As paying customers - we deserve better.

Wow you people are easily offended. And may I add, rude. If I must explain again, I posted this thread in order to voice an alternate opinion and get a better idea of the general attitude towards these issues. Instead of thought-provoking replies I received personal attacks -- Thanks so much for the help. Next time, try using some manners.

Did you post another thread on the Disney boards talking about the price gouging there? I'd be interested in the difference in responses.

If you have problem with crowds, that is why Universal stays open until 10pm this time of year, and 6pm at other times... :moped:

If you are doing a paper you must research the queuing theory. WDW has made it a science but Universal took it beyond that with hotel express. As a transportation engineer I have studied pedestrian characteristics and the queuing theory and am able to experience both WDW and USO on their peak days without express. Its not as much "commando" as timing.
With an annual pass I have gone to the park without spending a cent.
Knowledge is $!

I didn't attack you. Instead I posted my web pages with money saving ideas. It can be done, but it involves planning ahead, arriving early, and some extra walking. I hope you put some of my tips in your paper.

You say we are "rude" what about your rudeness by coming on here and telling lies?

No one is required to buy express pass. There are several non paying ways to avoid the lines.
1 go at a slow time
2 use the free express passes
3 arrive early and hit the high demand attractions then.

There are many healthy food options available in the parks. Just because you did not chose them, doesn't' mean they do not exist.

Before calling us rude, perhaps you should examine your post, and the fact that you created your account for what appears to be the sole purpose of attacking IOA on a board full of fans of IOA.
What if I walked into your University and said, this school stinks, the food is bad and the tuition is too high. Would everyone greet me with open arms?

First I have to say that when we went down to Universal last 4th of July week it was PACKED!!!!! But because we stayed on-site at the Hard Rock Hotel, we were able to go to the Front Of The Line with our on-site express pass privilige. If Universal did not offer that perk, we would not have gone at that time of year. I can also say if looks could kill, we'd be dead a thousand times. People who are waiting on line for an hour do not look kindly upon those with an express pass. But that's why we paid $250 a night at the Hard Rock Hotel!

Also, if you would like to look into how badly Corporate America treats people, maybe you can interview those poor souls who HAVE TO WORK HOLIDAYS BECAUSE STORES INSIST ON STAYING OPEN!!!!

It amazes me - it truly does - how KMart, supermarkets, movie theaters, etc. can Open on a holiday such as Christmas or Easter.
I don't want to hear the slandering remarks about how not everyone is a Christian, ( I realize that, I'm from NYC and we've got every religion here) but if Non-Christians really took a look at it, too, they would realize it's Not a violation of their civil rights to Not work on a holiday (Imagine, No, you cannot make me Not Work because it is Easter, I'm not Catholic!),
but it would be an actual day off to relax at home, read a book, watch television, get your photographs in those albums you've been wanting to do, waste time playing video games or play on the internet...........

Heck, our school district is off for a week in April starting with the day after Passover. I'm not Jewish, but you won't hear me balking about my kids having a week off from school because we're Catholic and we don't celebrate Passover! That is time that we will be spending as a family and we gladly accept it.

If someone is telling me to take the day off, you don't have to ask me twice! And if some poor mother or father NEEDS that day to work to make extra money, I also realize that, but down the line, is it really worth it? Corporate America is sooooo taking advantage of their employees it is disgusting.

When I initially saw the Universal Studios advertisements on TV about working and working and never taking a vacation, I had to laugh, it was so funny!
But it is absolutely TRUE. In other parts of the world, people get Much More vacation time than we do here. I know MANY people that NEVER take a vacation, and I work with some who never do! You should see the look I got at the last meeting when my boss was trying to figure out when to schedule the next meeting and my co-workers heard I was going away. It is a Shame. You are only on this Earth once and you should have a good time while you are here.
Me, my family and some of my friends do not patronize ANY store on a holiday where those employees should be home relaxing with their family. I also ask any reader of this post Not to patronize any store on any national holiday such as Thanksgiving or Christmas or Easter, even if you do not celebrate those holidays. If no one goes to the stores, then the stores will have no reason to stay open.

Sorry it's off-topic, but when you think about it, it's the same thing - different company.

Talking about working holidays, my two sons were working on July 4th when you went to the parks. They also both worked yesterday on Easter, Thanksgiving, and also on Christmas. We celebrate on days other than the actual holidays. They can ask off but we decided that we could just have our Christmas on Dec. 26, Thanksgiving the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and celebrated Easter on Saturday so that they could be there for all the people who want to be at the park on a holiday. Helping families have a wonderful vacation is part of the holiday spirit.

I understand your viewpoint, but these mega-corporations are called "corporations" for a reason. Neither Universal or Disney are in it for their health, they're in the business of making money.

Like many other options in life, to patronize either theme park is a choice. Most people who do their research already know and understand what expenses they're taking on by visiting the parks and then determine what they're willing to sacrifice to do so.

I dare say that many shareholders would be quite upset if these corporations took your advice and made irresponsible financial decisions as a result.

With all due respect, you need to study the concepts of supply and demand, as well as trickle-down economics, to truly pen a well-written paper with fact-based commentaries. One would be led to believe, based on your posts, that you have no understanding of either concept.

Yes, your comments ARE naive. Perhaps you may want to consider studying your own college/university first. I think that you will find many examples of the very things that you're aggravated by under your own nose and within your own circle of influence.

I know that I certainly wasn't rude in MY post, because I simply offered constructive critism - which you requested.

However... Perhaps people responded to your post in a rude manner because A) you posted in a deliberately inflammatory manner obviously to elicit a specific response - which you admitted, an action that many would consider to be manipulative games; and B) they became frustrated that an individual in higher education appears to be so uneducated in basic economic facts, yet you're writing a paper that should be based on economic theory in order to properly convey your point(s).

Not only did you ask for these responses, you purposefully instigated them.

Wow, this topic was kinda shocking. I have more people complain about Disney on a daily basis at my work than Universal. People are usually coming to see me the day after they went to Universal and telling me how great it was and how much they wish they had done it earlier.

ok if they lowered the prices on the front of the line thing every1 will get it and the lines will be longer so thats the way it goes

Why are most of these posts jumping on the O-Poster and why are they giving a comparison to Disney... So what if Disney does or dosen't do the same thing... that had nothing to do with the OP's post! Give he/she a break, they are new on the boards. He/she is doing a paper on "their" findings not yours! I would like to welcome the OPoster to the boards. I would also like to tell him that not everyone judges a book by its cover. Welcome to the DIS boards.... :wave2: and just to add my 2 cents... I don't like the fact that they "charge" for a FOTL pass... staying on site, yes ... I can see that (that is just an onsite perk). Charging fora booklet is another thing. I personally don't have the money for me & my family to purchase these each time we go. We are passholders & go often. I utilize the free express pass.

That's not the case. The OP admitted that this post was created in a sensational/manipulative manner for the sole purpose of eliciting strong responses from posters so that she could use those responses to write a paper. Other boards would refer to this as a "Troll."

No college or university would allow students to get opinions from a message board and then use those results in a paper. Not only would those results be skewed according to the manner in which the opinions were solicited, the information is totally unreliable because of the anonymity of the posters. Message boards contain false information and would never be used in a respectable study. Students need to use published reports that can be documented in their bibliography. If we give the OP the benefit of the doubt, that they are simply looking for ideas, then he/she should also be looking at commercialism at other theme parks, not simply Universal, hence the references to Disney. Disney's Magic Kingdom has a much, much higher attendance rate than Universal Orlando, yet their prices are the same. Disney's earnings are much greater. Still, the OP points his finger at Universal.

Universal is a business same as McDonalds, Sears, United Airlines, Red Lobster etc. They are not a charity institution, though all theme parks do a lot for disadvantaged kids and ill children to make their dreams come true. You can stay on site at any theme park, or choose not too, buy an Express Pass or choose to just use the free ones they offer, all up to you and your pocketbook. It is also private property so any theme park can so no outside food or whatever they do not want brought into their parks.

Me thinks a troll has escaped from the Norway Pavilion in World Showcase at Epcot and is just stirring up trouble on the Universal Board. ..... :badpc:
