I just found out Art the Greeter retired this week!
So sad to see him go, but we wish him all the best. He really brought aray of sunshine to the BC entrance. my kids loved being greated by him every time we came in :(

Enjoy retirement Mr The Greeter

Oh! It will be sad next time not to see his smiling face. :sad1:

But he so deserves much happiness after all the joy he has brought to others. I hope he is able to live out all his dreams. :yay:

Hopefully, they have someone ready to step up that has the same spirit as Art. :)

I'd first read about Art's retirement last week over on John's Adventures of the Purple Van thread......BC just won't be the same without Art :sad1: As my Dad likes to say about special people : ' they just don't make 'em like that anymore....salt of the earth '. Art truly is a lovely person ::yes:: and we wish him all the best.

:goodvibes

For anybody interested....Lou Mongello just did a video-cast interview with Art where he discusses his retirement and his love for his job. We watched it last night...I think it was posted yesterday.

Art didn't say when his last official day was, and I was wondering if we would see him in May when we stay at BC for the first time. Guess that probably isn't happening. Oh well, seems like he was quite the guy :thumbsup2

Now comes the bigger question... Who will replace this great entertainer?!
will they have some generic greeter, or no greeter at all?

I checked into BCV on 10/17. Not only was I lucky enough to get my picture taken with Art on his last day, I saw that they had a woman in his place the next day, dressed in almost identical attire (except she had a skirt instead of pants). So apparently the position was already filled (Rats! I was thinking of applying for it).

I don't think anyone can really replace Art the Greeter. He's one of a kind.

Big shoes to fill, really nice guy, will be missed by many.

We met Art once when we went to the Character Breakfast at the Beach Club. He was so happy and pleasant - truly perfect for the job. I hope Disney gave him a great send-off, he deserves it. One of the special people that gives Disney the magic

Here's a picture of him on his last day. The lei was a gift from a Hawaiin woman who came in shortly before I did. He had lots of fans visiting that day to wish him well-

Just found this when I noticed someone's siggy. (Been on a hiatus while working working working to pay off bills and then start saving!)

I can't believe I'm never going to get to see Art in action. :sad1:

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but when someone like Art Retires with a long service record to disney, does disney give them lifetime entrance to the parks? or any kind of compensation like that?

I am friends with Ranger Stan Moore who just retired at a similar position over at Wilderness Lodge. I speak with him by phone frequently so I will ask him this question and get back to you. He recently celebrated 20 yrs as a CM, 15 of those at WL.

I was fortunate to see Art on his last day. He had his camera and we had ours and both of us took the opportunity to get that last picture together. When we got to the Beach Club on Wednesday he told us that his last day was on Saturday so on Saturday we took those pictures and said our good byes. The next two weeks of our stay seem to be missing something, a little of the “magic” had retired. He told me he would like to go on a cruse or two.
For those who wish can get Arts address and phone number from then Beach Club desk.

Teena was greeting last week; she told me that Art had gone on a Disney cruise; I hope he had a great time. :)
