Arriving in 2 days MAXPASS questions

Hello. We are arriving in 2 days and are confused about some aspects of MaxPass. We are a family of 5: Myself, my wife and 3 kids 17,13,11. We have already purchased tickets and have linked all 5 of them to my Disneyland app. We all have smart phones. When we arrive on Friday, I plan to purchase MaxPass for the five of us upon entry to DL.

When I book a FastPass for our group of 5, do I have to scan 5 barcodes all from my phone while in the FastPass line? Or should each family member set up their own Disney account through the DL app and they each scan from their phones? If they do that is there a way to link them to the MaxPass that I purchased?

I hope those questions make sense.

You can do either. All 5 will show on your phone and you can use only those. If they want to have their own accounts, it will show there too and they can scan them from their phone. I kind of like to take a screen shot of my phone FPs then I can just show the images and not have to drill into the app to get to the FPs.

It would be quicker for just one of you to scan everyone if you are using the app to scan. You open the FP up on the app and then scan one ticket, swipe and scan the next, swipe and scan...

Very easy.
 

Just make sure that whether you scan everyone's ticket on your phone or their physical ticket or whether everyone scans for themselves, choose your scanner and don't block the others so that other guests can keep the FP lines moving. Once you scan, move ahead in the line. Some groups spread out across all the scanners and effectively block everyone else from moving forward. Also be aware that some lines have multiple scanners, so be prepared for that.

It's much easier and faster to scan physical tickets than it is to scan off your phone.

We were there two weeks ago, and every time there was a "clog" at the FP turnstiles, it was someone attempting to scan their ticket from their phone...most often a family attempting to tap through from one phone.

Not true for everyone, we were very fast scanning all 4 of our fast passes from our phone, we had the app open and the fast passes displayed before we approached the scanner and just swiped through each one and it was beep beep beep beep gone! However, I did see a lot of technology challenged folks trying to do the same thing - it reminded me of watching people try to go through a self check out aisle at the supermarket. People respond at varying rates to technology!
 
I was the Max/fast pass keeper for our family so would just swipe through- more often than not, I ended up with fast passes still on my phone as I would swipe and they didn't always come off.
