Are your teenagers ever NOT so thrilled to go to Disney?

I have DGDalmost11 and DGS8. DGD could go to Disney several times a year. DGS likes it, but doesn't like to be without his mom or dad, depending on who he is without at the moment.

When DGD was 8, she was saying she would *always* want to go to Disney, so we made a pact and signed an Eggspectation napkin document, witnessed by DD. Said document states that DGD will go to Disney with Grammie when she is 16. (I had been saying when she is 16 she may not want to be with Grammie......)

5 more years......time will tell. So far she is very much a Disney girl - no hesitation on her part at all to want to go.

As for friends, I won't offer to take a friend. I just don't want that kind of responsibility - to take a child that I don't know anything about. If she has to have a friend with her to want to go on a trip, then there is no trip. Of course, much different for me being the Grammie rather than the Mom. I can go on vacation easily without her!

It's getting a bit distant, but I remember what it's like to be like that. When I was that age nothing was more important than friends etc. My parents could have taken me on vacation anywhere and i'd still have felt that I was missing out on something great going on at home.

It's a phase, they will grow out of it, but while they are in it it's not an argument you can win. I'd suggest if they have friends or family they can stay with, with good supervision, let them. I doubt it will take them too many years to want to go with you, and they will probably appreciate it all the more.

Cute, remember the fun we had last August! I hope DGD continues to love Disney, and that you continue to have special times. Weren't you Grand Marshalls in a parade?

We'll be begining our WDW trips with DGC this summer, same time, VWL!!

Bobbi :thumbsup2

we have taken grandkids age 15 and 14 twice now to disney I was making a comment at a family gathering that it was probably the 15 year olds last year for wanting to go to disney with grandma and papa and she turned on me and said excuse me I will be going to disney anytime you go, I will never not want to go and I said well your friends and boys will be more important then us or disney and she said no way I have told them all " I will be doing disney 2 weeks a year, handle it. her brother laughted and said wow I thought you knew her better then to think she would give up going to disney with you guys, you spoil her. I only wish we had purchased years ago we have missed so much by holding off till last year to join

That is so sweet. I remember also when I was a child loving the time and trips I had with my grandparents. They were the best. THere is just something special about the bond a grandchild and grandparent has.

I have a 13, 15 and 19 yo. I was REALLY suprised when my 19 ds said he wanted to come with us this year. Though he's not "thrilled" anymore, he does have a nice time. He sometimes goes off on his own and we let him go back to the hotel any time he feels like it. Also, he likes to visit IOA once during the week for the thrill rides. My 2 dd's still LOVE going ! My 13 yo dd just asked me the other morning ,"how many more days until we leave ?!". My 16 yo dd is probably the biggest disney nut of the three kids......both my girls still sit and watch disney movies at least once a week.

So far mine are still happy about going. They are 16, 13, 11. But I bet there will be a time when they won't be as happy. I am counting the days... To those who have unhappy teens....Sometimes I think that teens aren't happy unless they are complaining. I think it is like the terrible twos all over. My parents took me on their 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii when i was 15. (We had done nothing else but camp my whole life.)And guess what? I complained! But deep down I had fun. I think it is just a phase. I always say you are never too old for Disney. (at some point you may be too cool. :smooth: )

This is what I'm hoping DGD will be saying!!!!

I have not read all the posts but my oldest DD (15 in a few weeks) has been taking a friend for the last few years. My other DD's are close enough (10,8) in age that they still enjoy each others company. We are leaving in one month and DD has yet to decide on who she is going to have come down. I have told her she needs to decide by today as the flights are going up and up and she will end up losing out on bringing a firend!!! She loves to procrastinate and I usually end up saving her but not this time.

It does make it easier if she has a friend. She does not mope around and complain!! Which she does when she does not take a friend.

It is just easier for all of us!!! WE enjoy the trip much more.

Gotta love Teen girls!!!
