ARGGGHHHH!!!!! School vent!

see I like that, choices.

I asked the teachers for a weekly syllabus last year, guess what thee response was?

Oh we don't know what we are assigning that far in advance. HUH?????? :confused3

They don't set their school week into a plan?? Hello, our teachers have weekly mtgs to make sure all the teachers are on the same page.. While they may all work at a different pace in their classrooms they have to all meet a certain set of criteria.. (boy I wish I could think of the name of it).. Anyway, we even had to do them in college when I went to school.. oh, LESSON PLANS!

As for the librarian... WHAT? ARE THEY FRICKIN' KIDDIN' ME??? HELLO, ISN'T THIS HOW ARE KIDS ARE SUPPOSE TO LEARN AND HAVE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE IN THE CLASSROOM AND WORK ON THEIR PROJECTS IN SCHOOL..

Sunshine, I'd be on the next moving van out of there!!!! That is just nuts.. talk about kids being left behind.. :( There are lots of houses around here!!!!

What are they doing at school???

we only have 1 teacher for each grade except for 3rd, we have a teacher who is floating with that class until 6th. the 6,7,and 8th graders switch between 6 classes, 2 of which are with the Wicked Witch.

I guess parents complained about library because they are looking for a new librarian/aide/lunch lady. But if computer class is in there how are you supposed to have library?

I'm tryin'!!!! We are trying to decide if we should stay in CT, move to the Carolinas or South Georgia, or get out of the USA all together.

I just can't grasp how they are going into each school day not prepared.. :(

South GA would be good.. that would enable me to get to WDW more often...because I just know you'll need to see me once a year, right???

do you like Savannah??? ;) But if I move to Belgium, Ireland, or England you'll have to come see me there too. Then we can jet over to DLP!

Wow, that is mind boggling. Indiana isn't the best at education, but I sure feel better about it now! We had open house and while there is only 1 kindergarten teacher, there are 3 1st grade teachers and they all had the same lesson plans that they worked on together, to ensure each kid in 1st grade gets the same education. They had a notebook to pass out with the plan for the whole school year. They also said our school never gives homework on Friday's as weekends are family time. And about 20 mins every few days. In Kindergarten we get homework on Mondays and it's due on Fridays. We talk and discuss it, he has to find things that start with certain letters, so we discuss it awhile, but once he has his plan it only takes a few minutes.

Don't have kids yet so I can't provide any anecdotes, but I can tell you that Savannah is GORGEOUS! My grandmother lives down there.

Yes, I like Savannah!!!! :)

As for the others... I'll have to be on meds that knock me out for the flight...so you'll have to be at the airport to pick me up!!!!:goodvibes

Buffy I know the feeling I'm going through it right now and I like you thinkg about it being a full time job. If you or any one else is interested in my rant it's on cricut.com my user name is myboysmom and it't in the chat. I'm to computer illiterate to link it.
Homework has gotten out of hand. They are children who deserve sometime off to be children.
good luck and I know you'll stand strong

Buffy I am right there with you. We are dealing with 5 to 6 hours nightly for my 6th grader. Nightly reading hasn't happened yet this year. I did meet with her teachers and Math told her to do every other problem, and the others said if she needs more time, just let them know. The only problem with that is the more time we request, the farther behind we get!

some schools here are ok, it's just the admin has issues at our school (like hiding in his office LOL) He is clueless as to how to run a small town school, he's from New Haven.
I just want a syllabus, I need an idea of what my kids need to do and when it's due. I don't want to play guessing games, I can't read their minds (shocking, I know!), and they can't filter info through the kids. That's what e-mail is for!

DH loves it there!

It is a full time job. We work 40 hours a week, get 30 minutes for lunch and a 15 minute break, the kids don't even get that and they work 35 hours a week. Heck they should be getting benefits and 401K! LOL

I'll find your thread and link it.

thank for finding it and liking it.

It's really honestly pitiful what they put the parents through ontop of what they are doing to the kids. Levi's teacher told him if he took band all the class work he missed would be made up for as homework out of the 2 classes which is about 36 kids I think there might be 8 that aren't in band!!!!:scared1: does this woman think I'm stupid. that is just the tip of the iceberg for us. I'm in the process of looking for an educational advocate. After that it will be a lawyer.

I hate IEP's!!!! We have an active one on DS6 because of his speech, it's useless. We are a month into school and he has yet to see the speech teacher. I got papers from the old teacher and we work on it at home.

And at least you get to talk to your school Psychologist, I have a no contact order against ours on behalf of the kids. :rolleyes1 :scared1: She crossed the wrong person, let me tell you. The school is afraid we will sue the pants off them but I refuse to hurt the other kids by taking money away from the school. I won't punish the kids for the stupid actions of the admin. I love love love 90% of the teachers there, but their boss is a twit.

Both of my kids are on IEP's and I have definitely learned how to work the system. And just today I spoke with the 6 grade counselor and told him to not work with my DD.

DS 13 has an IEP too. Love working the system. We get to pick all his teachers every year :worship: Never have to worry about getting a teacher that won't communicate or work with me. I have also been able to tell school that he is highly allergic to dust and needs to be in classrooms with ventilation. Our middle is old, heating system old. It sucks and his asthma is worse than it was in elementary (newer school). They have worked with me well and I appreciate it. Next year in high school I may not be so lucky, but the principal knows who I am so I hope it helps since I haven't made a pest out of myself cause DD17 hasn't had any problems :thumbsup2

Sue you should still be able to hand pick at least some teachers in HS, the IEP follows through college I believe.
As for the allergies, can you request seats on the window side of the room?

This is actually MY pschy that I hired and pay for. I hate the school one she's a dope. The principal is a jack a$$ and I was thinking I liked the sp ed teacher now I'm wondering. I'm to the point of sueing them. Unfortunetly my dad is on his way west and he alone would scare the pants off of them. He will however be home for parent teacher confrence which will be turned into and iep meeting. I'm learning as you can all see.
Buffy speach is actually going well for him all his special services out of the classroom are fine it's the actaul teacher. and it's that way in most of the school. They are causing a problem and not following a legal document. I have a whole lot of lawyer friends that would just love to take on th school system.

My kids are in 4 and 2. Not too much homework here. The general reading everyday and maybe two worksheets. My dd9 just got into the gifted and talented program. Now that is a different story. She has had a lot for that. I told her that if it got to be too much that she would be taken out of it. Tonight is back to school night and I will hear more about the program and from her regular teacher. Wish me luck

Buffy I feel your pain. I felt it first hand when I was in school with reading. I am just glad that my kids are into reading. I was not and faked all my projects.
Cindy

Ok, that's it- everyone pack your bags and come to Texas (specifically my neighborhood)!!! I know our school system has its problems, but DD's little school is great! So come on- all y'all!!! Yes, I know it's hot, but we don't get any of that white stuff and we're super friendly!:hug::hug::hug::hug:

Another with IEP experience. Let me assure you, it's the squeaky wheel that gets the most grease, which is wrong, wrong, wrong. It should be if your child needs services, then he/she should get it.

I realize our circumstance is very unusual, thank goodness I love my daughter's school; her teacher, her case manager, her behavior analyst, her speech teacher, the director. Otherwise I would have had to hire an attorney long ago.

BAMB, call a PPT, ask why it is Sept 25th and DS has not had speech as of yet for this year. That is unacceptable. Need a good lawyer, let me know.
