Artist's Point

Just got back from the WL. DW and I had a romantic dinner for 2 last Saturday at Artist's Point while the kiddoes were in the Cubs Den. It was definitely worth the cost (2TS for a value of $151). Our waiter, David, was outstanding and very helpful. He recommended NOT doing the wine flight unless you just want a sample of 3 or 4 wines. It is more cost effective (and you get more wine) to either get a bottle, 1/2 bottle, or couple of glasses of wine each.

We had the smoky Portobello soup and mussels, buffalo steak and salmon, coffee two ways and Hazelnut chocolate torte. All of it was outstanding. The Copper River Salmon, which is only available 3 weeks a year, was remarkable. The Coffee two ways was our preferred dessert.

As for the ice wines, we actually tried a couple. Veeeerrrry sweet and tasty.

As for kids, that is our only sticking point. We would have preferred an adults-only venue, but that is not Disney's way. We were surprised to see so many kids considering how expensive the restaurant is. Most kids were quiet and behaved, but the family seated next to us had two boys about 8 or 9 who were loud, played video games during supper, and generally misbehaved. The dad was too busy using crayons to color a picture to correct them and the mom ignored them. When they finally left, our waiter apologized profusely and said he had tried to get us moved to another of his tables but couldn't. He gave a free glass of ice wine to compensate. Then the manager was setting the table next to us and shattered a glass, so he gave us two glasses of ice wine. We never complained to them and appreciated the extra attempts to improve our meal.

Please, please, please - if you bring kids to AP, make sure everyone dresses up a bit and that they are well-behaved.

Oh, the cost for the bottle of wine and extra tip for the waiter ran about $85.

We've been wanting to visit this restaurant for awhile. May I ask those of you who have been to Artist's Point how "kid-friendly" it is? I have a 3 and 6 year old who are pretty well-behaved.....depending on the day. Is it very quiet in there? I saw they have a cool menu / dessert for kids. Anyone take their little ones there?

On a recent trip which included dinners at Jiko, BlueZoo, Citrico's and Artist Point, AP was the least crowded and had the fewest children there. As a result, the restaurant was quieter than the others listed.

That being said, kids are more than welcome there. I have taken my own children there several times and they liked it very much. It is just a matter of making sure than they behave in an appropriate manner for the surroundings (or removing them if they do not).

I'm impressed at the extra effort they put into compensating for rude guests! You can have loud children or totally obnoxious adults seating next to you at the finest restaurants that can totally destroy a great meal. I think they went the extra mile & that's always a good thing!

I will add my 2 cents - have eaten there 12 times and we almost always consider it our top restaurant at WDW.
IF you like meat and seafood as we do then you just HAVE to order the Grilled Buffalo Steak. It is just about the best cut of meat I have ever had next to a Filet Mignon. I mean, you can get the regular meats anywhere. I was VERY skeptical of trying this meat but, OMG, it was awesome.

Secondly, the Venison spring rolls are awesome as well as the Mushroom soup and the Berry Cobbler for dessert.

The field green salad, I will say, is dry and not worth it...so have something else.......
This retaurant gives you the opportunity to try a few different but no to crazy types of meals and you will love it.
The service - best in WDW - hands down
Get on the sunrise/sunset table - find out when sunset is and make the reservation and request a window seat looking out over the courtyard - or better yet, request to sit on the patio.........very romantic.....trust me...

Enjoy!

You don't say whether or not you will have kids with you. I loved the food and would definately go again, but would probably go without the children. It is the kind of place that you want ot savor a nice meal with some good wine. My children (8, 6 and 2 at the time) although very good with sit-down meals wanted to get out of there quickly.

Boy do I feel bad being the only one with something negative to say about this place, but after 2 tries, I'll never go back. It is a beautiful place, always quiet and never too full....but then you have to wonder why is this the only place that's not full?
On both times that I ate here, my husband and I had to send back one entree because it was way over cooked. Service was slow and cold, most unfriendly place in Disney.
I've eaten at all the other "signature" restaurants and been very happy with all of them. Artist Point just doesn't measure up in my opinion.

To each their own...I'll never go back to the zoo known as "California Grill." AP however (along with Flying Fish) has become a must-do for us on each trip.
