Hi i just found out i have asthma. I dont really know much about this. Beside the breathing and coughing. Is there anything i should know?

Did you find out what triggers your asthma? Allergies, stress, exercised induced, etc...?

Are you on medication or inhalers? Always carry your inhaler with you, in case you may need it.

Take asthma seriously, my wife has asthma, when she was first diagnosed she was 17 and did not take it seriously. She smoked. She had to go to the emergency room a couple of times because of difficulty in breathing for intense treatments.

Be careful catching a cold, sometimes with asthma it can turn into bronchitis or pneumonia.

My three sons have asthma, and I was just diagnosed with it at 49 yrs old!! My biggest suggestion is to get with either a family doctor experienced to treat asthma, or a pulmonary doctor. You will need to get on a medication management regime, and will visit your doctor many, many times. It will be a relationship that will evolve over time, and both parties need to be communicating together. Best of luck to you.

Im on pill and on the inhalers. The guy said it could be allergies. Im 18. I have no one to talk to about this. Im kind of sared. Whats medication management regime?

Medical Management Regime is when you are told to take certain medicines at certain times of the day. Sort of like fololowing your doctor's instructions

Did the doctor explain to you what each medication you are takingis and what they do to help treat your asthma symptoms?

You are doing all of the right things. You are asking lots of questions and you have been to your doctor and taking the medications prescribed.
Keep up the good work! These are considered transitioning skills into adulthood when you are treating a chronic illness such as asthma.

You may find that your asthma acts up at certain times of the year with allergy season. My wife's is all year long. But with her medications it is under control (meaning no asthma attacks).
If you have any more questions, please ask, I am sure someone on here can help explain something you may not understand.
