If one person drops the family off with luggage and goes to park the car, can the family go in and start the process? What kind of documentation would the driver need to get into the terminal and catch up with the family? I haven't on-line check in yet, so I'm not familiar with all the paperwork.

Well, you'll drop your luggage with the porters and then the person can drop of the car and join you.

You can definitely go ahead especially if you want a higher boarding card. You don't have to check in right when you get in.

drop off luggage/car
1st check point-they check your id against the cruise list
proceed to security check
given boarding card number (for embarkment)

when you go up, you can wait for your party (it should only be a few minutes) or if the lines are long, you can get in line and they can join you.

Whomever goes to park the car will need photo ID to get back into the terminal.

As musicgirl said, it's easy to have one person join you after you have gone into the terminal. Since they hand you your boarding number as you go up the escalator, it makes sense to have at least one member of the party go in as soon as possible. The one(s) joining only have to have their photo ID to get in, go through security and then take the escalator up to where everyone else is waiting. When all adults are present you can go up to the desk to check in. If there's a line, the rest of the party can be waiting while you are parking the car. If they get to the front of the line , they can just let those behind them continue to go until everyone is there.

My wife and kids wait on line to get into the terminal and I wait with the luggage. They start letting people in and accepting the luggage at about the same time. By the time I get the luggage to the porters my wife is inside. When you go to the gate they check your I.D against a list of names that they have. They check off each name as you enter. Then I meet my family inside.

Last week on the Magic I was able to do the entire process for DH while he took the car back. I had all of the paperwork already signed, and his passport. He didn't do anything in the terminal except show ID to get in, and then ID to board.

This is what hubby and I did also. He dropped me and the luggage, took the rental back. I was all checked in and ready to go before he got back on the rental car shuttle. Your hubby will need to keep his photo ID with him to get back into the terminal.

My SIL and I stood in line to check in each of our rooms. The rest of our party was scattered about the terminal checking everything out. My DH joined us after dropping off the car. Very easy check in process!

DH is planning on dropping us off at the port then returning the rental car. How far do we have to carry our luggage from the point where DH drops us off to where the luggage porters are? I am small, weak, and no Spring chicken and will be physically unable to lug my and his luggage very far.

When you get to the DCL gate tell the CM you are dropping luggage off and they will direct you to the curb where the baggage handlers are....make sure you tip them!!!

Your husband will be able to park right at the curb to unload your luggage from the car and the porters are right there to take it away...you won't have to do a thing!!! Actually the porters will even unload the luggage if you want so your hubby does not have to do it.

how far away is the parking area from the terminal,as we are driving own vehicle to port. no rental car involved.do you have to pay for parking in advance?

Hello!

I read somewhere that you can just park your car in the lot first where there are 'white' tents to drop your luggage off. This way everyone stays together. The luggage gets taken care of and you all enter the registration building together.

Is this true?

Thanks:banana:   :cool1:

I remember about 2 years ago them having the white tent in the parking lot for luggage collection, but not sure if it is still there.....when we parked at the port last time we just pulled up to the curb, unloaded the luggage with the porters and hubby went and parked the car....we met him inside. Very easy!

Two weeks ago today :sad1: we did the same thing as mom2grace. DH dropped us off at the terminal, I checked us in using everyone's passport and DH met us at the terminal. He had to do nothing once he got to the top check-in floor. I had the KTTW cards, Castaway Club lanyards and a map of the ship in hand ready to go.

I did keep my "2" boarding card - maybe I can use it for next time....
