Are your kids back in school now? And if so..

Usually its after Labor Day but this year its the end of Aug (not sure of exact date).

I am 5 miles below Pocono Raceway (PA)

Really? Where in central Kentucky are you? I didn't know other districts around here started before us.

My kids go to Elizabethtown Independent, but we live in Hardin County. Nelson, Hart, Grayson, Meade, Breckinridge, Washington, Taylor, and Larue Counties also started this week.

The nearest school district to us that did not start this week is Bullitt County, which appears to be following a similar schedule to the Jefferson County schools.

I wish we'd switch to that calendar.

Hardin County switched their school calendar about 10 years ago (most districts around us followed suit pretty soon after that) -- we used to do the 2 weeks in the fall & spring, and 3 weeks at Christmas. Over the years, there have been some adjustments made .. specifically, dropping back to a week + a day or two for the spring & fall breaks and cutting back to 2 weeks (more or less) at Christmas. That puts us getting out before Memorial day, barring ice storms, hurricanes, basketball tournaments, etc. :rotfl:

Also in GA, we started back yesterday. We're getting a three day weekend in October, 9 days at Thanksgiving (2 weekends and a full week), about 16 days at Christmas, a 5 day weekend in February, assorted planning/weather days and the full week for spring break. Our last day is Wednesday May 26

We are in GA. My DD started July 31. They get 1 week in Oct. 1 week over Thanksgiving, 2 weeks over Christmas, 1 week in Feb. 1 week in April and are out May 28th. Plus they get a day here and there also. So they still get 2 full months off in the summer and it seems like they are out of school more than they are in .

there was talk here about taking the whole week of Thanksgiving off .. they're already out W-Th-F, so it would add 2 days off to the week. nothing ever came of it, though. I think I'd like it!

Indiana, and monday is the start of school.

Colorado here (Boulder Valley School District)

1st day is either the 18th (6th & 9th), the 19th (rest of middle school and high school) or the 20th (elementary)

Last day = May 27th

Week off for Thanksgiving, 2 1/2 weeks off over Christmas (12/18 - 1/6), 1 1/2 weeks off spring break (3/22 - 3/31) and a minimum of 1 extra three day weekend per month for teacher work days. October is the only exception. Our poor kids (sarcasm intended) will have to go a whole month without a break.

And 8 of the schools in the district were just ranked in the top of the state. Lots of time off, but they get lots done during that time :goodvibes

I grew up going back to school after Labor Day, to so it's a shock to my system to send my son back to school the first week in AUGUST!! :scared1:

On the other hand they get out before Memorial day...

SW GA here. The county next to us started August 5th. Our county starts on August 14th. We will finish the end of May.

We usually get 2-3 days off in October for Fall break but we don't have that this year.

We get a whole week off at Thanksgiving however if he have shut down days due to any severe hurricanes then Mon & Tues would be make-up days.

We get 2 weeks or so at Christmas. A week at Spring break.

Also MLK day off as well as a couple of days in February.

I swear girl, we're starting earlier every year! And don't get me started on the traffic issue!

OT, but have you heard about our county wide "no idling in a school zone" ordinence? They can bite me, Thanks to their crappy traffic flow design, I have to sit for about 15 minutes minimum at each school. It's 97 degrees outside, yeah, I'm gonna turn off my car and have sweat dripping off my face!

Our first day with kids was today. (I'm BEAT by the way! :rotfl:) We get out at the very end of May. We have a fairly long Christmas break, an entire week off at Thanksgiving, a full week off in FEBRAUARY (?????????), and spring break at the first of April.

Forgot to add that we are in Georgia-just south of Atlanta. Most of the schools in our state start in the next two weeks and finish at the end of May.

We started Wednesday (August 5th) and we get out June 4th. BUT - we get a two week fall break in October, two weeks at Christmas, and a two week spring break in March. We are in Colorado.

That's an awesome schedule! I would have loved that!

South GA here. We started July 31. We get Labor Day off, a full week in October, a full week for Thanksgiving, two weeks for Christmas, a full week in April, get out of school May 21. There's also a couple of days out in Jan., Feb., and March.

Can I ask those who are in session already when you get out? We dont go back for another 2+wks and we'll get out end of May..

We started back this past Monday.... We are usually out the week prior to, or of Memorial Day...
We get a week off in October, a few days in Nov... 2 weeks in Dec.
1 week in February
1 week in April for Spring Break...

I like it this way... but I do agree, I hate starting so early.
