Arthritis help

I take Tylenol arthritis at night. It helps some but not enough.

I have some osteo in my knees and fingers. I was on Vioxx prior to its removal. I tried going without and the pain returned after about a week or so. The doctor recommended Aleve (I use generic from Sam's or Costco) and it works fine.

Subsequent to the Vioxx and similar removal, I learned that the pain reducing properties of those VERY high priced Rx's are virtually the same as aspirin, Aleve, Tylenol and similar, except they did provide some ability as potential less stomach upset, if one was so affected. But the drug firms marketed them to the public as enhanced pain reducers, when in fact they were not. Amazing.

Also, big difference if OA or RA.

Good wishes with yours.

I taught an Arthritis water therapy class at a local gym. The people who came to my class swore that it was the best thing they did for their Arthritis. The classes focus on gentle stretching and range of motion exercises and are taught by intructors certified through the Arthritis Foundation. Check with you local YMCA if you're interested.

Heat helps DH and I more than anything else. We've both been on every prescription available with very little help at all. Sometimes the pain and stiffness gets sooo bad that I'll actually drink several *very stiff* drinks just to be able to sleep. Arthritis is no fun and not for weenies! :sad2:

Aleve and Tylenol Arthritis in rotation. Unfortunately I have to take up to 10 ALeve a day so with rotationg the tylenol arthritis I can get down to 6 a day.

I have both osteo and rheumatoid. I was on medication for the RA for several months but the cure turned out to be worse than the disease. I forget the name of the stuff but it was some sort of antibiotic that absolutely killed my stomach.

Mostly I just try to ignore it. Today's been pretty bad with sharp pains in my hands from time to time but the pain doesn't last long... just lets you know when it's there.

I've used aspirin and Tylenol (not together) with some results. By bedtime when everything is singing a sad song, I use Vicodin in very small amounts. It helps me get to sleep, stay asleep and wake up rested and with less pain than if I didn't take it. Getting quality rest is so important if you have to deal with pain on a daily basis.

The best thing I have ever taken that really helped was predisone. I can no longer take it, I was on it for over 3 yrs and it really wrecked my immune system. Vioxx was the next best thing :rolleyes2 Now I live on Prilosec and advil :confused3

Is Daypro over the counter or presp?

Daypro is a prescription. I used to take it years ago and it worked very well on me.

I have rheumatoid so I am on a lot of meds but if your pain is bad the dr. can prescribe a non-steroidal anti inflammatory such as Daypro, Naproxen etc. Aleve works well but my favorite is my heating pad. I have a moist heating pad and I swear it's better then anything. Wrapping the joints help sometimes too. Feel better soon!

I have osteo arthritis and when I absolutely have to I take celebrex which works for me. The OTC's do not work very well.

What type of arthritis do you have? That makes a big difference. I have psoriatic which is an autoimmune arthritis. I'm on methotrexate and Enbrel and an occasional ALeve.

DW MeanLaureen has an autoimmune arthritis as well and is on quite a few pain killers. Right now Morphine, Vicodin, Neurontin and Salsalate on a daily basis with the occasional Duragesic patch and yearly spells of Methotrexate. Steroids were no help to her at all - same with Vioxx, Bextra etc. She can't take Aspirin or Ibuprofen due to a blood disorder and she gets maxed on Acetaminophen with the Vicodin so no OTC for her.

I have rheumatoid. I get remicade by IV every six weeks. It has really helped not only my joints but my energy level is much!!!! better. I have vicoden but I make sure to not take more than one a day if that (it helps my feet and ankles which are so stiff by mid afternoon) I also take prednisone (sp?) for flare ups but can't take that too often due to diabetes., but I find w/ the remicade every six weeks, I don't have as many flair ups now. Good luck and I hope you find something to keep you comfortable.
