This thread is about cruising and the war, and modifications the industry is making -- with one sentence about the French side of St. Maarten. Where the assumptions that *any* poster does not support the US troops came from is baffling.
Three Circles says he has no issue with the French, that he respects countries who spoke with their own voice (which, taken literally includes the US -- the US is speaking with its own voice), and the whole thread veers into a thumping for being disrespectful or disgraceful for excercising his right to choice of where he travels.
Must *every* thread feature only variations on the same theme? (and yes, I've been spending time reading the community and debate boards, so my antennae may be overly tuned).
Getting back to the original post, it's an interesting article. We're not cancelling our vacation. There is no better deal for our trip now than the early booking price we received last year. In a post almost a month ago, I suggested that some Americans on our cruise would boycott the French side of St. Maarten, which is not surprising given the mood of the times. Those who choose to avoid the French side have every right to. Those who choose to visit have an equal right. Frankly, my bigger traveling concern right now is SARS rather than terrorists, and my bigger cruise concern would be dinner tablemates who turn any or every comment into a political debate.
