Arrival Day Ideas...

I'd really like to relax at the resort on our next trip. I'm actually thinking of doing a room only reservation so we can arrive a day early just to have that resort time.

My wife and I will always hit Disney Springs on our first day, regardless of what time we arrive. If for some reason we get to Disney by lunchtime, I'll take the opportunity to play some golf before meeting up with my wife again for nice dinner.

True. We have conference tickets, though through our agent. Can I still upgrade those for an additional day?

I have looked at crowd calendars, too, and the Sunday we arrive on looks super crowded.
No, I don't think those tickets are upgradable

You could hang out at the pool & plan to eat somewhere close by.

We have the ddp and have 2 QS that are not planned. I'm thinking it would be a great night to use one. Who knows where we will end up?!? I think I will let our moods dictate what we do and try to not stress over planning the afternoon. I think staying at the resort would be great but we also might like eating at another resort and maybe even watching fireworks somewhere. Thank you for all of your feedback!

Resort, swim, and eat is probably your best bet to be in bed by 11pm. The more adventurous option is to get dinner at one of the monorail resorts, and go around and stop at poly, contemporary, and grand floridian. You'd then go to the MK monorail stop, walk to the buses to take back to CBR - do this before park close though or there will be a crowd. This is cool if the kids would like sight seeing the resorts and don't mind a little walking, which seems to be a rare thing these days! lol!

If you have QS that aren't planned maybe hang out a bit at your resort and then go to DS . Puck Express and Cooke's have good food . We eat at both OOP.
