However I never thought twice about going to the french side of St. Martin... to me it is not like going to france. They are very dependant on tourists do I would feel completely safe there.

Very interesting article!

One thing to keep in mind though. Not all U.S. citizens denounce the French position on the war. I commend all countries, France included, that stood their ground and speak with their own voice.

I agree that it was a very interesting article. I also agree with you that "not all denounce the French position". However, I think the point of the article was that most do. I hope you find some good deals on a trip to France this year. You might be one fo the few American's over there. For the majority of the rest of us a good American vacation sounds very good indeed. Like a good Disney cruise. The article also made it sound like there would be some good deals because of the war. However, in my calling Disney for the Disney cruise the war has not lowered Disney prices in any way and the ships still seem to be filling up. Best to you.

BUT.. in my opinion people that do not support our troups 100 percent as they risk their lives for us should go and move to france or Iraq or wherever they feel their beliefs are shared! America is based on the right to free speach but I find it so disrespectfull and disgraceful to not be behind our troups! We had 400 prostesters here in Northampton the other night - 24 were arrested- how disgraceful!( I think more should have been!) There are several bases near our home with so many families worrying about their loved ones, what is the point of the protest- did they think that the troups would just give up and go home? If you feel the need to protest the time to do it is BEFORE lives are at risk after that it is in my opinion a slap in the face to not support them! getting down off my soap box now- still waving my flag!

Actually, I'm not visiting France in the foreseeable future. I am booked on the May 3, 2003 Eastern - Magic sailing, however. I'm quite excited to travel to the French side of St. Martin though. The article mentions that many Americans might decide not to do so because of the French war position.

Our May 3rd cruise was only $599! They said this was a Florida Resident Special but I've sailed on DCL during another Florida Resident Special and only got the cost down to $799! Too good of a deal to pass up!

Huh? France signed off on all prior resolutions dealing with Iraq. When it finally came down to enforcing the "or else" pledges of all U.N. members, France opted to vote in favor of their national economic interests over world security issues. France chose to support a fascist regime which has used chemical weapons before, and still threatens to do so. France cares not for the terrorized Iraqi civilians who these religious-my-*** thugs use as human shields. France didn't lose over 3000 innocent civilians and several monumental buildings to an enemy likely supplied - and definitely supported - by the Iraq regime. France seems to have forgotten the atrocities of Nazi Germany and instead looks at the United States as if "we" deserved punishment for our prosperity. And this punishment = death to men and women (and any child unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time)going to work in the morning.

Do you know how the local police were able to surmise the indentity of many of the affected families here on Long Island? The "punished" victims' cars were never retreived from the various stations along the Long Island Railroad routes. For months not a weekend went by without too many funerals. Next month our local elementary school is having their second annual musical. Why? To raise money for a family whose husband/father perished in the World Trade Center. Did you read that? It is a local ELEMENTARY school - young children who don't understand what "we" did wrong but feel they must do something to help their classmate who now smiles all too infrequently.

How I do so what to curse! Darn it. I will never spend a cent on anything that has to do with France or the French and am sorry you feel the need to pursue bargains over ethics...

Sorry moderators. I know this isn't the debate board but I just couldn't allow that comment to go unanswered.

>>We had 400 prostesters here in Northampton the other night - 24 were arrested- how disgraceful!( I think more should have been!) >>

Ok, it sounds like your general position on the war and supporting the men and women who are risking their lives to protect us is similar to my own, however I really disliked the above statement. If 24 were arrested, most likely that is the number that was breaking the law. I hope that you're not implying that peaceful protestors should actually be locked up just for speaking out. As much as I dislike the war protests, the minute the protestors started being arrested without good legal reason, I would be out there protesting the arrests!

The protesters had what is called a "die in" the covered themselves in fake blood and lied in the middle of a busy intersection depicting as if a bomb had just struck them. This intersection was near an elementary school. So yes I do think more should have been arrested. They were not nicely marching with signs they were depicting graphic images that could effect young children. they were disrupting the flow of traffic keeping people from getting where they needed to be. When asked to move they refused.

lied in the middle of a busy intersection

Yes, it would be much better if they were truthful...

Is it "laid?" - or is that just plain obscene?

>>Is it "laid?" - or is that just plain obscene?<<

It's "lay." Yes, it's odd. "Lay" is the past tense of "lie" as well as being a completely separate verb in the present tense.

lie lay lain

lay laid laid

It's interesting how much you learn about your own language when taking foreign language linguistics courses.

You're right, this isn't the debate board.

And, as I said, I commend all countries, France included, that stood their ground and speak with their own voice.

I think sometimes people confuse supporting the war with support of our troops. While I'm not totally in favor of Bush's actions, I support our men and women over there and pray that they all come home safe and sound. My wife has already decorated our trees out front with yellow ribbons.

You're right, this isn't the debate board.

Perceptive.

And, as I said, I commend all countries, France included, that stood their ground and speak with their own voice.

Not perceptive, but ok. And, as I said, "sorry you feel the need to pursue bargains over ethics..."

So they can speak with their own voice...then I say let them defend their own country with their own troops. How dare they turn on America after everything we've done for them. And I'm not saying that other countries should be supporting us just because we need them....I'm saying that anyone who honestly believes that Iraq should not have been invaded is living in Disney Land because they don't have a firm grasp of reality!

Three Circles - I feel sad for you!

First of all I am sorry Michelle I tried not to reply but my fingers and key board made me. I am with AnnMorin and Buckaroo's Dad 100% on this one. I am proud that my DH is a Marine Officer and luckily one of the few left here in Jacksonville NC right now training Reservists in aircraft fires and bio terrorist attacks.

Realistically he will be joining his Unit soon. That being said, my subdivision is a sea of yellow ribbons. Wives sit by the TV's praying and wondering about their loved ones. Children in our military schools are acting out and are sleep deprived from worrying and bad dreams. But these same wive's and children are PROUD and so am I of their Husbands and Daddy's who are serving our country so that we can be safe and not be victim to a uncertain future filled with more terrorist attacks.

I actually received an email from a close friend of ours today a Master Seagent in the USMC asking if the people at home (USA) are really that against them and the troops are worried about the little they are hearing from home is all negative. That email broke my heart. I was also on Camp LeJeune today and was saddended at the piles of flowers, signs and make shift memorials which have been made for our fallen Marines. Husbands, Daddys, Wives and Mommies that are not coming home.

No one who has any sense would want to go to or be involved in a war but we are and we have no choice but to support our men and women. They did not have a choice to say no I won't go. They are doing their jobs and need to know we care and we ALL support them. War is never a good option but sometimes necessary to remove evil. Anyone who can watch video of what SH did to the Kurds in 98 or his reign of terror since the early 80's is a different breed than I.

Now my thoughts on the French have not changed. I never respected them before and I do not now. Yes, you may be glad or proud they stood their ground but it was not because they have a higher moral regard for life than we Americans. Their economic interests and traditional snobbery led them down the path they have followed.

I believe in freedom of speech for all who believe in and follow a democratic society but think about the message the protestor's including the under educated Hollywood "elite" are sending to our children and our troops.......

Just my thoughts and whomever wants to can take it to the debate board but I am opting out.

Support our Men and Women...............

DH and I were active duty Air Force (20 PLUS years) now both disabled veterans due to injuries incurred during the Vietnam "conflict" and we remember how most of the USA was not only against the "conflict" but against us as military. Unless you have had your own countrymen turn on you like vicious dogs, then you have no idea how it feels. So regardless of your position, remember these men and women took an OATH that meant something to them and they are upholding the freedoms that we have today and will have for tomorrow for our children.

I don't want to get up on my "high horse" but there is NO ONE who wants to be in a combat area unless they absolutely have to be.

We are against war - all war. But there is no way we would ever NOT support our country, our soldiers or the right to exercise your basic freedoms that we fought for - this includes "freedom of speech".

That does not include the protesters need to situate themselves in an area that young children are congregated or hamper the flow of traffic. We need some common sense here.

I am NOT going back on the debate board because there are some very meanspirited people there and I don't need their crap-o-la in my life!

(I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to be wrong.)
