So...there's a family of 8 going to Disney in April before their cruise—grandfather, two grown children and spouses plus three grandkids all 3-9. Grandfather is military AND Florida resident.

I’m trying to remember, but I think grandfather HAS to use one of the AFS tickets, right? So, he couldn’t purchase 6 AFS tickets and two FLR tickets (thinking one for him and one for a kid), right?

No one else is FLR besides grandfather. Best option to use the six AFS tickets for the five adults and one child and then buy two child tickets?

FWIW, they're going for two days and don't need to park hop.

I know he has to activate the AFS tickets, but I don't know if he has to use one himself since he will be with everyone using them. I would call the ticket desk at Shades of Green, tell them the situation, and ask.

yes he must use one of the Salute to Heroes tickets himself.. the promotion is for the SM and up to 5 friends/family. if the SM is not going to be there, the spouse may only purchase 5 tickets

technically the FLR tickets are only for Florida residents.. so if the kids do not reside in FL, then they may not allow Gramps to buy them using that rate/discount

Yes, he has to use an armed forces salute ticket for himself. He should purchase all of the adults the armed forces salute tickets (and one child) because he can use his Florida resident discount towards the two other grandchildren under age 9.

Yes, he MUST use one military ticket on himself. The rules don't allow you to use all of them for others. They do come with park hopping, though. 4 days.

I thought about that. That's OK to do? He just needs to show proof of FL residency, right?

Thanks for the info. I thought spouses could get 6 tix if the serviceperson wasn't there. We don't use those most trips because we stay longer than the 4 days so I haven't learned a lot about how they work other than the 6 a year limit.

Yes, it is allowed for a FL resident to use their driver's license number for a minor child's ticket. In fact, I learned this from a CM when buying tickets at the gate and she suggested I put my niece under my FL driver's license.

The spouse can get 6 tickets if the service member is not there and the spouse has to use one of the tickets. The person eligible to purchase them also has to use one.

Perfect! Thank you!!

And often buying AFS tickets for four days and adding 1-2 days is cheaper than just buying 6 day tickets through Disney! Worth doing the math anyway!

Why can't he buy all 3 grandchildren FLR tickets?

Of course he could, but then he would only be using 5 of the 6 AFS tickets. The OP would need to compare prices to see which was cheaper. I am pretty sure the AFS is the better deal.

It's about the same to do either ticket purchases. Disney ticket prices below include tax.

AFS ticket with PH = $177.00
Disney 2-day Base Ticket = $200.22
Total for 6 days = $377.22

Disney 6-day Base Ticket = $334.41
Disney 6-day PH Ticket = $398.31

1-day Base Ticket is about $100.00

AFS tickets are definitely cheaper.
