Asking for an upgrade

1st let me say I would NEVER ask for an upgrade. I pay for what I want and expect that and that only. (did'ent even know about the upgrade thing until I read it here)

That being said.
I called POFQ yesterday and asked for a corner room, no water view, did not much care where at and.... well it seemed like I was being rude asking.

It is considered rude to call ahead and ask for a specific room type... I really felt like I was a little kid begging for more desert. : (

(I can also say that it was not a first call maybe that was why they {yes they} seemed "short" with me)

Did I breach Etiquette? :confused3

ETA, no you didn't breach etiquette.
First off, you did not talk to anyone at POFQ. Instead, you spoke to someone with central reservations because even when you call the front desk when staying at a WDW resort, you're talking to the call center. It's this type of thing Disney has been doing that takes away from what was, at one time, just about the best customer service in the business.

Chances are your request was noted on your reservation. If you want to make sure someone at POFQ sees your request, here's the FAX number:
1-407-934-5353

I hope you get your request and have a great trip!

No, your requests are completely legitimate, nothing to be concerned about. With that, I'll say that when I booked our last three trips, I always made room requests and the majority of them have been granted at POFQ each time. Yesterday, I called to book a trip for November and asked for ground floor, close to food court, corner room and a standard view (standard isn't a request, water view or king bed rooms are the only upgrades for a price at POFQ). So, don't feel guilty for asking for what you want, and if you got a cranky CM, well, phooey on them!

While asking for an upgrade may not be a problem at many hotels, and even expected in some areas (like Las Vegas), the culture is a little different at WDW.

I really believe this. I've read many of these upgrade threads and never posted, but wanted to share our thoughts. My husband loves to ask for upgrades at other hotels, and we often get them, but we don't ask at WDW based on the advice here. And I think the advice is really good.

First, it clearly makes CMs uncomfortable, based on what many of them have reported. But also, even if I would say I won't be disappointed if I don't get the upgrade, I would feel like I was setting myself up for even a twinge of disappointment by asking. Then I'd wonder - is it just availability? Am I not nice enough? Is my celebration not special enough? Are my kids not cute enough? Ugh!! I don't want to think about any of that - I want to enjoy every moment and not get stressed about the possibilities at check-in.

It's very important to me not to be disappointed at WDW - this place is magical, but I have to keep my expectations in check to enjoy the magic! In over 25+ years, I've never received an upgrade, but I consider myself very lucky that Disney has always been able to honor the requests on my reservations (which I don't expect either.) Yay!!!

Thank you both. I was feeling So horrible.:confused3 Like I had made a "Well that's gonna be a pain in the butt guest" stamp right on the front of my reservation.

Like the last poster I just cant deal with Disappointment at Disney, to me and my 6 years old brain Disney is prefect, period NO one there is ever mad or upset... bla bla you know the rest. : ) :wizard: I very Last thing I would ever do is offent or upset one of the people Blessed to work there that create the magic for me (Corney I know)
:flower3:
Thanks for support.
Man I truly Love POFQ, its just so prefect. pixiedust:

Me too; I would be very upset if I paid a great deal of money to stay somewhere and then someone expected to stay at the same place having paid a lot less.....

I believe it is fun to have one as a surprise rather than begging at the desk for something you didn't pay for, that someone else did.
Well forgetting those guests who get surprise upgrades since that was a resort decision, there are always going to be guests paying different rates for the same room categories at each resort. For example my family and I got a 40% off Bounceback rate for this August at the Contemporary for an Atrium Club - Bay Lake View. However for all I know there might be other guests staying there during that time who paid full price through CRO and didn't realize they could look into getting a discount. So should we feel guilty because we are paying less for the same room, I wouldn't because it's not our fault someone else couldn't get a discount.

We know people who go to WDW often and consequently feel they are "entitled" to an upgrade each visit. One family we know was disappointed last vacation because they only got a "modest" upgrade. Many years ago we got a "magical" upgrade, it was amazing. However, we have also stayed in rooms at a deluxe resort with a view overlooking construction and had a wonderful time! How anyone can be disappointed in not getting MORE than what they paid for? I would never ask for an upgrade at WDW, if it happens it's magical, if it doesn't, you are on vacation at WDW, isn't that magical?!!!

I agree with you 100%. If you go in with the attitude that you already have a wonderful vacation ahead of you, then any pixie dust that happens to you is just icing on the cake!:cheer2:
