Could you tell me (state only is fine) where you live?

I've always been curious about this because in upstate NY the kids don't start back until after Labor Day.. :)

We live in Brevard Co, FL--the students start Monday, Aug 10th. (We homeschool, so we will start Aug 30th though doing some odds and ends already.)

The state has a law that you can't start earlier than 2 weeks before labor day (something like that.) But if you live in a "good" district you can get an exemption.:confused3 (Seems to me that bad districts would need more time before the FCAT--but okay!) So our county is the only one in Central Florida starting Monday.:confused3

We'll be at a park playing in the fountains (like they have at DTD) with fellow homeschoolers for our annual Not Back to School get together.

Traditional calendar schools in NC (a large majority of the public schools in the state) start on the 25th of August, but there are many year-round magnet schools (or whole county school systems on the year-round schedule) that have already started. DD has a good friend that goes to a year-round charter school, and their first day of school was 7/29.

we had locker day (take supplies, meet the teacher) today, and my daughter (6th grade) starts school monday, august 10th. we live in NE alabama.

Central Kentucky -- depending on the school district, school started Wednesday (8/5) or Thursday (8/6)

We were a little early, many of the schools in the state start next week.

PS. Fall break is in 8 weeks. :cool1:

Can I ask those who are in session already when you get out? We dont go back for another 2+wks and we'll get out end of May..

Well I'll bet that's something no one up here in the northeast ever heard of - "Fall Break".. :goodvibes How long does it last?

we used to be out 2 full weeks, but now ours is Thursday-Friday, followed by a full week in October. another district in the area is out the same full week and Columbus day on Monday.

We live in Lexington, (central) Kentucky. Our first day back is Wednesday, August 12. Too soon!

I just found out I'm going to be in the Highly Structured I class this year. That's new for me (usually I work with autistic kids), so it will be interesting.

Well--the county calendar is here if you'd like to compare:

The last day is May 21st

Students are off for winter (listed as 3 separate but consecutive vacation periods): from Dec 21-January 4 (last day of school is Fri Dec 18--so they are off for over 2 weeks).

They get a week for spring break.

And there are a handful of teacher work days and 3 federal holidays.

We started Wednesday (August 5th) and we get out June 4th. BUT - we get a two week fall break in October, two weeks at Christmas, and a two week spring break in March. We are in Colorado.

I WISH we were going back soon! I know it's the same vacation in the long run but I hate going back after Labor Day (so Sept 8 this year) and not getting out till June 19 or so. I would rather go back mid August and get out in late May/early June. By the time Memorial Day hits, we are DONE with school mentally.

Really? Where in central Kentucky are you? I didn't know other districts around here started before us.

I would have killed for this schedule as a kid--that's a nice schedule! Do you like it?

I wish we'd switch to that calendar.

I would love the fall break as a parent because it really sucks trying to go to Disneyworld when you ONLY have spring break week, Christmas break (usually Dec 20 to Jan 3 or so), and summer break and that's IT for true vacations. A fall break would be lovely!!! We have two days off for Thanksgiving, 2 days off in early November for parent/teacher conferences..but no other vacation at all.

We are in GA. My DD started July 31. They get 1 week in Oct. 1 week over Thanksgiving, 2 weeks over Christmas, 1 week in Feb. 1 week in April and are out May 28th. Plus they get a day here and there also. So they still get 2 full months off in the summer and it seems like they are out of school more than they are in .

We start back next Thursday, and don't get a fall break, just about 2 weeks at Christmas and a week at spring break. We are supposed to get out I think 5/21, but since we'll likely have some snow days it will more likely be the 25th or 26th, something like that. I live in IA

We're in Kansas and the kids start August 17th. They get out of school on the 3rd week of May, unless there are snow days.
