As the Ticker Turns...the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

The meal shouldn't be heavy either so that will help before a race the next day! :)

We do split stays for all kinds of trips - long and short - and we absolutely love them! We've split stays for as little as two nights and as many as nine. Our January trip ended up as a split between four different resorts! I think it really depends on the circumstances and your family's travel style. Our kids are really on-the-go, we love trying new resorts and our teenagers love to change it up. Also, our travel style works well with splits - we pack very light (easier with three boys ages 7, 14 and 15), I love organizing before and during the trip for a split stay and we make extensive use of Bell Services. Even when not splitting, I'm tidying and organizing the room every night for our next day anyway. We don't leave stuff out (other than the toiletries) and we don't use the drawers, so it's really easy for us.

So when we switch resorts, we spend zero extra time beyond packing up the toiletries and calling Bell Services. Then we're off to a park and we go directly to Resort #2 for our afternoon break. One more call to Bell Services and we're settled in again. On the occasion that we transfer on our own, we hop in an early morning cab with our luggage and we're checked in at Resort #2 before rope drop on transfer day.

On the other hand, if you have a little one with lots of gear, spread out in your room, or don't love constant crazy organizing, I can see how a split is less convenient.

P.S. If I were splitting between the two, I'd split between POR and CBR. If just one resort, I'd choose CBR because of the pool and new rooms. It's really spread out, but we found it wasn't too bad when staying in Martinique. And our oldest son (now 15) was 18 months old at the time and loved it! Even better now with the new pool. And the tropical atmosphere/theme is so fun.

thank you so much!:goodvibes I think we are staying at CBR and if they end up not opening the discount for our whole stay and we have to make two reservations we are going to split POR and CBR

Just wanted to pop in and say hello. :wave2: I got home from my trip on Saturday night. We had great seats for the CP and Neil Patrick Harris was great!!! We had a great time, but I did miss my boys. Now I just need to get over the ick that I came home with. We don't have a Disney trip anytime soon, but I would love for the next one to be at Christmas time.

I hope everyone is doing well. :grouphug:

Thank you! I'm so happy to hear this. This ADR is between the half marathon for my husband and teens and the marathon for me - so I thought it best not to travel too far for dinner!

I was happy to hear good things about The Wave, too. Good luck to all the racers!

The meal shouldn't be heavy either so that will help before a race the next day! :)

We are planning to eat at The Wave in the fall. I noticed they have a nice appetizers, so that would make for a light-ish dinner. Thanks for your post.

Sounds like a great plan! :goodvibes

Welcome back Wookie. Glad you had a good trip. :cool1:

No changes here, we are counting down the days till we are at AKL.
In the meantime, I have to get to work on Christmas boxes. :santa: Tomorrow is the day. :thumbsup2

Gwynne - what are your dates for next year?

Well I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Disney getting quotes for different resorts. Long story short we are going to stay at Pop (like originally) in a standard pool view room. We went ahead and added the QS dining plan but are not going to rent a car. We have decided to scrap the week at the beach and just do Disney. I'm bummed it's what is best for now.

Hope everyone had a nice transition to the week!

I think so too! I've eaten all sorts of different things the night before half marathons (sushi, bar food, pizza, pasta) and I'm not sure that one is significantly better than the other. My best half marathon time followed a pasta dinner, but I'm not sure that was the reason - more like it was just a good day, weather perfect, course uncrowded.

thank you so much!:goodvibes I think we are staying at CBR and if they end up not opening the discount for our whole stay and we have to make two reservations we are going to split POR and CBR

Yay! Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Welcome Back! Can't wait to hear more about your trip! We'd love to do MVMCP someday, and while January trips are common, I haven't been to Disney at Christmas since 1987, I think. Really looking forward to more details! Feel better soon!

Thank you! Our AOA and AKL magic bands just arrived today - very exciting. Have you heard anything about construction on the Kidani pool splash pad?

We do both - Disney only and Disney/beach. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but a very bright side is NOT having to rent a car. I love that part of a Disney-only trip! Both our January trip and our Spring Break trip will be a mix, and I'm still crabby about the car rentals.

Speaking of dining plan, it's been ages since we used it. We use TIW instead. But now with two hungry teens and a 7-year-old whose dining plan is super inexpensive, I'm considering it for Easter Weekend. Our TIW will be blocked out on Easter Day, and we have three character meal ADRs in two days. Did you use the dining plan on your last trip with Magic Bands? If so, how did it go?

P.S. I made it the whole weekend without a resort change! Although I did change ADRs - cancelled Il Mulino and booked the Wave for the night before the marathon. Not confident about that change, but I'm giving up the pasta to stay close to Poly and get to sleep early. Any thoughts regarding the Wave?

We've had dinner 2x at Wave. First one was just after it opened and I thought it was good, second time, a couple of years ago our dinner was just o.k. So don't know if it's gone down or it was just the day. I like GF Cafe better. Added bonus is you can take monorail over & walk off dinner back to Poly!

:yay: Welcome back!! Glad you enjoyed your trip! One day I'll get to go to WDW when decorations are up. I'd love to go early Dec. but working in a school, just not possible. But.... 45 days till semester break and ️POR :goodvibes

I found that it went well. Before you order the waiter/waitress will ask if you have the dining plan. If so they will scan your magic band and determine which plan you have. They then will go over what is/isn't included in the plan. The only problem I found was that if we didn't want to use the plan (pay OOP) then sometimes they (the CM) got confused.

I'm exciting to be using the QSDP. It allows us to not have to buy breakfast separately and we can pay OOP for sit down meals without having to buy dessert.

Hello, my RC friends! Sorry to be so scarce - life is just strolling by lately!
Packers come tomorrow, then it gets created and sets sail. Disney is in 10 days but I am so overwhelmed with sorting and downsizing and stressing it doesn't seem that close... I am betting it will hit hard this weekend when the house is empty!!!

I hope everyone is well!
Wookie, glad trip went well!
GG - have fun!
Familiar friends -
New faces - :welcome:! I hope you find your perfect resort fit!

Have a great hump day!

Dimd - Wow, your plate is definitely filled to the max! How are you feeling about the move? Disney will be nice for a little while amongst all of this. How are the girls feeling about it?

It's a lot going on but the nice thing is that by this time tomorrow, we're just ready to set back and enjoy -- stuff is packed and what we have is what we have. Not to mention I can finally focus on Disney!

DD7 is up and down about it all - excited for the adventure, sad to leave friends, ready for something new, but used to Maryland. DD1 is not a fan of people touching her toys -- she has been chasing stuff around the house hiding it -- but she is always such a positive kiddo that she's taking it in stride. I think the dogs are more stressed than anyone.

I'm more concerned now about living out of a suitcase for 6 weeks, but that's part of the fun... right? :rotfl:

Good luck with everything! Wonderful that your trip is so close. :)

We're trying to RC for my parents - switching them from POFQ to join us in Poly GV CL as a gift. By the time I went to make the change, the discounted Poly GV CL room was gone. Boo.

Done! Thanks to an amazing thread entitled "Has Anyone Done This?" Moved my parents to Poly GV CL for their last night!

Any advice from people that have stayed there???

Mom and I are still talking about our poly trip. It was AWESOME:woohoo:

She loved coffee made in the morning, the tree and decorations in the lounge, and the great food offerings. Oh and the view was amazing she said:goodvibes

So happy to hear more about your trip with your mom! Just upgraded my parents from POFQ to Poly CL for their last night and I'm so excited for them to join us in Hawaii!! (I think it's the most excited I've ever been for a resort change!)

Funny about WL CL! We always seem to be in the same zone here. We've stayed at WL before, but never CL and our first-ever WL CL stay will be at the end of March! So once again, can't wait to hear your report. :)

Love WL, but haven't tried their CL. Guess you'll have to look up Heathers TR for pics!! She has some good ones!
