At BWV now - Richyams is in my head!

Pack a lunch for the walk down the hallway at BWV. And drop bread crumbs to find your way back later on.

Good thing we're flying Southwest this trip. That way I can avoid the extra bag fee for my picnic basket.

You guys are scaring me with the hallway comments. We've got our first stay coming up in Oct. (2 bedroom). I'd heard they were long but how long of a walk are we talking about here? I've been fairly far down at AKV a few times but I'm guessing this is worse? I don't mind a little walk but we do have our three year old and a friend with a bum hip. I guess I should add a request to be near the elevator. And all of you OKW fans must either have a vehicle with you or stay in the HH area b/c, boy, did we have some long (OUTSIDE) walks to grab a snack. Not to mention lugging a sleeping toddler in his stroller up to the second floor - ouch. Beautiful resort though.

Seriously, though, it just seems like a very long hike. Not as long as walking to Epcot from BWV, but in the confines of the narrow corridor, it just seems like it takes forever. When you are walking outside and can see lots of stuff going on, it doesn't seem as long.

It is not as bad as comments may make it seem. Walk normal pace from elevator to furthest away rooms is about 90 to 110 seconds (I have actually timed it). AKV Jambo lobby to end rooms is longer (closer to 3 minutes); AKV Kidani lobby to end rooms of north wing is close to 5 minutes. In other words, if you have had a long walk at AKV, you aren't even going to think it is long.

let's put it this way: my parents are in their 80's, mom has had a double knee replacement, dad's knees are horrible and he can barely stand at times.
they have never felt the hallways were long, and only want to stay at the BWVs (despite staying at almost all the other DVCs and deluxes).

i've been there with a broken toe, and a mass on a bone inside my foot - the walk felt no longer, and frequently shorter, than the walks to/from our other resort rooms to our destination.
the walks to the BWV rooms and the parking lot are frequently exaggerated (sometimes in fun, othertimes simply b/c there is nothing bad to say about the best resort on property:cloud9:)

:)

While I do agree about the long hallways at BWV (my DH and two DS's call it
"the Hallwalk"), I do also have to say those rooms at the end of that hall near Jellyrolls are some of my very favorite rooms at any DVC resort. I just absolutely love a higher floor at that end facing the canal......those views are gorgeous IMO. I love to sit on the balcony in the early morning and just watch the boats on their way to and from HS. My 8 year old grandson also agrees with me........he just loves the 5th floor view of ToT at night......since his first stay there at 3 years old. Our home resorts are VWL......which we also love.....and SSR, however, for me anyway, it's a tie between BWV and VWL as to which is my favorite.......so I guess you could say I don't mind that long walk at all. So, for all of you folks who don't like the walk.........that's just fine by me! Now.....will someone please cancel a BWV studio from 10/20 to 10/24 so I can stay at my favorite place during the F & W Festival!!!

My now 78 yo Dad, had knee replacement surgery about 10 and 9 years ago. When he saw the hallways - he said - I can do my 3 mile walks all inside in the air conditioning. He was thrilled. I remember asking him if he wanted a wheelchair, while in the parks. He told me the only time I was going to push him - was if I was a Pallbearer and was pushing his casket down the aisle of the church. He has a sense of humor, that's for sure. He needed it when I was a teenager!!!!

We also look at being at the end of the corrider - as being a shorter walk to HS.

Now that I'm home, I'll share my room number. Didn't need any BWV lovers trying to take me out while I was still there! ;) We were in 3014. Just down the hall was the turn to the Attic and stairs that made it a quick walk to the boats at the Swan/Dolphin or breakfast at Fresh. We had a tree off our balcony, so I didn't have a canal view, unfortunately. The room was very nice, no issues with anything missing, burned out or stained. I was happy to be at Disney, and happy to be in the Epcot resort area.

My little gripes, and they are little, are 1) no text/call when my room was ready, which is an issue that has been reported here in conjunction with BW, 2) no bill/statement of charges under/on my door on checkout morning, and the promised runner never brought another copy and 3) that long walk from parking pushed us to use bell services to handle our luggage. Oh, and housekeeping knocking on my door at 8:30 in the morning to get us out of there so they can clean. I've always been one to call housekeeping as we walk out the door so they know it's empty. I have never appreciated the phone calls with no one there (experienced that several times) or the early morning knocks on my door.

Frankly, I'd much rather walk outdoors at OKW than in a dark hallway at BWV. The AKV halls are long too, but at least you have occational windows that look out onto the savannas to make it worthwhile.

As for needing a car or HH booking to enjoy OKW... Not true. All buses take you to HH, and frankly, we find very few reasons to have to go there too often anyway.

It is not worse than AKV or BLT. We gripe because each and every time we go to a valet resort we end up at the edge of the universe. The last time I told my wife we should hang out close to the main elevator and see if anyone ever comes out of those door of the rooms with little walking or if they are just there for decoration.

It is not the end of the world (although you sometimes feel like you have walked far enough for it to be) it would just be nice to get lucky every once in awhile.

His comment about being able to grab a beer from the fridge while sitting on the balcony is my favorite.
Mine too. It still cracks me up. :lmao: Richyams did love to needle all of us BWV fans. He was quite a character, and I miss him around here.
