On the day we arrive, we plan to go to the MK for half of the day. Can you leave luggage at our hotel? How do you get your card to enter the park? Is there a time that we would need to be back to the hotel to pick up our luggage?

Yes, you can drop your luggage at your Disney resort, and you can pick it up whenever you come back for the night from bell services. They'll give you a claim ticket you'll want to photograph in case you lose it, but you take it with you.

Link your tickets to your account beforehand, and they should be available via the mobile app to scan at the park entrance; no physical card needed. (Your mobile app is also how you'd link the tickets to Magicbands if anybody in your party has them.)

Yes you can drop your luggage off at bell services and pick them back up.

Personally not a fan of using my phone so I'd suggest going to the front desk and getting a key to the world card.

FYI your room may be ready when you arrive so you could possibly just take your luggage to your room instead of having to do that later when you're tired.

Just a reminder you can also head to a water park. The free water park day is only available on checkin day. Save a park day and then head to Disney Springs or enjoy your resort in the evening.
