Are they accomodating when it comes to ASD children in the activity centers, mainly Neverland Club? My boys (1 ASD and 1 NT) will be turning 4 on our trip and I would like to send them to the Neverland Club one night. He is potty trained but since he still has accidents I usually put him in a pull-up when we go to play areas just in case. I know normally its not allowed, but would they allow him to wear it? He is non-verbal so he wont be able to tell them he has to go. What happens if he ends up having an accident while he's there?

I can't answer specifically about Disney as my son was older, but in general, those types of child care centers will call the parent to come change the child if there is an accident.

An in room babysitting service might be a better option.

I agree. I asked some questions at the club at WL and was told they do not change children. They are not set up for it.

Would love to know the same question. We know our DS would love to participate, but needs a lot of extra care and attention. :)

Whether Disney's children's clubs can "accommodate" a child with ASD or any other disability will depend on the child and his/her ability to function within a group setting. These places are not equipped or staffed to provide one-on-one support or special medical needs. Is your child mainstreamed? If so, is that with or without support personnel? To what extent does he/she need that 1:1 - for all tasks, specific tasks, full time or shared? What types of direct assistance does your child need that may be outside the "norm" (and I hesitate to use that term)?

To OP...they may or may not allow him to wear the pull-up at the club, however they will NOT help him change if he has an accident while wearing it. If he's unable to communicate to the counselors what happened, he likely will be wearing the soiled pull-up when you return (which could be hours); if he can communicate what happened, they will call you to come back and attend to changing him (if you are planning an evening out away from that resort, it may not be something you want to risk).

As another poster suggested, there is the option of in-room babysitting services.

I'm not sure about the clubs at the resorts, but my 4 year old with Autism was allowed in the Oceaneer Club and Lab on the Disney Wonder. He wore pull ups because he isn't completely potty trained outside the home due to his sensory issues. I called the special services number for DCL and they told me it would be ok. I was just called to change him when needed. He was ok at the club, but really it was only when there happened to be one staff member with a background in Autism that he was comfortable. The other times the staff didn't know what to do with him and I had to go get him when he had a meltdown.

I know Kids Nite Out can arrange a special needs sitter. We are going in October and I've been considering it for just one night. It's expensive and a 4 hour minimum and then an extra charge for evenings. But I'm sure the peace of mind would make it worth it.

A lot of it depends on how high functioning your son is.
