Askerhaus for dinner

Ok, at 13 my dd is way past the princesses. But we're taking a friend this trip, and when we found a reservation, that's where they decided to go. The food actually sounded pretty good. Is dinner a pre-plated thing rather than a buffet? And what do you all recommend. Both girls are salmon and beef lovers.

If I'm not mistaken, it is like lunch (we weren't crazy about it). There is a salad bar with salads, cold meats, cheeses, etc. You then order your entree off the main menu. I forget what DH had -- he didn't like it (way too salty); I had their "traditional" meal which is sort of like meatloaf and I did not like it at all.

I reccomend skipping it...but that is just my opinion the cold meats made me nauseous....and even the item that I oredered came out swimming in the plate...our dinner was two adults and two children...the kids ate nothing...but the interaction was great

Really, the kids ate nothing? I have this booked for our August trip. It was supposed to be a surprise dinner, but my dd11 overheard my husband talking about it. Now all she's been doing is complaining about eating there and how there's nothing on the menu that she'll eat. My ds7 will be happy with the hot dog on the kid's menu. I thought we'd give it a try and that dd would be able to fill up at the appetizer bar. The only other restaurant I can book for that night would be Tokyo Dining or Restaurant Marrakesh. I've never tried either, but I'm not sure which would be better for her.

We loved it.
We went for dinner this past Jan. It was easily one of the best meals of our trip (and we went to Le Celier that trip). The cold buffet had some lunch meats and salads and fresh fruit (a must for DS).
I had the pork dish, don't remember now if it was a loin or chop. DH had the beef. DS had a hot dog and (I think) DD got Mickey ravioli. Kids ate well, which is difficult at a character meal.

DH and I were both pleasantly surprised. After the reviews I had read I wasn't expecting much and warned DH as much. It's one of the few meals we're repeating this trip.

Askerhus has a great atmosphere (it's like the inside of a castle), princesses galore with great interaction AND edible food. From what I've experienced, it's difficult to get all three.

Oh, and some of the waiters aren't too tough on the eyes, which can be a bonus with teenage girls.

Went for dinner last September. I'm a picky eater and found plenty of things on the cold buffet to eat. For my entree I had the salmon and really enjoyed it. My daughter and son in law had the beef tips and said they were good.

Agree with everything you said! We have always had a great experience there.

I've never been for dinner, but have eaten lunch there twice. Both times were great and I would never hesitate going back. Can't give you suggestions based on your girls' likes (I'm vegetarian and my mom had the chicken), but I would definitely recommend it based on how much we liked our meals. The character interaction is fantastic as well.

We had dinner at Akershus and I'd go back in a heartbeat if DH'd let me. He's anti-princesses hehe. I thought the cold buffet was very good-although I did steer away from the 12 kinds of herring! The peel and eat shrimp was really good, and the salads were yummy too. I could have made a meal right then and there.

DH got the kjottake (I know I didn't spell that right) and it was pretty good. I'm a picky eater and I liked it. Glad I didn't order it though because my pork chop was AMAZING. Seriously. Probably the best pork chop I've ever had-and that includes my mom's cooking (she's a really good cook) The spices they used are what made it great, and it wasn't tough or anything. Plus our waiter was super cool and helpful. We gave him like a 25% tip he was so great! The character interaction was really awesome too and we don't even have kids!

I highly recommend you stay with it!

It was just okay when we went last year. I got the traditional meal. I liked the mashed potatoes quite a bit, but not the meatball/meatloaf thingy. Our servers were incredibly slow/bad. My dh had the mahi mahi and it was awesome.

We have eaten here several times. We really enjoy the cold bar.Kids like snacking on the fruit. I like the salads and shrimp, but some of the cheeses were nasty. I had the salmon and it was good as well. It is not my favorite meal, but is is by far not the worst. We skipped it this trip, but we are planning to return next year.

the food is pretty good... we both had the pork chop, but the interruption of princesses at your table can get borderline annoying if you dont care about pictures with all of them. its very tight in there, and with their big dresses and flashes in the dark room, its not very relaxing. i won't put this in our rotation until (if) we have a little girl.

So it sounds like the salmon and the pork are the winners! Thanks all. Both girls like foods (they ate over a pound of salmon at dinner this weekend!) and will probably find something they like. My dd's not too keen on the princess thing, but her friend is bunch of fun, and so they'll enjoy it together. I'm looking forward to it.

Btw, whoever was looking for something else, Tokyo Dining is one of my dd's favorites. She LOVES the tempura there.
