saved $700 staying at the other two resorts is frustrating. The room decor is very boring. The air conditioning does not work well. Housekeeping has been less than stellar. I just cannot say I would want to stay here again.

Sorry about that. Using speak to type on phone. I will post some pictures of the room when I get home. Parks have been crowded. And I could be crazy but I swear Universal has gotten more expensive than Disney.

if the ac is not working properly and if housekeeping is not up to standards, call and talk to a manager.
don't be shy.

use the star service button in your hotel room or contact the manager at the front desk in person or by phone.
there is a manager on duty 24/7.

can't help you with the decor.

i book the king suite and what is in that room looks perfect.

i stay at the motherland and the darkside resorts.
you can find things unsatisfactory at any of the hotels.

for hotels and food, i have found the darkside with better value and prices on what i purchase.

Hmmm.....not sure if they put you in a broom closet, but I've stayed at both places and the room and bathroom are bigger at HRH. I did prefer the atmosphere/service at RPR though.

I had the opposite experience. After multiple stays at hrh, I tried rpr and regretted it! Different strokes for different folks. I say try each one and stick with what you like. For us, it's hrh or nothing.

We didn't like HRH either, OP. We stayed there in January, and our room was not very clean and our bathroom was so small that you had to go all the way in past the toilet and reach back to close the door - the door barely cleared the toilet. We were in a pool view room.

We like RPH fine, and we love PBH. Our room and especially our bathroom at PBH were noticeably larger than the HRH room. We have stayed several times at PBH, and each room has been much nicer than the HRH room we had. It has been a few years since we were at RPH, but I remember the room being well laid out but not large. HRH was just not well-designed and the space is not well utilized.

stayed at hard rock and agree although we had a suite the bathroom was small but also old and tired with mould on the tiles, curtain torn, shower head leaking and held together with tape
housekeeping was not great
lounge curtains and carpets worn and torn, tables not cleared of glasses regularly, servers rarely seen in lounge, slow at beach bar
disappointed as supposed to be 4+ star, that was 2 summers ago so I guess much worse now if not refurbed as I heard they were supposed to be doing

Please talk to the manager if things are not up to par.

The 2 biggest complaints are the layout of the bathroom and the shape it is in. As others have said, mold on the tiles and floor, loose fixtures, and the nasty toilet. Never experienced any of that at the Royal Pacific.

I know the room is bigger but it's laid out poorly and in such a way that it appears smaller. The bigger issue to me is the poor condition of the room. It is not reflective of a $300 per night hotel.

Make sure you let them know...before you leave.

We were at Hard Rock Hotel, from July 3-5. I was not impressed at all. For the 2 nights, 3 day park tickets for 6 of us, (1 adult, 3 juniors, 2 kids) was $2,200. We spent 9 nights, 8 days in Disney with Free Dining, Hopper passes and 7 of us, 2 adults, 3 juniors and 2 kids, for a little over double. No charge to park the car.

I found that Universal really forces you to stay onsite in order to get the full express pass benefits. Which, by the way, we absolutely loved, loved, loved. However, no free wifi, no free parking. Hated the passes, a key for the door, a paper pass to get into the parks, a paper pass for Express pass. Times 6, that is 12 passes, not to mention another 6 for city walk bars. Then the room keys.

Our rooms were ready at 8am when we arrived. I got 2 rooms, connecting, since it was just me and my 5 kids. The key card for room 2 did not work, so the kids headed down to desk, and received new ones, they still did not work. We stopped by the desk on the way to the park. They said that the key scanner needed a battery, so we left for the parks. Returned at 3, still the key to the room did not work. I called down, they apologized, said they would get someone up asap. 45 minutes later, no one. 6 of us sitting in the room. Then concierge called asking how our stay was going, which was nice, but had to inform them, it was going ok, but still had no access to room 2. Again, apologized, said they would call again asap. 20 minutes later, they arrived. It took them 45 minutes to change it out, they had to remove the entire thing and replace the whole thing. I get these things happen, but really at $320 a night, times 2 rooms, and no access to one of them. Very disappointing. and yes, I called and let the front desk know.

I was glad we went, as it had been about 18 yrs since I went to Universal and 12 yrs since we had been to Islands of Adventure. But, will we be going again anytime soon, no. Not impressed at all.

It did make us realize we like the moderate resorts of Disney with the outside doors, and not the interior doors. We all felt very cramped in the halls with all the cleaning carts, the people, etc. Our room, and then eventually rooms, were just fine, clean, neat, decor was eh. The staff was nice. The lobby was neat to look out, but very loud in music. No real place to pick up snack foods, or something like a counter service meal at the hotel. One little "store" type place for chips and drinks, but not a lot of choices for food.

Sounds like a good deal on the Disney stay. The longer you stay at either Uni or Disney, the cheaper each day becomes. It's hard for me to put a price on the Express Passes. Their value to me is very high.

I would have been awfully upset if that happened to me as well. I hope they compensated you somehow for your troubles. The new Universal hotel that is being built right now, Cabana Bay, will have a food court, more in the style of the Disney mods and values.

The Hard Rock Hotel actually has two little store type places. There is Emack and Bolios with Starbucks as you exit out to the pool area. It has convenience things for breakfast and snacks during the day and also there is the Hard Rock store on the main level which has Hard Rock stuff as well as sundries and snacks.

A thing to remember about all the separate tickets, etc. is that unlike Disney, Universal doesn't run its hotels. So, you won't get all your tickets and keys combined.

It might have been cheaper for you to book a Portofino Suite at Portofino Bay Hotel. It would accommodate all of you and the quietness and roominess of the hotel may have been more to your satifaction.

I'm assuming that your time spent at WDW with free dining was not the beginning of July. You really need to compare prices for trips taken at the same time. A vacation in off peak times at Universal Orlando is going to be cheaper than a vacation the beginning of July. We've got a trip in September with a rate of $134/night at the Royal Pacific.

No compensation. But I did not pursue it, I figured if they wanted to they could have. I was surprised the hotel did not call back to make sure we were all set.

I knew going in July would be more expensive, but still frustrating about the room. I think that since staying on property to get the Express Pass benefit, they should be attached to their hotel keys, to me that is a no brainer, would be so easy to flash that and scan it. Just my personal opinion.

I did find both "stores" but still the amount of items there were very little. Sure lots of chips, little drink choices, a few breakfast items, and 1 kind of grinder.

I could not imagine doing Universal when we choose to go, without staying onsite. I booked very late, as I had just decided to do it, drive down with the 5 boys, make a trip of it, and then headed to gulf coast to see relatives. I guess I expected a bit more for the price. I am surprised they charge $18 a night to park and no free wifi, and no cafe type food area. The Beach Club waiter we had, was horrible to boot! The waiter at The Kitchen was very good. However, with 5 boys, it is much easier to get counter service type meals, much faster.

I did get a survey to fill out, which we did. Got an apology from the Manager. So, I am not looking for compensation or anything. It just proved to not be for us. Glad we did it, but won't do it again.

FWIW, we had VERY similar issues on our february trip....at Animal Kingdom Kidani. And at SSR. SSR compensated us because it took DH two stinkin' hours, while the rest of the family played in the sun at the pool, to get things fixed (for the second time) which was only needed because they needed to put charging on the room to compensate us for a different issues. (massive amounts of mold or mildew in the entire 2 bedroom villa, made me extremely ill for the time we were in the room)

When we had to trek the long halls of Kidani three, no four, times in a row to get into our room, with DH having an achilles injury, because they couldn't get their keycards to open the doors, we got nothin'. Not even an apology. Not even from the guy that checked us in, who promised there would be absolutely NO problems with our stay (after I chatted with him about our un-fun stay at Jambo during our first trip and how skittish I was about booking Kidani but did it for my son). Why? Because even though he told us he would be there the rest of the day, he disappeared between our checkin and when we got back to the front desk, and we never saw him again.

I hope you joined the Loews YouFirst program? Even though the wording is confusing and they say HRH doesn't participate, we got "points" or stays or whatever for our HRH stay. If you did and if the stay counted, then on your next trip inside the year you would have gotten free internet.

The Express passes USED TO BE on the room keys..and people took advantage and cheated the system by giving others their key( booking a single room and sharing it among several people) or selling them..So Universal made the express pass separate ,everyone must have one and it now has your picture and dates on it clearly..I understnad what you are saying though..We have our room key, club lounge key, park ticket and express pass to carry ..It is alot...As for charging for Wifi and parking, DISNEY DOES charge you, they also charge for Magical Express ,they just build it in to the resort rates and charge everyone whether they use it or not and call it a "perk' of staying onsite. If you travel to other cities around the US ( Like DC,Boston, Philly ,NYC and even Orlando). Most hotels charge for parking ala carte , I think $18 is pretty reasonable -( I was charged $40 per night recently in DC-for the luxury of parking in a parking deck several blocks away from the actual hotel.).You only get chrged if you bring a car.

I realize Disney charges you for those "Perks". But again, at $320 per room, per night times 2 rooms, I just expected more I guess. I have been disney several times. Last time, with Free dining, during value season (end of August), had 2 rooms and had 7 of us instead of 6 (2 adults with same 5 kids) , stayed 9 nights and 10 days, 8 day hopper passes, and paid just over double for what I paid at Universal for 2 nights and 3 park days (not park to park tickets). Yes, well aware of the timeframe I went, more expensive for room. But regardless, I just think I expected a little more, not compensation, but maybe a follow up phone call just making sure we were all good. As for wifi, yes, I expect that to be free in this day and age. Parking, well whatever. I often visit Boston and NY and know of parking rates, DC as well. Just annoyed at that. Again, live and learn. We did it, but now we know what we really truly like and at what cost we are willing to pay, etc.
