Asthma. Nebulizer on plane security q and in the park?

Ok. We now have a nebulizer for our son.

So since we leave in a few weeks it will most likely come with us.

Since the thing has a motor etc in it. Do u have to get it out or tell the tsa what it is?
Wondering how it is handled thru the security check point? I'm a planner so I like to know what to expect.


Right now we are suppose to do the treatments 3x a day for the next week to get his breathing under control

For those who used nebulizers at Disney.
Did u do them at morning and night or bring them with u in the park just in case.
If u brought it with u to the park what did u do with it?
FYI my son is 2.

We have his inhaler to get by in the park if thing act up. He does still nap so we do need to head back to the room in the afternoon too.

A couple of years ago my mom had to take a nebulizer through airport security. We left it in it's bag and put it in a bag with just medical supplies (she is also a diabetic, as am I, so had insulin, syringes, glucometer, lancets, and also had some liquid pain med). A bag of medical supplies does not count against your carry on allowance, as long as it has only medical supplies in it. We just unzipped the bag the nebulizer was in, as well as the medical bag and sent it through. The ampules were in a gallon clear zip lock bag in their foil pouches. For some reason they did pull the nebulizer out and swabbed it, but it wasn't a problem. The ampules of Albuterol they didn't even pull out of the bag.

My mom just used it PRN. She did not take the nebulizer into the park. If she was SOB in the mornings she would use it before we left.

As pp said, I also just place my Nebulizer in my carry on with the rest of my medical supplies and medications. No Problems getting thru security

Never took it into the park so sorry can not help there but I would think you could then leave it at the first aid station so you could go there to do his treatments

We take ds's nebulizer on planes all the time. I just place it in the back-pack w/ my other items - no separate "medical" bag. They do take it out and look at it and they have "swabbed" it w/ their little thing to check for residue on it.

We have used it in the parks before and just carried it in the bottom of his stroller. If he's having an active flare up on this trip we will carry it in the parks and place in a locker since he's too big for a stroller (I'll miss using stroller as a wheelchair this year)-- I do carry his inhalers w/ me so we can use those as a first line defense but sometimes when he's flaring they don't work as well as the nebulizer treatments.

Just took mine in a small collapsible cooler so I had it for he park....the cooler not the nebulizer. There is no fee for medical equipment.

I know there are health stations and in all my trips I have never needed it in the ark if I take my meds and if I need a treatment it is typically June and I leave it in the room. I can tell when I had nough and would rahe go back to he room, treat nd rest.

I check medical equipment in First Aid all the time. They have you give some info (like name address and contact number) and will store it. They can also store things that need to be refrigerated. This is more secure than leaving it in a stroller outside queues.

Also they have treatment rooms in first aid with a bit of privacy and power for nebulizer treatments.

Check out special needs strollers - they are made for kids, teens, and even adults who outgrow strollers. You can rent them in florida if I remember correctly (I forget which company has them but someone here will know).

If you will need it more often, talk to your child's doctor about getting it covered by insurance and buy your own. If this is not an option (they really are expensive) then keep an eye on eBay and craigslist, as people often sell ones their children have outgrown.
