assisted suicide.

Ah, euthanasia.
I had to do a paper on this.
I'm for euthanasia. Why should people have to suffer with pain as they die? BUT, I am only for it as long as the person being assisted wanted it.

we don't let a dog suffer a painful death...
why let our fellow man?

I agree.
If I was sitting on my deathbed, wincing from pain, I'd rather just die easily and skip all of that pain.
Life is already painful enough, why should death be the same?

Definitely for it.
It's not just like a person says 'okay doing this' and it happens.
This is a medical procedure in a sense.
A person who opts for this does not makes this decision in a night.

i totally agree but if a person is brain dead then what do u think should happen??

I think they'll ask the patient ahead of time what they want to do.
They give them a paper to sign when they get to the hospital, just in case anything happens stating what they may have wanted.

what if the patient cant answer in the hospital if theyre in reallybad condition

AS isn't for brain dead. its for terminally ill.
the families of the brain dead determine when to pull the plug. (i've been close to those in this situation before)

Okay, the way you worded it is confusing me. If we're talking about in a medical situation, I am absolutely for it. If a person is dying of cancer, but suffering in pain, I do think they should have the right to euthanaisa.

Assisted suicide is where I get confused. Do you mean like a teenager wants to commit suicide, and his BFF, instead of encouraging him to get help and change his mind helps him get supplies needed to kil himself? I don't support that, but then again I don't know much about it. Or if by assisted suicide you mean The Megan Meier case? I don't support that at all. But I'm not completely sure if you would consider that assisted suicide?

Can you clarify Shelby?

I honestly don't know. Maybe they'd wait until the patient was in a condition where they could sign and be able to know. But let's say a patient was in a car accident, and went into a coma. I would think they would leave the patient alive, as long as possible since there's always a chance of coming back. But if the doctors don't see a chance (kind of like in Just Like Heaven), they would ask a family member what they would want to do and would have to fill out papers.

So it's up to the family, then. I'd try my hardest to keep them alive if it was my family member, because I always have hope. A coma, though, is a really tricky thing when it come's to assisted suicide though.

Assisted suicide is purely medical.
It's legal in .. Switzerland or Sweden. I can't remember. It's for the teriminally ill who have spoken about it with their loved ones and have all agreed that it's the best. I believe the doctors have the final say in what happens though.

i meant assisted suicide in the medical sense. as in, i'm in pain, i want to die, my doctor ods me on morphine, my breathing stops.

i didn't think anyone would make that mistake, my apologies for being vague.

The patient should have a will (advanced directive) or a next of kin is to be appointed.

would the death penalty be in the category of assisted suicide??? wait technically that wouldnt be considered suicide would it ???

currently, assisted suicide is illegal. dr kavorkian ("the suicide doctor") went to jail for 5 years (i think) for easing the passing of his patients.

What happened in the Terri Schindler-Schiavo case? Was that considered assisted suicide? I'm a bit confused on that.

You don't just go 'I want assisted suicide', and then BAM! You're in a room waiting for your drug.
That doesn't happen. You decide this long before it happens, it's a long drawn out process.

And it's illegal basically everywhere.

Okay. I TOTALLY support that. If it were me, I'd want to be put out of my misery. Heck, there were times I wasn't even in enough pain to be on morphine (which doesn't help me, its really weird!) and I was like "Just let me die!". Of course, I was just being a drama queen, lol.
