Arrival night hotel by MCO and Supershuttle question

Hi all,

I have been lurking a lot, trying to figure out what I'm doing. :dog2: So far, I have the newer Hampton in (Gateway Village) booked for the night we are arriving as our flight is due at 10:30 at night. The hotel has a free shuttle from the airport. Here's where I am hoping for some help. We stay at Shades of Green, so we can't use Magical Express to get to our resort. I plan to most likely use Supershuttle as I can generally get a good deal. It is cheaper for sure than renting a car. I am having problems with Supershuttle's site finding that Hampton Inn. I was thinking it may be cheaper to take the hotel shuttle back to the airport and catching SS from there. I can check Mears, too.

Does anyone have other suggestions for places to stay, ways to do this, or any other advice? This will be our 3rd trip to WDW. We live in AZ, so tend to go to Disneyland. I appreciate the help.

Most shared ride companies (Super Shuttle, Mears) do not serve any hotels adjacent to airports. The vast majority of people staying there only need transportation to and from the airport. As such, they will use the free shuttle provided by the hotel.

If you enter the address of the hotel as a starting point, you can get a price on both the Super Shuttle and Mears websites. But, the only options are private towncar/sedan/van services. Mears is $74.70 and Super Shuttle is $90.70. If you want to use a shared ride shuttle, you'll probably need to head back to the airport first.

It might be worth checking out the price of renting a car for 1 day. Alamo/National has three locations at Walt Disney World. You could pick up the car at the airport and stay at virtually any hotel you want that first night. Doing that lets you pick up snacks/supplies for your trip. The next day, drive to Shades of Green with all your luggage. Then, simply drop the car off at an Alamo/National location.

The closest Alamo/National location to Shades of Green is the Car Care Center. It's about 6-7 minutes away, near the parking area for Magic Kingdom. If you return there, they will transport you via shuttle bus back to Shades of Green or another Disney Resort (if desired).

Or, you can return the car to the Buena Vista Palace location, which is across the street from Disney Springs. Finally, you can use the location at the Walt Disney World Dolphin. From there, you can walk or take a boat to Epcot or Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Whether the car rental option makes sense will depend on the price. Sometimes 1-day car rentals can be $30; other times they can be $150.

Before you get in the shuttle ask if they are for the Hampton Inn (Gateway Village)

I'm glad I did . . because they were for another Hampton Inn / Embassy Suites

So far, car rental has been expensive, especially with different pick up and drop off points. We will keep looking. Uber is looking like a decent option. If all else fails, we can go back to MCO and pick up a shuttle. I may look at other hotels for arrival night, too.

Since you're booking at Shades of Green and are used to Disneyland, you may not know that guests staying at a Disney Resort get free airport transportation via Disney's Magical Express service. But, you might want to consider staying that first night at a Disney Resort.

The following day, you can move to Shades of Green. The Bell Staff provides free luggage transportation between Disney Resorts. I do not know if they will transfer it to Shades of Green. If they do, you can head off to a theme park or Disney Springs via Disney transportation and check in later at Shades of Green. If luggage transfer is not available, you could get a taxi ride for a small amount (like under $20).

You will still need to arrange for transportation from Shades of Green back to the airport. But, Mears Transportation (and probably Super Shuttle) can handle that for you.

I do know about Magical Express, but I never thought about staying one night at a WDW resort. That's a great idea.

Disney transportation won't get you to Shades of Green. Shades of Green has its own bus shuttle system that will get you the parks. But you can Uber over from a cheap night at a Value resort like Pop or the All-Stars.
