At AKV, why choose standard over value studio?

I'm a little confused. I know standards are slightly bigger (by how much, not sure), but you don't get to request a savannah view with standard. So where is the draw and why are they more points? I would think value is better, at least you can hope for a savanna view even though you may not get it. Is it really because its a slightly bigger room that standard is better?

Lisa is the real expert on this stuff, but I THINK the value sleeps four, whereas the standard sleeps five?? :confused3

oh, now that would be a real plus. Is that the case in the Jambo house?

ok thanks. Darn, where the heck is everyone tonight, are we the only night owls?:goodvibes

oh I'm lucky, hubby went to bed 4 hours ago! I'm a wicked night owl. Hey, ya better go man, I don't wanna be the one keepin you up, go man, go!:)

I don't believe there will be any 'Value' rooms in Kidani village. I think that is a classification for the smaller rooms in Jambo. Standard rooms at Kidani will indeed have the same amenities as the other rooms, but will have a "standard" view rather than a savanna view. In Jambo, that means pool or parking lot. Value rooms can have ANY view, but none guaranteed.

In Lisa's absence, I'll take a shot.

Standard rooms at Jambo are pool view rooms. The ONLY parking lot view rooms at Jambo are value rooms (and not many of them). At Kidani, theStandards will be pool, garden, or parking lot views, and Kidani won't have value rooms.

With the studios, the difference is mostly about size right now, with some consideration of guaranteed view. A Standard studio, at Jambo, is about 50 sq ft larger than the value. While you're right...with value you might get savannah view, you also might get parking lot view,. Standard assures you, at Jambo, you'll have a pool view.

With 1BR's and larger, the difference is about sleeping capacity, size, AND guaranteed view. For Standards, with a 1BR you can sleep 5, with a 2 BR you can sleep 9. The values sleep 4 and 8, respectively. The difference in size is about 80 sq ft on the 1BR and 130 sq ft on the 2BR. The same view rules apply noted above, I think (Lisa can cofirm), though I seem to remember that most of the parking lot view value rooms are studios.

Once Kidani opens, you'll throw in the other aspect of "location" being a concern. There will ONLY be standard and savannah view rooms at Kidani, so if you want to stay in the new building...that will be the reason you'll want to "pay" more points for a Standard.

Pilferk, thanks for doing better than I did. I actually meant the same thing but managed to type jambo instead of Kidani in one spot.

I for one think the value rooms (only available at Jambo) will be the most sought after catagory next to Club level.

I agree...and that's going to be another consideration: availability. Since the number of values is limited (and won't grow, even when Kidani opens) it may not come down to "why would you choose..." but "you've only got one choice available"...especially to non-AKV owners who might want to stay there.

Excellent point, and one that is often glossed over when talking about the BWV View situation. There are few people who choose a preferred view at the Boardwalk, the majority of people staying in preferred views are doing so because the standard views (bargain) or Boardwalk Views (good view) are booked.

I called yesterday, a couple of days into the 7 month booking window, to switch our Spring Break reservation to AKV and had our choice of rooms. Every category was available except Concierge for the two studios that we needed.

We were able to book a Savanna view and Value. I was actually very surprised, but very happy, that Value and Standard views were still available at 7 months! :yay:

Congrats! I'm glad you got what you were looking for!

I suspect that, once AKV is complete (all the conversions are done and Kidani is built..and all points are sold) you'll see the values availability be much less. Right now, membership numbers are relatively low. It only stands to reason that by adding more membership, but NOT adding more values (only at Jambo), that demand will outpace supply.

Concierge, likely, is going to require day by day bookings from OWNERS at the 11 month window...and as membership increases you'll be basically playing a form of the "CRT lottery" to get them.

Thanks pilferk!! I suspect you're right about future standard and value availability. As a BWV owner, it is very tough to get Boardwalk and Standard views. We've had to settle for a Preferred view a couple of times now.

However, I'm very excited that for our upcoming F&W trip next month, we were able to snag a BW view for the first time! I called day by day at 11 months for that one!!! :)

Thanks for the information. I'm staying in a standard view studio in January and really didn't have a clue. I'm not a "view" person and could care less what is outside my window. I was shocked to call and even get a standard view room when I called at the 7 month window. I was happy to save some points. I have a 5 night studio stay for the last week of January and it only cost 45 points. Now that is great IMHO. I've stayed at the AKL before and my last trip (CM discount) we booked a standard studio at $79 a night and was upgraded to a Savanna view (pretty good deal). It was nice and glad it happened, but it just didn't really matter after a day or two. We spend very little time in the room when staying in a studio. We own at BWV, mostly to get the standard view room during F&W. I know how hard it is to get standard rooms there too. I can't wait until the new AKV building is open and hope to snag a room there when it is.

Just to add to descriptions above. The reason the standard 1BRs sleep more is both because of additional size and they put in a chair that folds back into a sleeping area. When Kidani is done (which will have no value rooms), there will be two other differences: (a) the Kidani rooms overall are going to be larger than those in Jambo, e.g., its 1BR (and 2BR) savannas and standards will be larger than Jambo's, and (b) the 1BR will have two bathrooms (the 2BR three)

Thank you everyone for answering my questions. Now, I wonder, is 50 sq. ft. much of a difference between standard and value? And I also wonder, when Kidani is finished, why would anyone want to stay in Jambo, given the difference in sizes of these rooms and the fact of it being brand new? Do you think Jambo will be scrambling to put people in these "old" DVC rooms....hmmm.

I doubt if they will be "scrambling" as you put it. As I stated earlier, I think the value rooms will be highly sought after because of the point value.

I agree. I also think being close to the Main Lodge as well as Boma and Jiko will continue to hold a lot of appeal for people.
