Ashes spread in WDW

Ashes have been burned at temps of thousands of degrees... they're more sanitary than anything else that's in the jungle cruise :rotfl: water !

You're quite right - I was going to post that much household dust is made up of skin flakes - which I am sure now has some people contemplating wearing a filter mask 24/7:scared: - a few sprinkled cremains just gets mixed in with the rest of the "gross" stuff we breath

Until I joined the Dis - nearly 6 years ago - I thought I was the only person who wanted a teeny bit sprinkled at WDW. I've since been diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and it actually makes my son (5 when I was diagnosed, currently 8) feel good that he will get to go to WDW with "me" after I am gone. There are other places I will direct my DH and DS to go with small amounts of my remains. I hope those trips will be times of bringing back memories and shared happiness.

ASHES!

So THAT'S what keeps Sneezy's nose so irritated at WDW!

I'm no Doc,
but I'm Happy
to report that I am no longer Bashful
that I used to appear Dopey
about this matter.

I'm now Sleepy
so I'll get some shut-eye so as not to be Grumpy
later in the day.

lisadam, I'm saddened to hear of your diagnosis, and at the same time, delighted that you decided to share it on this thread. Your story perfectly describes why so many wish to eternally remain part of Disney - I think all anyone wants upon their passing from this world is for their loved ones to remember them as they lived, not as they died. While we live, many of us have the Disney magic coursing through our veins. Trips to Disney exemplify what's good and loving about time spent with family and friends. How nice for the ones we leave behind to know that a part of us will always be part of that magic!

That's exactly it! I'm hoping that by "forcing" DH and DS to go to WDW (and several other places) - that they'll be reminded of the good things - and the silly things - and some of the things that were important to me.

Frankly I hope to postpone this for as long as possible;) - and I am doing fairly well  - but I am thrilled that talking about it with DS seems to help in a way - gotta love and apprciate that Disney magic :wizard: .

I'm glad you're feeling well and so my question is....why don't you have any trips planned to WDW??? Get thyself a reservation, girl!!!!:cheer2:

Well said. Your in our thoughts, Lisa.

Walt himself was cremated. I wonder if his family sprinkled some of him over Disneyland.

I love Disney, but my childhood memory is centered at Cedar Point. I asked my husband to bring some of my ashes there, but he is one of those goodie two-shoes who would never break the rules. I'm hoping to stick around until my kids are grown so one of them can do the honors! :thumbsup2

Thought this was perfect for this thread:

The song "Magic Kingdom in the Sky" by DaVinci's Notebook. Here's a link to hear it:

Scroll down the page and click on the mp3 for the song. I think I want this one played at my memorial service!

lisadam, may it be a very long time before you have to worry about going to DW with your son in any other form other than the one you are presently in. I have many friends who have survived many years with breast cancer and I am wishing the same for you. I had thought about the fact that household dust is mostly made up of skin flakes too but did not want to freak out the poor poster who was so freaked out already. The truth hurts sometimes. :)When are you going to DW again? It is good medicine and you will be 'makin' memories"!

Robo, thanks for the laugh. Yep, Sneezy might have an allergy to dust. Might be what causes Grumpy to be so too.

Halloweenqueen, I would avoid Cedar Point and anywhere in Ohio like the plague. Not that Ohio is not a perfectly nice state but my childhood was spent there and my memories are not that nice. On second thought, revenge? Nope, not my style.

Back to work. Sure glad I have this diversion as a reward for all this work. It looks so good and will all have to be done when we get back and before we leave on our next trip. Anyone feel sorry for me? Thought not. :rotfl2:

How weird when I logged on today and saw this thread.

DW and I just had this conversation again last night.

I want my ashes scattered in Nantucket, The Outer Banks, and Disney, as well as some in my own yard. My three favorite vacation spots, and home sweet home.

My wife has specific areas in each park, so that the ashes wont get sucked up, blown away, or trampled through, and when she and my kids and any other family members visit, they will have specific places to go and remember all the happy times.

On a serious note...in order to be discreet, I think you would need much more than a "few" baggies. Typical adults result in 6-8 pounds of cremains. Let's say you wanted to use snack-size ziplocs (a fairly discreet size), I would imagine you might need 15-20 bags (or maybe more).

Hope that helps in your planning!:thumbsup2

Twitch you know this because........................

IT's been less than a year - and I'd love to go in November - but there may be some more medical "stuff" then - I have to wait and see

But then - if there is more medical "stuff" - I can much more easily justify upgrading from what I think we should do this year :woohoo:

I think we should each limit ourselves to a token bag or two otherwise all four parks will look like a desert. :rotfl:

lisadam, all these trips this year are because my husband requested (after getting some surprising bad news last year) to go to DW. The truth is he would have made the same request if he had a hangnail but here we go anyway! I am such a good wife!! :cheer2: I do not want to be one of those women who vacation with other ladies after the husband is gone and keeps saying "Bob (insert name of choice) would have loved it here". If you really love your family you would not want them to have any regrets so you owe it to THEM to go to DW ASAP and AO(often)AP!!! I hope it is possible and if you postpone until December I might just get to see you there too!

As much as it might tempt me personally to be placed/scattered somewhere within WDW, I don't think I'd want to have my family do that. I'm afraid it would simply associate their future trips to WDW with sad memories of ash scattering. I'm content knowing they'll remember our visits together in happier circumstances, whenever they return to WDW after I'm no longer around.

Well, last I heard- my Mom had plans with just a teeny bit of Grandma's ashes for her last visit to DL... I had forgotten to ask if she actually did it- I guess I will.

Funny how a thread has made me chuckle and yet get teary-eyed at the same time. Dang, I miss that old woman.

We scattered some of my dad's ashes up in Maine near where we used to vacation when we were kids, and are now taking our own kids (all seven families!). The rest of Dad is sitting in the funeral home box, waiting for another idea.

I never thought of bringing his ashes to WDW, but when I went planned my family's first trip last November, I was thinking of him a lot. He took us for the first time when I was 16 and he was at least as excited as any of us kids, to see these things we'd seen on the Wonderful World of Color (oops am I that old? I mean Wonderful World of Disney!) over the years.

Back then I rode the Haunted Mansion with him and he was beside himself laughing at the ghost that hitched a ride with us. When we walked out of the Mansion in November I was so overcome with the memory that I just burst into tears. Luckily the kids had already settled into the stroller and didn't see me weeping at the Happiest Place on Earth.

I have been telling dh and dd for years that I want to be scattered in the "world". They thought I was kidding. I showed this this thread and all of a sudden I am not crazy anymore. Thanks guys!!!!!!

Opal, do you really think that all it would take for MY family not to think I am crazy is to read this thread?

I know my family. They would just say that all my friends are crazy too. :confused3

Better crazy than humorless. :woohoo:

Slightly Goofy

But while you're feeling good, nows the best time to go and create more memories.

I'm hoping for the best for you and your family.
