Does anyone know of a way around member services so that we can access Interval Internatioal for time shares on our own.

Thanks
Randy

if you mean make a reservation using DVC points for a II without going through MS - no can't be done

if you just want to know what resorts that II has - but MS won't let you make a reservation if it is not in their book

www.intervalworld.com

if you see something that you like but it isn't listed in the DVC book - then send an email to MS - also go see if someone on www.tug2.net
wants to trade with you.

As Spiceycat stated, there is no way to directly access II without using MS, but you can arrange your own trade directly with an owner of another timeshare. WWW.TUG2.Net is a good resource for that - another is www.tstoday.com (Timesharing Today).

Good Luck!

I've been at this from both angles. I've gone so far as to have a VC at II say you could add DVC. Even though I knew things wouldn't go through, I let them take all the registration info. Of course they eventually decide they couldn't. There are several problems. DVC has a contract with II. II only allows members from member resorts to join and in that sense, DVC resorts are not members.

What members give up with the current DVC setup is that they can only access certain resorts rather than the entire II resort directory. It also means we can't get bonus weeks (so called two for one exchanges), or access to cheap rentals. We also don't get the wish book or quarterly updates. OTOH, we have a cheaper exchange rate $75 vs $121 ($149 international), the ability to search first, the oportunity to be called when a match occurs then say yes or no and no yearly membership fees.

For the rare exchangers who does not own other II timeshare, this is the best option. For those of us that are also members of II and exchange regularly, it is a real disadvantage.

There is no way around this with II but there are other alternatives. There are a number of independent exchange companies and many are far easier to work with than II for those with top notch exchange options. In the case of San Francisco Exchange, they will usually give two for one that are much more useable than II but last I heard they wouldn't accept studios for Orlando.

I have already done the TUG exchanges and it works out very well. I got a Key West Hyatt 2 bedroom for only 150 points. Excellent trade in my opinion.

What I was really looking to capitalize on was the bonus weeks access to cheap rentals, the wish book and quarterly updates.

I think we all know the high exchange value of DVC, I want hoping to access II or RCI to maximize my resort options.

Dean - what did you mean about a disadvantage of exchaning and owning an II property?

I can lookup the other smaller exchanges on TUG. Other then II and RCI what are the best ones?

The disadvantage is for the II member who also owns DVC and can't use it the way they do the other weeks to exchange. No bonus weeks, not trade ups in unit size, limited resorts to exchange to and the like.

Fern Modeno's exchange listing. is the best list I've ever seen. As for the best, it depends on what you want, when you want it and the like. Overall it's likely SFX however they have a free membership and a pay membership and you lose some of the functions unless you do the pay membership. You can actually work with several of them at one time if you want while at the same time looking for something through DVC and for direct exchanges. If I had to pick one it'd be SFX because they are about the largest, specialize in the top quality resorts and give a very useful bonus week for many quality deposits. Others near the top of my list would be Donita's, Trading Places, Dial an Exchange and Platinum Interchange. Each excel in their own way so what's best depends on your situation and what you want. For HI it's SFX and TP and possible PI. For MX and Canada the same plus Donita's. For CA SFX and Donita's. For Australia and Euroe it's Dial an exchange.

I should have asked this question in the last post but here it is..

Do any of them that you know of, work with DVC owners?

If you're talking about the independent exchange companies, I think the answer is all of them. If there's no contractual reason not to like with RCI or II, why wouldn't they. If you ran one, wouldn't you?
