I have been doing hours and hours (and hours) of research for our upcoming trip to California. I was so happy to have had certain things checked off my list...one of which was an excellent deal I got on a rental car (intermediate SUV) at a great price. Now, I'm going back to find it to print out the confirmation...and I can't find it ANYWHERE. I can't even remember what car company it was in the mix of research I did. :( So now, I fear, I need to start all over again and I don't have as much time to research more!

Has anyone priced cars very recently for LAX and have recommendations for a good company at a good price? There are five of us, so we need something on the larger side for us and our luggage. I am so annoyed because I did all this already...researched pros and cons of each company, read reviews, etc, etc. Sigh.

Can anyone help? Good price, good company suggestions? We arrive on 8/12 if that matters. THANK YOU!!!

I've been doing the same thing for our December trip! Do you need the car for your whole visit, or is it just to get you to/from the airport? If you only need transport to anaheim, a shuttle might be more cost effective. If you need the car, I'm finding budget, thrifty, and alamo (if you get their hot deal) tend to have the cheapest. There is one more - Advantage - but I've heard nothing but bad reviews.

If you are considering a shuttle, we found a great deal with Disneyland Express Shuttle. We got discount vouchers through Getaway Today.

Hope that helps!

look the history of your computer for the approximate time you were on the website, you should found it there.

We just got back Saturday and used fox rent a car...had a full size suv which was a 7 seat explorer .. Was $577 for sat to sat rental.
Went through rentalcars.com...was cheapest I had found...my FIL used them as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I went back in my history and found that I DID search (extensively!) in May...at least I'm not going crazy! However, I can't seem to find one specific thing that shows it was actually reserved. So I'd have to guess that my "great deal" is non-existant!! That was after scouring board after board of suggestions. Ugh!

Anyway, I realized that we could probably just take a shuttle to Disney from the airport (car service, really) and then get our rental car on the 4th day into our trip. That will make the rental cheaper and will save us money in parking, when we won't need the car those days.

So, I heard there's an Alamo car place in DTD. Has anyone used them? That would be our easiest bet for now.

Any more suggestions are welcome...and thanks for the help so far!

I have not used the Alamo in DtD, but they are a reputable, known rental car company. They would not survive in DtD long if they were disappointing people. And it would be very convenient. I would also inquire about a AAA rate. I know you can reserve with Alamo online.

Breathe... it's just a rental car reservation. It's all okay. :goodvibes

Haha! I have to giggle at your advice to breathe. :) I guess that put it in perspective for me! I rented from Alamo at DTD for the remainder of our trip. Thanks for the help everyone!

Besides the rate consider ease of pickup. Some can take forever for paperwork and getting car ready. Have waited an hour at times. I reasonably find enterprise great at service and turn time, hertz a good second. Have used thrifty, fox and budget at airports in so cal and have been less than pleased at service.

We rented from Alamo at DTD last week and it was easy and quick. It took 5 minutes tops. We didn't go out to the car and do a walk around or anything. It's just a small office with one guy working in it. We rented the car the night before we were checking out and left it in their lot overnight so we didn't have to pay the $15 hotel parking fee. The next morning when we checked out, we were able to take our bags right to the car instead of leaving them with bell services, and then headed out to the parks for the day.

We dropped it of at LAX and that was quick as well. We got on the bus quickly to head back to the airport but it does take quite a while to make it through all the terminals since the bus stops at each one to drop people off and pick others up.

Are you a Costco member? I got a decent rate thru them starting on 8/14 for two weeks. Pick up at LAX, return in Oakland. Total was around $680 for a small SUV.

Perfect. My work here is done. :goodvibes

Sometimes it can be all too easy to get stuck spinning in the details and forget what really matters. Glad I could help you check one more thing off your list. :flower3:

I second the Costco suggestion. I believe Alamo is 30% off the going rate. If your hotel has free parking I would price the rental from LAX and DTD. It is sometimes actually cheaper to rent for the week vs. 4 days. Just a thought. Also, airport rentals can be cheaper as well depending on the dates.
