At DLR right now but ...

I hope you got some sleep mama. How are they this AM? :grouphug:

I am so sorry to keep going on about this, it's like the grossest post ever :) but ... was just sitting here looking at DS9 sleeping soundly, had been nearly 3 hours since he'd first thrown up so thought that's a good sign, was just about to turn off the computer and curl up in the chair ... when he woke up and projectile vomited everywhere. All over the nightstand, telephone, wall, pillow, mattress cover (sheets got done with hours ago), blanket and floor.

    WHY IS THIS HAPPENING???

DS7 had finally fallen asleep after his day-long ordeal and now I've had to wake him so I could strip the bed, yet again. I'm trying to do all this alone since DH is downstairs tending to his kids. Why is everything so *******ed white in this hotel. :)

I just don't know what to do. Other than laugh I suppose. I'm trying. I've been through every towel and sheet in the place, that is to say the replacement lot they brought me at lunchtime since we'd gone through the previous set with my other son this morning. It's so embarrassing. I just don't want to face housekeeping yet again. I don't know what I'm going to do if he throws up on the bed again, we're down to the last thing covering the mattress and only two pillows. If I was home I'd just be throwing everything in the washing machine, no big drama. How much more? Seriously.

You guys are going to need a vacation after all this!

Do the kids have fevers at all? It sounds more like some kind of stomach thing rather than the flu. Like it was something they ate or drank? Or possibly a norovirus? (You'll need lots of Lysol spray and anti-bacterial hand gel to combat that one!) Are you all drinking bottled water?

I'm hoping that because you haven't posted since midnight, that maybe things have finally settled down for all of you and you're getting some much needed rest!:)

Yes everyone had fevers, not sure how high because I didn't have a thermometer to hand. Not seriously high, just elevated. Yes we're all drinking bottled water (and not sharing now although we were before). Thank goodness for the Residence Inn's complimentary grocery shopping service!

No I stopped posting because I figured nobody wanted to hear anymore about it LOL I mean why would you really :) Anyway, here it is morning and things are looking a little brighter. DS7 and DD8 (first ones ill) are now jumping around like usual. DS9 who got sick last night had it a bit better than DS7 and seems better this morning already. DH got sick in the night so he's out for the count. That leaves me and DS10. Waiting, waiting ...

So no parks for us again today :(

Talked to DH about it this morning, and he agreed to the possibility of us staying here an extra week and nixing the whole San Fran portion of our trip! Right now I'm checking out what's refundable and what can be cancelled, whether we can stay here or not (thank goodness it's a reasonably slow week next week although prices are higher). Neither of us could face the prospect of all the driving we had ahead of us, and I'm just so not ready to leave Disney yet. I know that this will be the last trip with the kids for a long while and I don't want it to end this way. So that's all quite good, eh?

Yes I actually managed to grab an hour or two of sleep last night!! Which is good because I'd been up since 3am yesterday and 36+ hrs without sleep wasn't going to help anything :)

So hoping that we can still do the 10th birthday stuff tomorrow, even if a scaled down version. Fingers crossed.

Is it possible for maybe you and the kids go to Disney while Hubby recovers? Maybe getting out of your room might help lift some spirits! Even if you take it easy while you are there. Or even just go for a little while and then go back and rest.
By the way....keep posting. We do want to hear how you are doing. I am working right now and I stopped just to come on here and check on how you were doing. So please don't feel like we don't want to hear it!!!

Aww, that's so nice! Thank you so much.

Well most of the kids are doing fine this morning, but DS9 who was sick last night is pretty weak. Plus I'm kinda thinking that surely the other non-sick one is going to come down with it today? :confused3 I was thinking of heading over for a half-day this afternoon, but since we've now decided to stay the extra week I think I'll save the hopper day for then instead. So I think I might get the kids out of the room for a bit, sit round the pool or something while housekeeping do their thang, see how that goes. If everyone's still okay might pop over to downtown disney and see Enchanted (they've been hanging out for that one).

So I checked it all out and I can cancel everything except our yurt in Big Sur (was really looking forward to that one too, bummer). But it's worth it to stay I think. I'm going to go do a sob story on the hotel front desk and see if they'll give me a good rate to stay for another week :)

I agree...please don't stop posting! I am also watching your story with the great hope that you will all be better VERY soon

Sending GET WELL vibes, and lots of prayers :goodvibes: and keep us posted, OK??

I'm sending get well vibes to your family as well. I hope you are alll feeling great very very soon.

I'm sure there is a scientific name for it but our kids got it when they were younger, it usually arrives 2 to 3 days after a long plane trip to a foreign country. Its a combination of the plane trip and different foods on young stomachs. Usually lasts no more than two days. Treatment is hydrating fluids and distilled water (you can buy it by the gallon over there) then work up to well washed fresh fruit and bananas (when they stop throwing up after water). They should be aclimatized after that and you will have no more problems but try to stay with similar foods to what you eat in Australia. The US diet tends to have a lot of carbs compared to the kiwi and Aussie diets. Our first trip we lived on MacDonalds salads....

Your experience is very similar to ours on our first two overseas trips with DD who was 4 at the time, she seemed to have absolutely no warning or control and at first we thought it was a bug or food poisoning. Prevention is key and we didn't have any problems with our son.

1. Plenty of fluids on the plane (more than you think you need) bring bottled water from home onto the plane
2. Distilled water for the first few days (ideal but bottled water ok)
3. Stick to foods you would normally eat at home for the first three or four days (We actually brought food from home if it was allowed)
4. Steer clear of local dairy for the first three days
5. Try and avoid sugary drinks and foods

The idea is to aclimatize the kids to the new time zone and local foods gradually

Hate to say it...but I think there are some stomach and flu bugs going around Disneyland. We just got back yesterday and my little was sick throwing up this afternoon. Husband was sick in bed with chills his last night at GCH. And grandpa is home sick with stomach issues, too. So sorry that you're in a hotel room while you're going through this...

But we did have a wonderful time at Disneyland...great experience at GCH, little/no lines on rides, beautiful holiday decorations. I'll write a trip report soon.

Hope you and your family feel better SOON. :wizard:

I can see the person at the front desk:
"Can you vomit all over our rooms for another week? Yes, yes, please do!" :lmao:

Just kidding, of course. I'm sending you good vibes and pixie dust that everything turns out perfectly from here on in! :goodvibes :wizard:

I know we're far away, but our community has some nasty noro virus going around too...ugghhhh. It seems to be more common each year now. I pray we don't get it.

As for you, my barfy friends...how are you now???

Linda

Hello everyone! Barfy Friends here :lmao:

And Ransom that crack about the hotel front desk sooooo made me laugh :rotfl2: The guy was so nice and helpful but you should've seen his face as I tried to explain what was going on without being too detailed. Trying to maintain that professional composure while at the same time thinking "OMG I am never having children" :rotfl:

Anyhoo ... things have taken a decided upturn. Yay! DS9 was very weak but by lunchtime was doing much better. Decided to vacate the room and go sit by the pool, which was a great idea. He fell asleep in the loungechair but the rest of them went for a swim and it perked everyone up considerably just to be outdoors and away from the horror (oh the horror!). Went and saw the front desk and asked if we could extend for a week and luckily we could keep this same room (although I sooooo wanted a different one :) ) and he did it for the same rate I'd booked this week for, even though their current internet rate for next week was much more. So that was cool.

Hung out by the pool, met some lovely Canadians, managed to eat some lunch and realised that it was the first thing I'd eaten since dinner on Tues. Oops. Did a load or two or three of laundry, which is right next to the pool so that was mega-handy. Came back to .. is it really? ... yes! a clean room! Dishwasher was going, everything smelled fresh, clean clothes, clean beds. It was like it had never happened. :wizard:

Oh and when the guy at the front desk heard it was DS9's birthday tomorrow, he organised a cake for him. How nice was that?

So we cancelled the entire middle leg of our trip (Pismo Beach, Big Sur, Half Moon Bay, Santa Clarita) to stay here an extra 8 nights. I'm really pleased because it means we'll have more time to take it slow and do a few more things in the area without killing ourselves time-wise.

I'm a little sad that it's my son's birthday tomorrow and I don't have a gift for him. I'd planned to pick him up something from the parks today but of course we didn't go. Never mind. I'm thinking I'll pick him up a Disney Gift Card tomorrow after we do Discover the Magic and let him go shopping. He'd like that I think. I'm also thinking I'll bail Goofy's Kitchen for dinner and stay in the parks instead, do the Happiest Birthday on Earth thing instead perhaps. When they were on Astro Orbiter the other day they heard the song and thought it was great. I hope he's well enough to go. He's resting now so should be fine by morning fingers crossed. Oh and my DH's son hasn't succumbed so hoping that means he won't.

Yes, chills and stomach bug, that's exactly what we had. I bet it's the same thing going around.

Anyway everyone, thank you so so much for listening and giving me so much support. I really don't think I would've made it through last night without all your kind words and smileys :) I'm determined to salvage the rest of this trip and make the most of it. Sure it's not the one I planned but since when is life ever like that! ;)

you have a great attitude about the thing. . . how are they all feeling this evening?? HOPEFULLY the birthday magic will happen and tomorrow EVERYONE will be as good as new!!!! be careful with the cake though. . . might be too much too soon!

Hugs to you! Way to be a trooper!!!

I'm so glad and relieved for you that things are looking a little better. And thank goodness you extended your time there so you all can enjoy the area a bit more.

Tell your son that everyone on the DisBoards sends him a great BIG

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

:bday: party:

I just now saw your post and am sooo happy that you are staying another week and everyone is starting to feel better. That is really tough on vacatoin but I hope this next week makes up for it!

I am so glad everyone is feeling a better... take it slow the next couple days still..... but enjoy you time at Disneyland... it is a great time of the year to be there... sorry to hear you had to cancel part of the trip but with the ages of your kids I think they will enjoy staying in Anaheim more than Big Sur... if you like I can send so photos so they can 'see' what they missed...What did you plan to do in Santa Clarita?

Have a great day tomorrow at the parks and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your son!
We may be at the parks on Sunday... maybe we will run into you!

Yay!! :cheer2:

I'm so glad everyone is healthy and you are able to stay another 8 nights. And how wonderful that the hotel is offering the lower rate!

I hope the rest of your trip is so fun and exciting you don't get back on here until you're back home. :goodvibes
