So I added my DD to my account as an associate thinking she would get a DVC member card and thus be entitled to the DVC discounts...wrong...only listed owners on the deed get the member cards and thus the discounts.

So whats the benefit of an associate ?

From the member website:
A "Purchaser" or "Additional Purchaser" is a person that is named on the deed of the Ownership Interest. Purchasers are also referred to as Club Members. The Primary Purchaser is the first person named on the deed. While a reservation confirmation is normally mailed to the Primary Purchaser, any Club Member may request to receive the reservation confirmation instead of the Primary Purchaser. Additionally, all financial information pertaining to the ownership interest, including Annual Dues Statements and Form 1098 (reporting mortgage interest), will be mailed to the Primary Purchaser. To designate a different Primary Purchaser to receive the financial information mailings, a request must be submitted in writing to Membership Administration and must be signed by all Purchasers. All Purchasers have equal ownership rights and all Purchasers receive Member Cards.

An "Associate" is a person named by the Purchaser or Purchasers who is only authorized to make reservations using the Club Member's Home Resort Vacation Points. Associates do not receive Member Cards and are not entitled to the benefits and privileges that are available to a Club Member. In addition, Associates may not access financial information related to the Annual Dues and/or loan pertaining to the Club Member's Ownership Interest.

An associate can book a reservation.

There's no benefit. Well, as an associate I can have my own account to book things. But since I'm the one that set up DH's account, and I did it with my email address, I never even activated my own account LOL.

But will Member Services talk to you if you call in?

Question: Associates (or adult children) who share the owner's address can't pick up their discounted APs at Guest Services since they don't have a DVC card? Does this mean the only way anyone can receive a discounted AP is if they are in the company of the DVC Primary Owner? Thanks for any info.

Yes, that's true.

However, there have been reports of the parent-owner giving the adult child his/her blue DVC membership card and since the child's address matched the owner's, GR allowed the adult child to pick up the pass without the member being present. Don't know if you can count on that, though.

Try calling MS to see what they say. If the answer is favorable, be sure to get that CM's name. Good luck!

I was able to pick up DS's and my special Premium APs a couple years ago without DH (the owner) being there. He did call in, telling them that he was injured and unable to go to Epcot with us (achilles injury a month before the trip + a rotten orthopedic doc who wouldn't even given him a boot and just told him to "rest" when DH's commute is half walking), but I'm not sure they even had that info at the Will Call booth.

I shied away from getting an AP in November b/c people here worried me that I wouldn't be able to get it (despite the fact that I would have his member card, am his wife, and I live at the same address and therefore am perfectly entitled to a DVC AP), but if I had REALLY wanted the AP I would have still done it. I'm actually pretty positive it would have been just fine. Just didn't want the AP that much.

For about 8 years (all during the time DS was in college/law school), I would arrive for our annual T-giving trip well ahead (sometimes by days, sometimes by hours) of him and I always picked up his DVC-discounted AP...I did have an old driver's license of his (he'd lost his license, gotten it replaced, and then found it...so I got to carry the "found" copy) and sometimes they asked to see it and sometimes they didn't...but never once was there any issue at all about whether I could pick it up once it was established that he was eligible for it...
