Friday dawns hot and sunny like the day before. No Mickey wake-up call this morning though!
I was a little disappointed b/c when we arrived back at our hotel the night before, there was a message saying that the fireworks and spectro had been cancelled and the park would be closing at 7. Since we were leaving Saturday, it looked like we would not get to see the nighttime festivities at the MK
Our plan was to drive to MGM, spend the morning there, and then head over to the MK because we had heard (from a CM at the Country Bear Jamboree!) that there was going to be a sneak preview of the new parade at 3PM. And, because Greg had made "secret plans" for tonight that involved being at the Polynesian at 8:15PM. I was a little curious, also a little suspicious....but what could he possibly have up his sleeve? we hadn't looked at rings. Did he even know what size I was? How could he have hid it all this time?? Nahhh...can't be.
MGM is slightly more crowded than the other parks have been, but we still walk on everything. Started with ToT...Greg likes it, as he cries, "Again, again!" (such a cutie). Another disappointment, though--RnR is down for refurbishment
I thought I had checked before we left and it wasn't supposed to be down, but nonetheless, it's all boarded off. So we head to Muppetvision 3D. I found the key under the mat for the first time!!!! (tip from the board, of course!) That's my favorite MGM attraction. Saw Indiana Jones b/c we happened to be walking by at the right time. Not impressed. Went on Star Tours. They were only running one vehicle, so we actually waited about 15 minutes. Greg, an avid Star Wars fan, was disappointed. I think those fake-motion movie rides are just getting old. Rode the Great Movie Ride, then had some lunch at Rosie's. Decided to head over to the MK, as it was already after 1PM. We parked at TnT, waited a good 15 minutes for a tram (could have walked, I guess, but by the third day, we're looking for all the free rides we can get!!!) We get juice bars and pull up a spot for the parade. (Right across from Diamond Horseshoe Saloon--in the shade!) We have to wait about 45 minutes. We comment on how the park is quite a bit more crowded today.
The parade begins. It was exciting to see a new parade (tired of remembering and remembering and remembering the magic!) but I sort of thought it was a tiny bit on the cheesy side. Also, there wasn't much in the way of a melody. But, it was cute nonetheless. After the parade, we visited the Tiki Room (Just don't like that revision...particularly the scary Tiki goddess who comes up where there used to be a pretty fountain!) Decided to go on Splash Mtn again--waited a little longer, got a LOT wetter! Then we zip over to Tomorrowland, hit Buzz Lightyear again. Greg still beats me by a large margin. Space Mountain has a 45 minute wait, so we skip it and head to Main St. THe emporium was a little busy, but we manage to get some postcards (to send from the airport tomorrow--oops!) and a photo album. big souvenier shopping for family and friends will be done at DTD tomorrow!
By now, we're getting hungry for dinner, so we take the monorail over to the Poly. It has started raining, but in that weird Florida way, where it's raining on you, but you can see the sun over other parts of the resort. Decided to try the Kona Cafe. It's empty. I think we were our waitress's only table. Then we have about an hour to kill before Greg's secret plans start! So we walk around the grounds, check out the new pool, head up to Sunset Point for a romantic view of the castle (it's not raining anymore). Rock in a hammock for a little while. Realize that...hmmm...it's getting sort of black out. And is that thunder I hear? Greg says that his plans involve an outdoor activity, and we should go see if it's still on. We walk over to the marina and he talks to the CM working there. It turns out that the big plans were a fireworks cruise!!!! Poor Greg! Now not only had the fireworks already been cancelled, but the weather was wrecking plans for going out at all! The CM said we probably couldn't go out for very long, so Greg opted to cancel. She refunded his money. He then turned to me and said, "Okay, well, let's move on to part two of the evening". He took my hand and walked me back over to Sunset Point. It's not raining yet, but there's thunder and lightening all around! He pulls a piece of paper out of his pocket, unfolds it, and starts reading....it's a poem, as well as some memories. I of course know what's going on by now, and I"m crying. His voice is shaking. He is trying so hard to read in the dark that he forgets to get down on one knee (his major regret--he wants to "do it over") as he opens a ring box and asks me to marry him!!!!
He puts the ring on my finger--it's too big, but it's wearable for tonight! Then we pick up a bottle of champagne at the sundries shop, get on the monorail and head back to TnT. We get off at the MK despite it being after hours, hoping maybe we can get a security guard to take a picture of us in front of the castle. People were still dribbling out, but the guard said he couldn't let us back on Main St. He did let us back in the gates, though, and took our photo in front of the train station. It's far away, it's dark, and you can't see my ring, but you sure can see the big smiles on our faces!
Went back to our hotel and turned on the radio. The benefit for the NYC tragedy was being aired, and we slow danced to billy Joel singing "New York State of Mind" (okay, it was the only station we could tune in!) and then toasted our engagement with champagne.
I thought the excitement of getting engaged would prevent me from falling asleep, but...another day of WDW touring had made me so tired that I had no trouble at all!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!
