As The World Turns has been cancelled!

OMG! I was thinking about getting into ATWT again. I used to watch it many years ago. I watched Guiding Light everyday and have really been missing it. Guess I won't bother watching ATWT now. Looks like daytime tv is turning into crap with all the stupid court and game shows.

This is such sad news. It's my favorite soap. I use to watch it with my mom when I was little. She even named me after Lisa. I will miss the show.

My personal choice is to cancel the B&B instead.. Story lines are awful and with a half-hour show, you get about 10 minutes of the actual soap..

:santa:

:sad2:

Yes, I posted that on the As The World Turns thread here on the DIS this morning. I don't think any of those posters are aware yet. :sad2:

We have until SEPTEMBER 2010. :goodvibes

Woo-Hoo! I can not STAND any soap opera. One down.....too many to go.

:headache:Oh bother......:headache:

:headache: Just a poster trying to boost their post counts. :headache:

Oh and as far as your post goes, TP, the emphasis should have been on NOT, not on STAND.... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

wow - can't say i'm shocked though. I've been watching this soap on and off (mostly on) for many years.

This is so sad! I don't watch this soap (only B&B) but I had been thinking about viewing every other soap out there to add to my list of things to watch. I know there are plenty of long time fans who will be saddened, as well as the cast and crew, probably. I guess after working on one project for so long, they become like a family. I just read it's been on since 1956! Something needs to be done to boost the reputation of soaps, and quick! All I hear are complaints about the story lines. I wouldn't want it to get to the point where all of them are canceled. There's a group of really loyal fans who want their soaps, just like somebody might want their sporting games or cop dramas or sitcoms. Maybe that group just isn't big enough, but maybe it could be with improved quality.

What they need is better writing. I was a big fan of soaps (though only the ABC ones) over 10 years ago. I loved the sense of community, of family, seeing the interaction if three generations of those families. My favorite was GH. But they lost me when it became "the Sonny Show", they got rid of the veterans and lost the feeling of "the town"

I haven't watched any soap for years, but it saddens me. I think their only hope is to go back of the old format. It worked, so why they changed it? Moving focus from families to the "young and hip" has backfired big time

Women had been on the workforce for many years before the decline in viewership, so I don't think that's the reason for the demise of so many shows.

The lack of quality it's what's killing the genre, IMO

The writers for Y&R and B&B had better step up. It looks like the higher ups at CBS has a plan. This is the second CBS soap cancelled in less then a year!

I agree.. How many times can you keep bringing people back from the dead - because the body was never recovered?

How many times can Ridge bounce back and forth between Brooke and Taylor? :cool1:

How many times can Jack and Carly go round and round? How about the never-ending Lily/Hoden/Damien? :headache:

How many characters can cling to life per month with "subdural hematomas"? :sad1:

----------------------

Come on folks! We can write better than that!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Aw, that's kind of sad. :sad1: I remember my Grandma watching that soap opera when I was a little girl in the 60's. I watched it briefly after I first got married in '75, but ended up giving it up, along with Search for Tomorrow, Love of Life, One Life to Live and General Hospital. I continued watching The Young and the Restless for many, many years but finally gave that one up a couple of years ago.

Didn't they just cancel Guilding Light recently? And now As the World Turns too. Must be people just don't watch soaps like they used to. Times change I guess.

Makes sense! The viewing audience just isn't there anymore since many women now work outside the home.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. Most homes have Tivo or DVR, or even VCRs to record their "soaps" if they want to watch them. I think it's crappy story-lines and poor writing that's killing them.

How many times can Ridge bounce back and forth between Brooke and Taylor? :cool1:

Oh my goodness, ain't that the truth?!

I wish they would get rid of ALL the daytime dramas.

I' m sorry to hear that As The World Turns Fans, I would be devasted if Days Of Our lives was cancelled

As for B&B, I think they could be very successful if they continue featuring Bill Spencer Jr /Don Diamont. I think he keeps the show suspenseful and intriguing ... I still can't trust him 100% and I love that exciting feeling of wondering if he's the good man he says he is or if he'll suddenly turn and become the villain. Maybe he's both. pirate:

I've read that viewers want to see more of Sheila, Thorne, Kristen, Felicia, Clarke, CJ, etc. It can't be that difficult to bring them back, right? Get people who can act (not Steffy!). I'd like to see interaction between Ridge and Nick, Thorne and his family (I loved his scenes with his parents prior to Katie's wedding), the staff at Jackie M.
