Asking how much to upgrade?

This may be frowned upon, but I thought I would ask. We are staying with points at SSR this weekend, and I was wondering if it would be bad if I asked how much it would cost me to upgrade to a 1BR. I don't even know if that is an option since I am booked with points. I have heard of guests doing this when they have booked at other resorts, of course they weren't booked with points. Just wondering what people thought about this. I guess the worse they could tell me is that is not an option. What do you think?

It's not an option for cash.

If there was availability for a 1BR they would charge you the additional points as asking for a free upgrade on DVC isn't going to happen. Very rarely upgrades are given for reasons that DVC needs to do it but you won't get it by asking. That would just be luck of the draw.

If you rented, you should not even ask. An upgrade would be paid for with points. Cash is not an option for points reservations. The additional points would come from the owner's account and your agreement/contract most likely doesn't cover it. The front desk should NOT allow upgrades for points without a DVC membership ID, but some of them are not completely trained in the DVC policies.

If they are your points, yes, getting no for an answer is the worst that could happen. No harm, no foul to you -- you're right where you were before asking.

However, if you have rented a reservation and a sloppy CM lets you upgrade, the owner you rented from is going to lose those extra points. Not nice.

Or before you go, whoever you rented the points from, you can ask. 1) if they have the points 2) what the price would be (close to double what you paid because that is what a one bdrm goes for) 3) if there is availability to do at said resort.
