I'm doing a last-minute Christmas trip from Nov 29-Dec 5. The plan is to stay with my friend who lives in Orlando to save money. It's stupid but I want a room for one night, Dec 3-4. I leave the 5th and booking for that one night gives me EMH on the two days I really want them (my favorite thing ever is to stay in MK until close the night before I leave & EMH has it open until midnight on the 4th). I found ASM for $128 or POFQ for $220. I quite want to do POFQ because it's prettier, they have a hot tub, and I can eat beignets when I get back to the hotel on my one night (lol). I am on a budget but I'm also staying with a friend for the rest of my trip, so I feel like that sort of makes it better? I have until the 28th to cancel if I don't find anything better (and trust me, I'm checking, I once got POR for $89) but if it was you, WWYD?

If your budget allows for it, I would vote for POR. It's a lot more chill than the all-star resorts in my opinion. Since it is over Thanksgiving weekend, I'm not sure you'll find anything better (not really sure what your mean by "better" - do you mean cheaper?).

Sounds like you're doing the hotel mostly for the EMH benefit. And if you're planning on staying at MK until midnight, you won't be in the room a whole lot. For that reason, I'd pick ASM. It's not a budget buster...

I would pick ASM as it saves $$$ and you won't be at the resort much anyway.

ASM in my opinion. The hot tube won't be open and you likely won't be able to get beignets after MK emh anyway. Why pay for something you won't use?

While yes it's a short trip so you're only paying for one night and sounds like you'll mostly be at the parks, I'd still pick POFQ over ASM since it sounds like you may use some of the resort amenities. If you were strictly just booking for EMH, then I'd say ASM.

Seeing that the rest of your accommodations are free anyway, I'd probably pick French Quarter IF you think you'll have enough time to enjoy the resort a little. Will the hot tub still be open when you get back from MK, for example? If you're not going to get much time to enjoy the resort, a bed is a bed, in which case I'd take the cheaper option.

The hot tub won't be open? :/ If it's not open in December, then that makes going for ASM a much easier choice.

I won't be going back to the resort on the 4th (MK night) because I'll be checking out that day, but I will be at the resort on the 3rd probably in the mid-afternoon and then again later that night (for sleeps haha). According to DTB Scat Cat's is open until midnight so it'd have to be whenever I check in. Of course, I could also just go over there and buy them, but I was hoping to combine hot tub + beignets with a short nap when I check in. :P

Cheaper, yeah lol. It's only for Tuesday night but with the opening of ROTR on Thursday I don't know if anything will pop up. Today is the first day I saw some reasonable prices so they could just be a fluke.
I guess the question is whether or not I'm going to take the midday break, and I'm going to go look up if the hot tub is open in December or not. If not, then there's less of a reason to take the break & hang out at the resort.

Sorry I meant in the evening about the hot tub. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I voted POFQ - but it comes with a caveat - only do that if you are really going to spend time at the resort. I do like POFQ - its pretty, its quiet, and it just feels relaxing to me. If you are really going to enjoy the hot tub regardless of the outside temperature, enjoy the lounge, take in the scenery, and use the EMH that the resort stay gets you - sure - go for it. I've done the more expensive choice for a few hours of experience at a resort. I have very fond memories of being in a studio at Bay Lake for two nights - and spending a couple hours at the pool - in 55 degree weather drinking hot chocolate poolside - simply because I could! (It was in the teens back home and I rarely manage to bother trying to snag a cheap DVC rental)

BUT - I also can remember staying at the pricier option - and wondering in retrospect why I did that as all I did was sleep there!

You’re completely right, and I think this is what I’m trying to decide. Will I do lots of Touring and explore other resorts & Disney Springs, or will I spend time at the hotel? It’s Tuesday, which means low crowds at Disney Springs & the parks, so maybe I should stay at ASM & just have the resort for EMH & sleeping.
