Hiya everyone

does anyone take Aspirin before their flight?

:thumbsup2

Yes - we take Asprin before the flight. Coming back from Orlando in 2000 I took too many and my tongue swole and I could not stop shaking, this lasted a few hours so be careful with the dosage.

How many do you take, l cant remember how many the Boots lady told me to take?

Nowadays I just take 1. The time I had the reaction I took 2 then another 2 after 4 hours - it just didn't agree with me.

We always take aspirin before flying.

We take 1 aspirin a day for 3 days before flying

I always take one. A doctor advised me to take it. I don't have any circulation problems, but he said better be safe than sorry!

I'm a little fatty so I take aspirin-apparently I'm more prone to DVT. Trouble is I always forget before I come back....I also wear those horrible flight socks and its the very first thing I do when I land-rip the b****y things off! They make me itch like anything. Although I have noticed since I wore them that my feet don't swell up when I fly.

Aspirin 75mg is the recommended anti-coagulant dose. There shouldn't be any problems with such a low dose, but be careful if you have a stomach ulcer or take Warfarin. Take a single dose about an hour before flying, but its more important to exercise your legs regularly as this helps prevent pooling of blood in the lower limbs. Also drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol as dehydration can contribute to DVT.

I do take 1 before flying but only 1 as taking 2 does tend to give me an upset tummy. :)

There is no need to take more than one 75mg tablet. One of the problems with aspirin is that it can upset your stomach as it effects the chemicals which protect your stomach from itself. Higher doses of aspirin are used as pain killers or for anti-inflamatory effects - as far as DVT's are concerned, you don't really benifit from a dose higher than 75mg!
Hope this helps

We usually start taking one aspirin about 3 days before the flight. One during the flight and the same on the return trip.

Anyone know if aspirin is safe to take with "calming" drugs? I'm always pretty heavily dosed up on kalms and rescue remedy and don't wanna mix stuff that shouldn't be mixed! I do have circulation problems though so aspirin may be a good idea.

I'm a rescue remedy devotee too. As far as I know it doesn't interact with any prescription or OTC medications. Couldn't vouch for Kalms though.

Just checked on the RR website and it does say preggers women can take it so it must be OK

The main problems with aspirin interactions and herbal medicines are those which contain Ginkgo biloba. Vitamin E can also interact with aspirin. The best advice is to check with your GP or Pharmacist before travelling, especially if you have health concerns.

my sil is a very nervous about flying, she swears by taking natursleep from boots, this has the effect of calming her down.
Sorry to go of subject there, does anyone know if you can take aspirin for the plane journey as well as co-codomol? I have to take co-codomol for sciatica.

Co-codamol contains codine and paracetamol. Aspirn comes from a family of drugs called NSAIDs. It's okay to take these two types of drug at the same time, but make sure you don't take other medicines containing paracetamol.

Thanks for all the info guys, its quite a common subject l feel. I'm gonna take one tablet on the morning of my flight after i've had some breakfast at the airport :thumbsup2

If you're an aged challenged person ("old") you might want to confirm this with a doctor. Some elderly people should avoid blood thinners of any kind, including aspirin. (and some not so elderly like yours truly).
