Artificial sweetners - tell me your experiences please

Actually, chemicals are all natural if they are not man made. Chlorine is definitely all natural.

Yup, unless they came from the moon everthing is natural. Arsenic is all natural.

Do you drink soda? Wine? A lot of them have ethylene glycol in them....yup, automotive antifreeze.

Do you cook beef, pork, chicken and fish? Yup, what you are doing is unnaturally altering their chemical make up.

Is someone here saying they only want "natural?"

I hope you didn't think it was me because I eat all kinds of crap.

I was just clarifying that Splenda isn't what it was marketed as: as being very close to sugar. It was marketed that way and they company was sued of exaggerating claims of how it was made in order to make people feel better about using an "artificial" sweetener.

Believe me, I get nasty reactions to most "natural" things and am certainly on no high horse over that.

I also get headaches when I have any artificial sweetners and have diabetes in my family that worries me. I tend to use a small amount of real sugar versus the "fake" stuff. I have just adapted my tastes to like things less sweet.

I've tried all the sugar substitutes on the US market and a few on other markets that won't be seeing the US any time soon. The yellow, Splenda or it's generic equivalents are my preference.

I've tried the pink, I've tried the blue. But alas, the yellow is my choice. I just wish it was not the most expensive of the three options.

I am a pink girl all the way. Have been ever since I was 11 and I am now 47. No problems what so ever. In fact I can't stand the taste of sugar, it makes me sick, well unless we are talking about chocolate. I drink "Diet Coke,( I think that is Nutra Sweet) and I don't use Nutra Sweet in anything else. Can't stand Coke Zero. Tastes too much like regular coke.

Dr Oz did a segment today on Artificial Sweeteners. It was very interesting if you can watch it.

One evening my husbands face and hands went numb. He was told to cut back on the splenda - he did and all symptoms went away.

I don't use any artificial sweeteners as I don't like the taste at all and a little sugar has been fine for me so far.

I thought this was very interesting.

Can Artificial Sweeteners Cause Diabetes?Alan Greene said there are two ways that Artificial Sweeteners may be linked to Diabetes. One is through weight gain that Artificial Sweeteners can cause. The second is through insulin resistance that causes Diabetes. Artificial Sweeteners are like the ultimate “crying wolf” to your body that causes big spikes in insulin. When Gerbstadt counsels a Diabetes patient, she tells them that they can have 0-2 servings of Artificial Sweeteners a day and that they need to reset their tastebuds to appreciate the natural sweetness found in milk, vegetables and fruit. Dr Oz pointed out that a serving size of Artificial Sweetener is one packet.

Tomorrow morning I will try the agave and try to find the xylitol/ideal somewhere. I wonder if Wegmans or Shoprite carry it? As for me and my pitiful head, I am on my second dose of Fioricet with a migraine still poking through, definitely not the outcome I was hoping for from the Truvia:sad1:

It's always interesting to me when other people have weird physical reactions to stuff that's supposed to be Okey dokey like I do. I wonder what makes some people so very sensitive while others have zero issues :confused3. I really wish I was in the 'no worries' group, life would be so much easier.

I hear you there.. The artificial sweeteners posted about here cause severe stomach/intestinal issues for me - not to mention they taste horrible.. So, I use regular sugar..

My sister not only gets the headaches, but all kinds of other really weird reactions.. She uses rice milk in her tea or coffee and honey for her sweetener..

Hope your migraine is gone soon.. From one sufferer to another, they can be downright horrendous!

I've had no trouble with stevia which is the product Truvia uses. I get migraines and horrible stomach problems from aspartame and splenda. I also do not have trouble with saccharin which I have used when nothing else was available and I needed a sweetner.

I really do feel for those of you that have reactions to artificial sweeteners, but I don't and I just won't give up my saccharin, I love the taste and really just despise sugar in tea or coffee in fact sugar makes me physically ill.

My mom and dad used saccharin for probably 50 years and had no health problems from it up until the day they died at the ripe old age of 84 and 85. I know every Dr tells you to get off of it, but I won't. I eat extremely healthy other than that and I just love my Diet Coke. In fact like my DSIL once said, "I have given up everything that is bad for me, except my diet coke and they can pry it from my cold dead hand when the time comes." I feel the same way, but would never try and talk someone else into using it.

My mom has used saccharin all her life.. (She's 92 now - so at least we know it's not a "killer" - LOL..)

My DH is diabetic and we tried the artificial sweetner route and we just haven't found one that we like so we use sugar in moderation. I tried Splenda in some baking I did, you know, like they said cup for cup but ended up with some strange looking cookies. They tasted okay but they didn't bake correctly. My DH also found that food didn't taste nearly as good while using the artificial stuff so he was eating more.
