U.S. Airlines Match Northwest's Fare Sale
CHICAGO (Reuters) - United Airlines and American Airlines, the two largest U.S. carriers, said on Monday they were matching fall fare sales launched by No. 4 Northwest Airlines. <NWAC.O>
United is a unit of UAL Corp. <UAL.N> and American is a unit of AMR Corp. <AMR.N>. US Airways Group <U.N> also matched on parts of its network but not the transatlantic service.
Tickets must be bought by Sept. 14 and are good for travel in coach class through Dec. 19. A 14-day advance purchase is required.
American said it will also offer 5 percent discounts if tickets are purchased through its aa.com web site. "Everything's the same," said spokesman John Hotard.
