I need to know if this is true at all.. My 5 year old girl has severe asthma. She is on 4 different kinds of medicine for it. 1 is a nebulizer 2 times a day , 1 being a inhaler every four hours, 1 is Zyrtek and 1 is Singular and occasionally a steriod cough medicine.

I was talking to my friend about our trip and she stated that children with asthma do not have to wait in long lines in the hummidty. They can kind of jump right thru.

i know that this is true for wheel chair disabilities but I never heard about this for asthma.

Any one know the truth about this...

My child has cystic fibrosis, which also results in breathing difficulties. We get a Guest Assistant Card. Go to guest relations and explain your daughters situation. We had no problem getting the card. We even came with a doctor's note....but we didn't need it.

Good luck,

Charleyann

You can try for the card, but I assure you they will not "jump you right through" the lines. You will probably be allowed to wait for the same amount of time in the shade, or come back later at a scheduled time. Good luck! Have Fun!

One other thing to consider is each Park (including the water parks) has an RN-staffed First Aid location. These will store your medical equipment for you and provide an area to apply medications, if needed, as well as a cool area to rest (all at no charge).

From what you are explaining you would get the GAC for shade and you wait the same amount of time as the line but you can sit in the shade. If your little one has more needs then this you will have to explain them and the proper Card will be given for her needs.

As a fellow parent of precious redheads (DS 8 and DD 6), we all know that when you're a redhead, :sunny: the sun is NOT your friend.

Now my DS has a multitude of issues that require us to get a Guest Assistance Card to help out. He is wheelchair-bound with severe CP, but the things we get stamped on his GAC relate to his tight medication schedule and his need for a shaded waiting place. It sounds like your DD would need similar accommodation (except of course that she doesn't need wheelchair accommodation). We avoid some of the lines where practical, and simply fastpass others

Please feel free to email me for the specifics.

I am a severe asthmatic. (Bad enough that I was very close to being intubated during an acute attack a couple weeks ago) I get a GAC when I visit in the hotter summer months--in the more mild months I don't need it.

This card does NOT allow me to bypass any lines. In fact NO card will do that. What is does allow is for me to wait in a shaded area WHERE ONE EXISTS. Not all rides have a shaded area--Dumbo and Aladdin come straight to mind.

Any line that moves through a shaded queue you get right in the regular line. There's no "front of the line" pass.

My advice is to visit in the cooler late fall through mid spring months. If you must visit in teh summer, go early in the morning while it's cooler, leave as it starts to get hot around midday, then come back in the late afernoon. Generally the AK is the coolest of the parks, lots of shade and vegetation, so less heat coming off buildings and such.

bring an umbrella and one of those water bottles with a fan - plus of course regular cold water - put the water bottle in a freezer or just in ice the night before.

use the umbrella before she needs it.....

I have a big problem with the sun - I do like Anne suggested - get their early - when the parks get to hot or crowded - LEAVE - come back in the cooler evening hours.... you can definitely do this in the summer - because of the park later hours...

We moved to Florida because of my son's severe asthma. He is an exception to the rule and his asthma does well in heat and humidity. It's the cold and dampness that are his enemy. Another problem with him is the 2nd hand cigarette smoke and restaurants with an open pit. We either bring something to block the doors at the resorts or use a resort towel to block the doors (smoke gets in from ppl smoking outside of their rooms and also has seeped in from adjoining room doors.) For Ohana's we requested a table where it was well ventilated or far away from the fire. DS did fine at Ohana's eating, but had some discomfort in the waiting area. As for the request of the GAC, I believe due to Hippa laws with privacy issues, that if you ask for the card and briefly explain what you need, that you would have no problems getting one.

By the way, we carry a Micro Air Omron portable/battery operated nebulizer with us in the parks. I prefer to have it with us on hand rather than in a locker or 1st aid. It's very nice and convenient since it's so small.
