Artist Point? Your comments please!

We ate at Artist's Point when we were at WDW for our annual trip the week before last. We always stay at the Wilderness Lodge, but this was our first time at Artist's Point. I can tell you it was hands down the best meal we had this trip. And, one of our favorites ever at WDW and we've been going to WDW forever. I had the beef tenderloin and my husband had the salmon. I chose the mushroom risotto for my side and it was so delicious I emailed the manager for the recipe (still waiting to hear back, though). We both had the berry cobbler with homemade raspberry ice cream for dessert. It was scrumptious...there must have been a pint of berries on each dessert. My husband had a wonderful glass of wine (I think it was the one recommended with the salmon), and, if you're a coffee drinker....EUREKA...they have real coffee there. The children's menu was wonderful, too. Our son actually slept through the meal, but our server offered to package a meal to go for him. Speaking of our server, she was professional, gracious and very knowledgeable and we felt very welcome there with our son. The dining room is relaxing and peaceful, too, much like the rest of the Wilderness Lodge. We also had a call the next day from the manager asking how our meal was. All in all, it was a fantastic experience. One word of advice, the dress there is business casual. We went on our "off" day (the day we hang out at the pool and don't go into the parks). We wore golf shirts and capris for me, golf shorts for my husband. We were quite comfortable, but there were other diners around us dressed much more formally...dresses for the women and sport coats for the men. So, if you do decide to dine there, bring something appropriate. I can't imagine them turning someone away, but you never know, I guess.

Please, go and enjoy. You'll be doing it for all the rest of us who wish we were there right now. :goodvibes

Here is a menu from 3 days ago (sorry about pic, no flash used!), there wasn't a fixed price option available.

For the record, I really like Artist Point for it's starters and entrees, but I've always been disappointed with their desserts which are very limited and never seem to be a 'signature' dessert to me when compared to what the other signature restuarants offer. Shame they didn't have the aforementioned creme brulee on the menu this time as that would have been nice, I had the cobbler this trip which was ok but nothing amazing, and my fiancee had the fig and goats cheese tart which was better than I thought it would be.

Wonderful! That's about the only thing I can say about Artists Point.

The mussels are absolutely divine. My sister and I have gotten them both times we've eaten there and we dream about them. Everything else we've had there has been fantastic, as well, but we really could just make a meal out of the bread and mussels.

I agree with other posters about their dessert selection. It's a bit limited and seems fairly standard across the disney menu. There's always something chocolate, some kind of creme brulee, some kind of fruit dessert, etc. Saying that, the rosemary creme brulee at Artists Point seems to have something special about compared to other brulees you'll find at disney. The cobbler is also yummy.

As long as your kids are well behaved and can stay semi-quiet, there should be no problem bringing them. We've never had any problems with kids sitting around us and being too noisy. It's a pretty quiet venue for Disney.

Oh man I'd love to be a PR person for AP or Disney in general, I thoroughly irritate people with how much I talk about it, I can find a way to bring up Disney in almost every conversation, and I bring up Artists Point at least once a week. I'm a sick gal.

Artist Point is currently my least favorite signature restaurant, but it's still really good.

These posts are making me very excited. DH and I are going to WL in Jan for a resort only vacation and we will be spending our first night at Artist's Point. Can't wait to try all the recommended dishes. We may have to go back twice to get a taste of everything!

Just went there 2 weeks ago and was pleased to see they brought back the Buffalo Sirloin that so many people rave about. Paired that with the Smoky Portobello Soup (enjoyed more then even Le Celliers cheese soup). Unfortunately I selected the wrong dessert Double Chocolate Cheesecake, which was just too heavy to finish the meal, but my wife selected the Artist Point Cobbler which is perfect!

Definitely a great meal, and on the must-do list each trip! :cool1:

If you have dined at Artist Point, would you do so again, and if not why?
2 adults no kids. slightly ambitious eaters and slight foodies.

any and all opinions welcome:goodvibes

Most definitely - especially 2 adults. I've always found AP to be a little on the quieter side. And they don't cram a bunch of tables all close together.

I don't recall the menu being all that "ambitious" though. But I enjoyed the buffalo sirloin I had, which I guess is kind of different. I couldn't tell any difference between it and beef though (which was good for me).

And it's not that there aren't children there. Last time I was there the next table was a father and daughter who looked to be around 9-10.

I'm a picky eater, so I liked the menu, it's different without being weird, so to speak. And yes buffalo is pretty much beef, but it has less fat and cholesterol. The fat is part of the reason you can't cook it as long, because there's not enough to keep it moist and un-tough past medium at the most. I find it to be just like a good piece of beef, but the flavor turned up just a notch. Also I don't mind a heavy meal, so doing the cheesecake after everything else was good for me. I figured if I was going to use 2 TS credits there, I was going all the way!!

I was on the DxDDP Sept 26th-Oct 4th, so dined at alot of the Signature Restaurants (Flying Fish, Yatchsman, Narcoosee, Citricos, California Grill, and Artist Point). Artist Point was the best meal of my entire trip. I had a virgin pina colava, mussels, buffalo sirloin strip, berry cobbler, and a glass of ice wine with my dessert. I was dining solo and had the best waitress. She just kept coming to check on me. The manager was also make rounds that night. He came by my table twice, asking if everything was satisfactory.

I've also eaten there a couple of other times and had the mushroom soup and salmon which were also very good.

We've dined there many times. The last time was a couple of months ago.

The smoky portabello soup was excellent as always.
We tried the buffalo for a change. Ordered it medium rare. Thought it was rather gamey. Couldn't touch a grain-fed, dry-aged beef steak. Wouldn't order it again.
The salmon is always outstanding.
The berry cobler is about 1/3 the size it used to be and costs more than ever -- no doubt because desserts are included in the DDP.

I think you just landed the job as PR person for AP. You just made me want to eat there.:thumbsup2
Is it really expensive?
Would you drag 2 kids (8+4) there?
Anyone can answer these please, thanks.

We took our kids (7 & 5 at the time) in March and they really enjoyed themselves. However, my kids love to dine in the upscale restaurants as much as their parents do. Their favorite thing about the restaurant was the dessert, even though they did enjoy their meal as well, they had the paint your own cookie dessert which was fun to watch them do.

To the OP, we too enjoyed our meal at AP. I had the seared scallops, which were heavenly, and my DH had the pork chops, which he thought were excellent. We were not even planning on dining here, but we decided (during our trip) that we would much rather go to a nicer restaurant then WCC for our last night, and since we were already staying at WL, we thought we would try out AP....and we are so glad that we did. We were thinking about going back again in December, but there were too many other restaurants that we wanted to try out first, but we will definitely be returning, I guarantee it :goodvibes
