More rambling here...look for my trip reports for a more coherent review of everything going on at WDW right around now....I'll have them up real soon as I've already started on them.
First, in regards to POP....The king room may be the way to go next time as the standard room was a bit lousey in my opinion. The idiots that checked into the room next to me were smoking...I could smell it BIG TIME in my room and ended up screaming at the guy like a child. There are large NO SMOKING signs on the doors and this guy was being completely inconsiderate and was acting all dumb when I asked him, politely, to go outside or stop.
Overall, I think those POP rooms have cardboard walls or something...I could hear every room around me clearly and to smell someone's cigarette from the room next door is a little weird...I think they could have designed those places a little better...or maybe the people that check in could get some class and have some consideration for the other guests around them.
Anyways, I just got back to the real world. Today - Friday - marked the beginning of the nightmarish Summer crowds especially at the MK. I left for MK from my room at 11 AM...now I normally avoid the MK on a Friday like the plague given that it is an EMH morning ANNNND it was the official start to the Summer season...however, It's just a huge tradition for me to say goodbye to WDW by spending a couple of hours at the MK before making my way to the airport.
I had a stack of FP's that I collected throughout the week so I didn't stand in any lines...BUUUT, the crowds were INSANE people!!!! They were almost double of what I witnessed in the last week of April with the NE spring breakers and it was super HOT and humid out. WOW...it was wall to wall with people. Simply walking down some of the walkways was a bump and nudge challenge.
Most rides had a 50 minute or greater wait and it was very difficult to find seating at the food courts....it took me 20 minutes just to get lunch....that was the longest line I waited in all week...for a burger = )
The haunted mansion even had a 40 min wait and the line was creeping into Liberty Square. The FP machines for HM have been offline for over a month...dunno what's up with that.
Anyways, I still enjoyed my 4 hour day at the MK before leaving despite the horrific hordes of people...I rode every ride I really wanted to and got to wave goodbye to Main Street on my way out. I also got to ride Peter Pan and saw the refurb results as it just re-opened today. They added a tinkerbell show element (pretty sure it was never there before) which is really cool and everything looks to be cleaned up.
Going to the MK today only proved that my plan of attack with WDW can stand up to any crowd, no matter how bad it is. I am convinced I can goto those parks on just about ANY DAY of the year, including holidays, not wait more than 10 minutes for anything, and walk onto most attractions. Going SOLO has a lot to do with efficiency here though. I think you would have a near impossible time dragging someone else or a family around with you in those crowd levels...just not gonna happen easily. I was hopping over people and strollers all day long. WHEEE!!! All I can say is...WOW WOW WOW...I'm glad I am home and not still there dealing with that. See you in the Fall WDW!!!
More later...
